Episode 51
Episode 51
Kenyan watched everything unfold—the sight of Lindsey plummeting off the cliff.
Of all times, it had to rain like a deluge.
Below that cliff was a raging current. Finding her body would be nearly impossible.
Kenyan felt dizzy, as if the world was spinning. He couldn’t believe it.
Lindsey had thrown herself off the cliff. A strange noise seemed to echo in his mind. He tried to deny it, but what had just happened before his eyes was real.
What were the chances of someone surviving after falling from a cliff, especially someone without transcendent powers?
Particularly on a day like today, with such terrible weather…
Her body would likely never be found. Kenyan moved to jump after her.
But Bianca and Azhet, standing beside him, stopped him.
“Argh!”
Bianca grabbed onto his right arm. When she couldn’t hold him back alone, Azhet also joined in, trying to restrain him.
“Kenyan, snap out of it! If you go down now, it’ll be a pointless death. Wait for the mages to arrive!”
Kenyan’s scream tore through the air.
Even with both Azhet and Bianca holding him, it was nearly impossible to subdue his frantic movements.
“It’s too late! Lindsey Kesion is dead.”
Azhet’s face had gone as pale as a sheet as he spoke those words.
Kenyan, seeing Azhet’s expression, grabbed his arm.
“Let go of me.”
“Get a grip. She’s dead.”
“She’s not dead.”
“What?”
“She wouldn’t die that easily. That woman…”
Kenyan muttered to himself, almost in a daze.
There was no way Lindsey would die so easily. The woman who had fiercely fought for life, glaring at him with that burning will to survive, wouldn’t give up and end her life.
It couldn’t be.
That’s what he desperately told himself.
But.
‘Is that really true?’
Could anyone survive a fall from such a height? Logically, it was impossible.
Kenyan knew how far-fetched his words were.
But he couldn’t accept it.
He couldn’t accept that Lindsey was dead.
That she had finally left him forever.
Kenyan felt a deep despair tightening around his throat.
⋆★⋆
She had almost died.
Lindsey gasped for breath.
If not for the magical item Bianca had prepared for her in advance, she would have drowned. Or worse.
Without the magic that allowed her to float, her head would have smashed on impact, and death would have been inevitable.
It wasn’t a situation an unprepared noble lady could have survived.
‘They must think I’m dead.’
The family registry was an ancient magical artifact.
Lindsey had to fool the registry. Magic, after all, is shaped by human will.
And so…
‘A dead person is no longer bound by the registry.’
Most people would now believe she was dead. In that case, the registry would lose its hold over her.
At least for as long as people believed she was gone.
‘During that time, I’ll figure out how to erase my name from it.’
Lindsey had been waiting for the right moment to fake her death in front of many witnesses. Today had finally been that day.
‘Luke is safe with Bianca, so I have nothing to worry about.’
She and Bianca had been planning this for a very long time.
Lindsey ran.
There might not be many people who would jump off a cliff, but there was always a risk of accidents. She needed to prevent any further disasters.
The thought of finally escaping the Kesion family filled her with a surge of excitement.
She could even find a way to return to Korea.
‘No, that’s not important. I just need to find out what happened to him first.’
Lindsey had to know what would happen if the dimensional shift failed.
Once she left this cave, her plan was to head to the Asen Empire. It was a place filled with mysterious sorcery, and there she could find a clue about dimensional travel or learn what had happened to Baek Ji-hyuk.
Even if she couldn’t, just leaving the suffocating Kesion Marquisate would be enough for now.
Lindsey was supposed to meet Bianca at the end of the cave. But as she ran, her steps suddenly halted. A familiar figure stood before her.
Someone who shouldn’t be here.
Her eyes widened in shock.
“Mikhail?”
It was Mikhail. Lindsey couldn’t comprehend how he had found this place.
Even she wouldn’t have been able to locate it without Bianca’s help. Moreover, Mikhail had claimed he would miss the hunting competition because of a mission.
Lindsey’s body tensed, a wave of anxiety washing over her. What if Mikhail didn’t let her go?
She didn’t trust anyone, aside from Bianca. The transcendents surrounding her were all too willing to use any means to trap her.
Raysis and Kenyan were living examples of that.
“Are you leaving? Where do you plan to go?”
