chapter 03
The Steward in the Dungeon
Episode 3
Overjoyed with the fact that she was alive, Hee-Na made an effort to hug the woman.
“Whoa, whoa. Easy.”
She took a step back, and only then did Hee-Na realize her condition.
She was soaked to the skin from the swamp, covered in dirt from grazing, and covered in leaves, and she looked like a beggar.
It’s likely that his face was drenched in dung.
“The whole neighborhood was caught up in the dungeon gate. Hunters in the neighborhood are paging the emergency and rescuing the public.”
“Good. Did you clear the dungeon boss?”
It’s only an E-level dungeon since that time.
Ah, after all that hard work, it was only an E-level dungeon?
Maybe the reason I was able to survive with only a D-ranked skill was because the dungeon was low-ranked.
‘Ugh. I guess I’m lucky to be alive at this point.’
He-na stood up stiffly and followed behind the woman. It was quite a distance to the dungeon exit, and the woman made small talk.
“So, are you an Awakened?”
The question was so direct that Hee-Na blinked in surprise.
“Well, how did you know?”
“Judging from how quickly you were detected, I’d say you’re low ranked, but you were hiding your presence, which can only be done with the Awakening skill.”
Hee-Na nodded dumbly at the sharp point.
“Ah, I see.”
“I don’t see any Awakened on the missing persons list. Was it hiding your powers and pretending to be a normal person? You do realize that’s fine, right?”
The woman sounded like she was going to report Hee-Na if she left the dungeon right now. Hee-Na quickly excused herself.
“No, I awakened right before the dungeon fell!”
“Really?”
“Really! I woke up in the middle of the night and took…….”
“Oh…….,” the woman sobbed in desperation.
“That’s good, you could have gotten in trouble. What series did you wake up with?”
Despite her scary appearance, the woman was quite bubbly. She asked a lot of questions, even though they had just met.
Hee-Na replied with a sound like a rat crawling into a hole.
“He’s a …… guy.”
“What? What kind of guy?”
“Mr. ……, the housekeeper.”
Her face heated up at the thought of confessing to such a bizarre title.
The woman’s eyes widened in surprise at Hee-Na’s answer.
“Housekeeper? I’ve been a Hunter for a long time, but I’ve never heard of that class before!”
“It’s a hidden class. The stats are really low and the skill names are all weird, so I’m not sure what’s good about it…… but I’ve managed to survive thanks to the ‘Comfortable Bed’ and ‘Gathering Herbs’ skills.”
“Fuhaha. A cozy bed? Picking herbs? That’s the name of a skill? That’s a life-friendly name!”
Hee-na’s response was so funny that the woman paused, held her stomach, and laughed.
It was a little embarrassing, but Hee-na was glad she could at least give her a laugh in return for saving her life…….
As I stood there watching the woman laughing, I suddenly heard a man’s voice behind me.
“What are you doing here?”
Hee-na was surprised first by the sudden appearance of someone, and secondly by the identity of the person.
“Go, Hunter Kang Jin-hyun?”
The man nodded as if he was used to the stares from people like Hee-Na. It was a very brief and cheesy introduction.
“Well, he doesn’t need to introduce himself.
Hee-na was convinced of his bad luck.
This was a man she recognized from a hundred different countries.
His name was Kang Jin-hyun, and he was a hunter. The most powerful hunter in Korea!
His name was Kang Jin-hyun, and he was the most powerful Hunter in Korea.
But no one ever tackled him with such titles, because of his powerful martial arts and handsome face.
A handsome man could get away with anything, and his fists were stronger than the law.
Regardless, he approached the giggling woman with a businesslike air.
“Ms. Hunter. We’re not done rescuing the public, and it’s getting late, so what are you doing here?”
Hee-Na realized that the woman who had saved her life was named Woo Min-Ah.
“I’ll look it up after I get out of here.
She wanted to send a wreath to her guild to show her gratitude.
“Ah. There’s a freshly awakened Sun Chick Awakening here, take it……. I’ve been listening to you talk about it, and its abilities are interesting.”
The woman, Woo Min-ah, replied, her shoulders shaking with laughter.
Kang Jin-hyun frowned slightly, not liking her response.
Hee-na, who was only a D-class housekeeper, felt a chill run down her spine. The strength of an S-class Hunter, of which there were only a few in the world, was impressive.
