Episode 50
Episode 50
So that’s why Prince Flute wanted Lindsey. And Crain would have gladly complied with the prince’s demands.
‘Because he never truly received my healing.’
Maybe it was because of the elaborate dress she wore.
The rain-soaked gown weighed her down, making her feel even heavier.
Unable to bear the sight, Raysis took off his outer coat, intending to shield her from the pounding rain.
Lindsey harshly shoved his hand away.
“You’re no different from Crain Kesion.”
The fact that Raysis was acting kind now disgusted Lindsey.
“You’re just the same! Why are you acting like this now? It’s revolting.”
“Lindsey, I—”
“I can see right through you. It makes me sick.”
“I didn’t know.”
“Hypocrite.”
“I just want you to be happy. Hatred only leaves you with pain.”
Happy? Happy?
Lindsey let out a bitter laugh.
“You knew, didn’t you? About what Prince Flute is planning and that the marquis is sending me to him.”
“That will never happen.”
“…”
“I won’t allow it. As long as you stay under my protection, you’ll be safe. Not even my father will dare touch you.”
Raysis’s words seemed filled with anger.
His eyes blazed with a molten fury, and Lindsey knew he was telling the truth.
With Raysis’s protection, she could survive in the Kesion household.
‘But then what?’
Even Raysis’s furious face irritated her.
“Oh, so you’re going to save me now?”
Lindsey glared at him, her voice dripping with disdain.
“Just leave me alone. When the time comes, I’ll leave on my own.”
“Leave…? Leave where?”
Raysis’s face twisted. For the first time, Lindsey felt a twisted sense of satisfaction at his expression.
“Where? You think that’s possible?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
“You know the family’s registry. As long as your name is on it, you won’t be able to leave.”
That wretched registry. It was the biggest reason she hadn’t escaped yet.
Raysis reminded her once again, as if trying to hammer it into her mind.
“You can’t leave, Lindsey.”
Ignoring him, Lindsey dashed forward.
*Clang!*
The sound of swords echoed through the air. Raysis’s face turned pale.
Lindsey was right.
He had known about Crain’s plan.
The reason he had appeared here while the other transcendents went off hunting was to protect Lindsey.
Crain would make his move today. Without him by her side, Lindsey would be in danger.
But.
He couldn’t stop her.
“If you hold me back now, I’ll hate you forever.”
“…”
“I’ll never forgive you.”
“But, Lindsey, if you leave my side…”
“If you want my forgiveness, then let me go.”
Despite the sound of clashing swords surrounding them, Lindsey’s steps did not falter. She began to run.
She ran as if determined to leave him behind forever.
He should have stopped her. If he didn’t, Lindsey would undoubtedly end up in danger.
But Raysis stood frozen, unable to move.
⋆★⋆
Lindsey had known for a long time that this day would come.
Even before Bianca had warned her.
She knew Crain would one day use her and throw her away.
It was inevitable for someone born as Lindsey Kesion.
Because she was tainted blood.
Because she was something that had to be eradicated in the end.
‘I used to wish I wasn’t his daughter so many times…’
Lindsey let out a bitter smile. Unfortunately, she was indeed Crain’s daughter. Her face, which resembled his so much, was proof of that.
There was movement behind her.
“An ambush! Protect the prince!”
She heard the shouts of knights.
Lindsey quickened her pace.
The rustling of leaves and the footsteps of those chasing her filled the air.
‘If I slow down even a little, they’ll catch me.’
And if they caught her, her fate would be sealed. They would hand her over to Prince Flute.
She could end up brainwashed, living as a slave. After all, in this world, human rights were practically nonexistent.
Of course, Lindsey knew.
Raysis wouldn’t let her end up like that.
But what would that mean?
Begging for her life from Raysis or other transcendents was not the life she wanted.
She wanted to live a life she chose for herself. Staying in the Kesion family would mean living a puppet’s life.
‘Does he really think I’ll live like that?’
She could sense that Raysis was following her from behind. He wasn’t even trying to conceal his presence.
But Lindsey ignored him and kept running.
“There she is!”
The voices of those searching for her echoed through the forest.
‘My feet hurt.’
Although Lindsey had worn comfortable shoes in preparation for this, her body wasn’t used to such exertion. She had reached her limit.
Lindsey stopped running. In front of her was a cliff.
She looked down.
It was dark, a seemingly bottomless pit. The fall would undoubtedly be fatal.
Lindsey turned around.
Masked figures, the ones trying to capture her, were closing in.
Just as one of them reached out to grab her—
*Slash!*
A flash of light cut through the air, severing the arm of the masked man.
“Argh!”
Lindsey looked ahead. The one who had saved her was Kenyan.
Azhet, Kenyan, and several other transcendents stood behind him.
Bianca, too, was staring at Lindsey, her eyes wide in shock.
Kenyan, breathing heavily, appeared as though he had rushed here the moment the incident broke out.
“Lindsey Kesion, come here!”
He stretched out his hand toward her, his fingers trembling with desperation.
Lindsey just stood there, staring at him.
“I said come here!”
Lindsey took a step back.
“If you come closer, I’ll jump.”
Both the masked figures and Kenyan froze in place.
Lindsey sensed that Raysis, though unseen, was also nearby.
Kenyan’s eyes were trembling as he looked at her. He was truly scared.
Yet despite that, Kenyan didn’t believe Lindsey would actually jump.
He had seen her eyes before.
The fierce determination to survive, even at the brink of death.
Would Lindsey really die? And by her own hand?
It was an absurd thought.
So, he took a step forward.
“Don’t do anything foolish.”
“Something foolish?”
“Yeah, dying won’t change anything.”
Foolish, he said.
Lindsey thought of Baek Ji-hyuk.
‘Using a dimensional shift spell was certainly foolish.’
Others might laugh at such an act, calling it naive.
But Baek Ji-hyuk had used that spell to find her…
And died.
‘Yes, he died.’
If she took a step forward now, maybe she could meet him again.
The man who had been willing to risk everything for her. Kenyan’s face was growing paler by the second.
He realized that Lindsey was different now. There was a resolve in her expression.
She looked like a general marching into battle. The kind of resolve that meant she was capable of anything.
“What are you planning to do…?”
*Whoosh.*
The rain poured down harder, as if the sky itself had opened up.
Lindsey, looking at the faces of those staring at her in horror, finally spoke.
“It was horrible.”
Her voice was filled with resignation.
Lindsey reflected on her past.
She thought about her fate as Lindsey Kesion.
“Every day was hell. Eating trash, sleeping on cold, hard floors, wearing rags no better than what beggars wore on the street… None of that mattered.”
It was truly a life without meaning. Why was she even alive?
Everyone had told her to die, so why had she struggled so desperately to survive?
“What was horrible was that no one ever saw me for who I was. In every situation, I was just dirty blood.”
Kenyan’s face twisted in anguish as he listened to her calm words.
“I’m tired. I’m sick of seeing your faces. I’m exhausted.”
With that, Lindsey closed her eyes tightly.
Step by step, she moved toward the edge of the cliff.
“Stop! Stop right there!”
Kenyan shouted and began running toward her.
Lindsey smirked as she watched his panicked face.
‘What a monster. So fast.’
If she hesitated even for a moment, Kenyan would surely catch her.
‘This is it. I’m done seeing your face.’
Seeing how quickly Kenyan was closing in, Lindsey knew she couldn’t afford to hesitate. She threw herself off the cliff.