“I can’t tell you. Do you plan to stop me?”
Lindsey forced herself to stay calm. She doubted Mikhail would prevent her from leaving. For reasons she couldn’t fully understand, he had always been oddly supportive.
Whenever she needed help, he had always appeared.
“How did you find this place?” she asked.
“I have a message for you.”
Mikhail’s face remained expressionless as he spoke.
“Go to Duke Riken in the Asen Empire. She will help you.”
“Duke Riken of the Asen Empire?”
“If you go there, you will also learn about your mother.”
Lindsey tilted her head.
‘I was already planning to go to the Asen Empire, but…’
There were three great empires on the continent: the Rohan Empire in the west, where Lindsey lived, the Asen Empire in the north, and the Eastern Empire in the east.
Lindsey had been planning to head to the Asen Empire.
Duke Riken.
It was a familiar name. Lindsey didn’t know any Asen nobility personally, but she had often overheard Crain cursing her.
With a look of disgust, he had once said, “All the nobles in the Asen Empire are insufferable, but the worst of them is Duke Riken, that woman.”
“So arrogant and conceited!”
Why would someone like that help her? It seemed Duke Riken had a deep enmity with Crain for reasons unknown to Lindsey.
She had seen Crain’s inferiority complex. Though she didn’t know the specifics, Crain clearly hated Duke Riken.
So why would Duke Riken have any reason to be kind to her, Crain’s daughter?
‘And what does he mean by my mother?’
Lindsey hadn’t thought about her mother in a long time. She was the woman who had abandoned her.
Besides, she was a commoner, so there had never been any way to track her down. Lindsey hadn’t cared to search for her, nor did she want to dwell on her existence.
She had lived her life trying to forget that her mother had ever existed.
And yet…
Mikhail’s deep, unreadable eyes were fixed on Lindsey.
Raysis and Kenyan had always been easy to read, but Mikhail was impossible to decipher.
“You’ll understand once you meet her.”
“…”
“And I hope you never have to come back.”
Lindsey hesitated for a moment as she looked at Mikhail. She knew that if she left now, she wouldn’t see him again for a long time.
‘What about his healing?’
Most transcendents wouldn’t have needed to worry about healing, but Mikhail wasn’t an ordinary transcendent.
Without Lindsey’s healing, he would undoubtedly suffer.
Had he read her thoughts?
Mikhail gently pushed her away by her shoulders.
“Live the life you want.”
After a brief hesitation, Lindsey nodded resolutely.
She sprinted away, toward her freedom.

Raysis was in shock.
He was standing at a funeral.
And the deceased was none other than Lindsey Kesion, his sister.
‘Lindsey’s dead? She’s really in that coffin?’
He couldn’t grasp the reality of the situation. Lindsey had fallen from the cliff. It had happened so fast, without any time to stop it.
Before his eyes, just like that…
She had disappeared.
His fists trembled.
Everyone was talking about her death.
The marquis’s daughter, who had taken her own life during the hunting competition, was the center of scandal.
“It’s such a tragedy. But who’s to blame for this?”
“I heard the imperial knights killed those who were chasing Lady Lindsey.”
Raysis knew who was to blame. His father, Crain.
Crain had killed Lindsey.
Raysis also knew that Crain hadn’t intended for her to die.
There had been a secret deal between Crain and Prince Flute.
‘A deal to hand Lindsey over to him.’
He should have stopped it. He should have made sure Lindsey didn’t attend the hunting competition.
His arrogance had killed her.
Her body had been found at the base of the cliff. The damage was so severe that it was barely recognizable.
“Ah…”
He had thought there was time. He had foolishly believed there would be time to earn Lindsey’s forgiveness.
He hadn’t even considered how she must have felt. The harsh words he had once spoken to her echoed in his mind.
“You’re a liar. It was my mistake to ever trust you.”
“I really thought of you as my sister… but you were just using me.”
Those were the sharp words he had thrown at her to hurt her.
Now those words had come back to haunt him. He shouldn’t have said them.
At the very least, he should have done his best to find out if she had truly been guilty. Even if she had been…
He shouldn’t have condemned her so harshly.
He had thought there was time.
He had believed he would eventually be forgiven. Only now did he realize how arrogant that belief had been.