“It’s dangerous to reveal your awakening information or stats to others.”
He advised Hee-Na, not to forget his words to Woo-Min-Ah.
“What kind of behavior is this for a rookie who doesn’t know what she’s doing? I don’t expect you to have the mindset of a high-level Hunter. You should have some basic manners.”
“You little inspiration, you talk like I’m going to suck out his marrow, you? I’m not that empty.”
Woo Min-ah grumbled. Hee-Na hesitated, then interjected, taking her side.
“I’m fine, I’m not low-ranked, and I’m not super powerful, I’m just weird.”
Woo Min-ah squinted one eye as if she were grateful for his defense.
Kang Jin-hyun let out a small sigh, not liking the look.
“Still, to be safe, it’s better to keep the awakening information hidden.”
“I understand, Hunter Kang Jin-hyun…….”
Hee-Na replied obediently.
I know that Kang Jin-hyun is two years older than Hee-na, so I don’t know why it feels so much more like being scolded by an adult than being scolded by her biological brother, who is four years older.
But Woo Min Ah was undeterred by his nagging, and she pouted excitedly.
“By the way, his awakening class is really fun, do you want to join? You’re not the kind of guy who goes around bragging about other people’s abilities.”
Kang Jin-hyun cut him off.
“No thanks, I don’t want to know about other people’s awakenings.”
He sounded so businesslike and unapologetic.
‘So cold.
In truth, Hee-na also didn’t want to reveal her abilities to such a terrifying person.
A D-ranked housekeeper in front of an S-ranked Hunter……. She felt like she would be laughed at.
“Chet, you’re so cold. Anyway, if you’re done talking, go away. I’m going to stop fooling around and do my job.”
Woo Min-ah flicked her hand like she was shooing away an insect as if she wasn’t afraid of Kang Jin-hyun.
“Aren’t we going to get into a fight?
It was a nerve-wracking moment for Hee-na.
But Kang Jin-hyun nodded his head unexpectedly neatly, then turned and disappeared.
“He’s a tightwad, isn’t he?”
As soon as Kang Jin-hyun disappeared, Woo Min-ah said afterward.
Hee-na couldn’t say anything in response and gave a tired laugh.
“Ha……. Haha.”
“Well, I shouldn’t have asked you that. I was a bit rude. Sorry.”
He shook his head, scratching at his cheeks, which were stained with the lye from his subsequent generous apology.
“No, that’s the least I can do for someone who saved my life, and besides, the Awakening class was a weird one, so I should have told someone, even if it wasn’t you, Hunter Wu Min.”
Umin’a marveled at the terse answer.
“Wow. You’re very eloquent.”
“What? Me?”
I don’t know when normal, socially aware speech became “pretty,” but it must have impressed Woo Min-ah.
“There’s not a single asshole around me who talks like you.”
“I’m sure you’ll get a lot of thank yous for saving my life…….”
“I’m usually in no condition to say thank you because I’m pissing and shitting myself. I’ve never met a kid as calm as you.”
“Ahhh…….”
Hee-na realized that she might have a lot of nerve.
Woo Min-ah patted Hee-na on the shoulder and pulled out a business card from her arm.
“I like you,” she said, “call me later. Let’s have a meal or something. If you have any questions about awakening, ask me.”
Hee-na stumbled over her words at the unexpected kindness.
“Huh? Thank you, you don’t have to do this.”
“It’s okay, I’m not a man of my word. Are you sure you want to get in touch later? I haven’t had much to laugh about lately, and it’s good to have a good laugh.”
He held out his business card once more, and Hee-na took it very carefully and tucked it away in her shabby pocket.
Woo Min-Ah looked down at it with a big smile and clapped her hands together.
“Well, enough small talk, let me take you to the gate, there are emergency workers outside, so you can get checked out and get disaster damage counseling.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Woo Min-ah scurried off through the jungle.
Hee-na ran after her, panting, afraid of losing her.
* * *
“Oh, how could you do this?”
Hee-Na fell to her knees in disbelief at the utter devastation around her.
After somehow surviving the monster inside the dungeon gate, reality caught up with her.
“Miss, is your leg hurt, do you need a stretcher?”
A passing paramedic grabbed her shoulder and asked.
She didn’t even notice his question and mumbled in a daze.
“My workplace……. My home……. How can both of them be gone at once?”
