How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

37. Lessons from Yosuga no Sora

“Sigh~”

Ling Ning sighed in exasperation as she reached into her pocket for her phone, hoping to use it as a flashlight and prevent another mishap. But tragedy struck again—her phone was gone.

“Did I drop it somewhere?”

“No way, right?”

She hadn’t had this phone for very long, and if she had lost it already, it would break her heart. Ling Ning rubbed her chin and thought back carefully. She remembered cleaning up, typing a bit, then putting her phone on the counter before going to change clothes…

“I remember now. I left it on the café counter.”

“Want me to go back with you to get it?”

“No, it’s fine. I’ll go alone. You go on ahead.” Now that she was almost home, the thought of running all the way back to the café brought a pang of sadness. There was no need for someone else to share in her misery.

Seeing how determined Ling Ning was, Ye Xuan didn’t insist. She simply watched as Ling Ning walked away before turning and heading home herself.

Returning to the café, Ling Ning thought to herself, “Surely, Chu Mengyao and Luo Xiaoning wouldn’t go out on a rainy night like this.” Just as she was about to call out, she noticed that the door wasn’t locked. That was careless—what if a thief sneaked in?

Shaking her head, Ling Ning pushed the door open and walked in. All the lights in the shop were off, except for a faint glow seeping through the door of the room labeled “Eternal Silence.” What was so urgent that they didn’t even bother to close the door properly?

Relying on her memory, Ling Ning fumbled her way to the counter and found her small phone. Luckily, it was still there. If she had left it on another table, it might have been a lost cause. With her phone in hand, she decided to let Chu Mengyao know about the unlocked door.

As she approached the room labeled “Eternal Silence,” she heard faint moaning. The sound was oddly familiar.

“Could those two be watching… something not-so-appropriate?” The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. Curiosity piqued, she tiptoed to the door and peeked through the crack…

What met her eyes was a pile of discarded clothes—skirts, underwear, even panties—scattered messily on the floor. And the source of the sound? Two naked girls. Who else could they be but Chu Mengyao and Luo Xiaoning? The moaning came from Chu Mengyao, who, surprisingly, despite her usually dominant demeanor, was actually the one on the receiving end.

Wait a second! This wasn’t the right thing to focus on. The shocking part was that these two were… a couple. No wonder she always sensed something fishy between them—it turned out there really was something going on! Strangely, Ling Ning found herself getting inexplicably excited.

Just as she leaned in for a closer look, her phone suddenly started ringing. The abrupt noise startled her so much that she turned and fled immediately. If they found out she had seen them, she’d be in deep trouble.

Ling Ning had barely stepped out the door when Chu Mengyao, wrapped in a bedsheet, emerged from the room. She had been careless today, forgetting to lock the door, and someone had intruded.

“What now?” Luo Xiaoning asked as she casually slipped on her skirt and joined Chu Mengyao.

“No worries,” Chu Mengyao said, eyeing the footprints on the floor with a thoughtful expression.

“Really?”

“Of course. Besides, weren’t we in the middle of something? This time, it’s my turn to be on top.” Chu Mengyao grinned wickedly at Luo Xiaoning.

“But… but it was my turn tonight! And we didn’t even close the door!”

“It’s fine. I refuse to believe two people would walk in on us in one night.”

“Okay, but… not out here!”

Ling Ning walked home in a daze. She couldn’t believe she had stumbled into a scene like that just to get her phone. Whether in her previous life or this one, it was her first time witnessing a real-life girl-on-girl situation. She took a deep breath, but the excitement bubbling inside her refused to subside. It was as if she had found a new direction for her life.

As her mind wandered, she suddenly stepped into a puddle again, soaking her other shoe. Now both of her shoes were equally wet. Feeling the cold, damp socks clinging to her feet, she felt like she was about to lose her mind.

When she finally got home, she found Ling Ye rubbing her stomach, looking at her with pitiful eyes. Ling Ning immediately realized that, with the rain this afternoon, Ling Ye must not have gone out for dinner.

“Alright, alright, Mom will make you some noodles.”

“Mom, you’re the best~” Ling Ye cheered, leaping up to give Ling Ning a kiss on the cheek.

Wiping the drool off her face in resignation, Ling Ning then noticed all her laundry hanging outside, soaked through. Ling Ye had forgotten to take them in, which meant both of her only two sets of pajamas were ruined.

“Ye Ye, why didn’t you bring the laundry in this afternoon?” Ling Ning asked.

“Ehehe~ I was sleeping and forgot! By the time I woke up, they were already soaked.” Ling Ye put on her best innocent face. In reality, she had been too engrossed in studying and forgot. Not that she would admit that. Besides, if Mom’s pajamas were wet, there was a good chance she’d get to see Mom in her nightgown, which meant more opportunities for… well, for some fun.

“Sigh~” Ling Ning sighed again. “In the future, be more careful. If it rains, make sure to bring the clothes in.”

“Got it~”

Shaking her head, Ling Ning walked into the kitchen to make noodles for Ling Ye. It looked like she’d be breaking out her rarely-used nightgown tonight, along with those long-buried high heels.

When Ye Xuan got home, she turned on the light and looked at the empty house. Suddenly, she missed the feeling of being at Ling Ning’s place last night. Even though it was small, it felt like home.

She tiredly collapsed onto the couch and then noticed something in her pocket. Pulling it out, she saw it was the USB drive she had picked up earlier. She had meant to throw it away, but had gotten distracted.

Staring at the USB drive, an inexplicable curiosity rose in her. What could be on it? After a brief internal struggle, she decided to find out. She headed to her room and booted up her computer.

She casually inserted the USB drive and opened it, finding only a folder labeled “Study Materials.” Frowning, Ye Xuan thought to herself, “Study materials labeled as ‘top secret’? Sounds suspicious.”

Inside the folder were twelve subfolders, each named after a zodiac sign. Ye Xuan randomly opened the “Virgo” folder, and suddenly a new world unfolded before her eyes. How many times had she opened this metaphorical door to a “new world” now? And why did it always feel so familiar? Just how many times would she need to open it to feel satisfied? It was…

Back in the kitchen, as she cooked noodles for Ling Ye, Ling Ning suddenly shivered, an unsettling premonition washing over her.
