Chapter 76: Gold III
(Drakken's POV)
"I want one too!" Dara exclaimed as I walked towards the cave, Maegelle behind me, "Please, My Lord, I'll do anything!"
I frowned, "You don't shut up, do you?" I said as I looked over at Maegelle, "And you've been dealing with her all day?"
Maegelle had her hands in front of her and she merely shrugged, "I do not mind." She said softly, "She is good company, despite what you think of her."
"Hm." I said as I looked at Dara, "If you say so. Where is your sister?"
"Daranne? What about her?" She is at the castle, "Why?"
"I have not interacted with her much...." I said, "Not like it matters to me."
I stopped right in front of the cave and felt a bit of pressure exude from the entrance. Within that split-second, I could hear Maegelle's heartbeat get faster. She felt the pressure and heard the loud rumbling that came from within the cave."
"What is this....?" She asked
"Relax." I said, "Nothing will happen to you. I just wanted to show you my creation, a glimpse of what I am capable of."
I looked at her, there was a bit of nervousness in her eyes. I don't blame her, almost everything I am capable of is foreign to her. The Lannister girl witnessed the birth of the Lindwyrm and despite being shocked by it, she was enthralled by it even more.
"Princess...." Dara said with a smile, "The golden beast is far more beautiful than what your family's dragon. I can guarantee you that."
I offered her my hand, "Come." I told Maegelle, "Do not be afraid."
She reluctantly took it and as Dara followed behind, we walked inside the cave. The moment we passed the entrance, I felt the tense heat that exuded from the walls. It was not something these girls could handle so I immediately casted a cooling spell on them.
I saw that the walls were steaming, gold bleeding from them as it poured into the ground, hardening the moment it comes in contact with the air. I felt the cave floor shake slightly as we continued to walk towards a slight golden shine was coming from.
"What is....?" Maegelle said as I held her hand, "Gold...?"
I nodded, "Yes." I said, "It is quite interesting, isn't it? Where I am from, there used to be a creature similar to your Family's dragons, with gold fused to its scales. For some reason, it was able to produce so much gold from its body that it was completely covered in it, becoming so heavy that it was unable to fly."
"What?" Dara said, "What do you mean where you are from?"
"Quiet." I told her as I stopped, seeing a massive mountain of gold in front of us, "The creature's wings became useless and they became forelimbs instead...not like it mattered. It was so strong that it could kill any strong person that tried to slay it. But what was very valued about it was not its strength, but the ability to produce a nearly unlimited amount of gold. And gold.....gold is valuable everywhere....in any world....with Gold, you can acquire almost anything.....Gold is a set currency, I would imagine....that creature could have been the source of a House's great wealth.....and well, here I have my own creature like it."
"Gold...." Maegelle said, "Is that why you wanted the Lannister's gold? To have something like this? You plan to have your own source of gold, nearly infinite.....to become wealthier than every House in the Realm."
I nodded, "You are smart." I said, "Sometimes War costs money and money is not something everyone, including myself, has at all times. With Gold, we can pretty much obtain a lot of resources that will supply anything an army requires. Hell, I could fund a War without even taking part in it myself."
Suddenly, the mountain of gold began to shatter and crumble, bright golden eyes opening through it and looking right at us.
The Lindwyrm was awake.
It uncoiled itself and slowly placed its forelimbs on the ground, shaking its head slowly as a bit of molten gold fell to the ground.
"Wha..." Maegelle's hand tightened on mine, "What is that....?"
"A Lindwyrm." I said with a smile, "Beautiful, isn't she?"
"She really is, Princess..." Dara said with a chuckle
Maegelle looked at the Lindwyrm as it let out a rumble, looking right at her, "I...." she said as the light of its scales reflected off her pretty purple eyes, "It is..."
I lifted her hand and softly kissed it, which surprised her, "You can name it." I told her, "My Maegelle....."
She was looking at me, "Name it? Why?"
"It needs a name....a being as valuable as her..." I said as I looked at her, "Go on, give her one. She will accept it, wouldn't you?"
I looked at the Lindwyrm, it was slowly blinking its eyes as it reached down to us, sniffing the air. Maegelle walked forward and slowly raised her free hand as I let go of her other one, reaching for the Lindwyrm's snout, touching it.
"Oh..." She said softly as the Lindwyrm closed its eyes and let out a slight rumble, "I do not know....It is....I do not know what to name her...."
"It shouldn't be too hard." Dara told her, "Just think of something....like your sister or something...."
"My sister...?" She said, "Well...in that case.....I name her.....Lyssa.....after my sister, Alyssa.....who I miss."
I crossed my arms and looked at the beast, "You hear that?" I said, "That is your name now; Lyssa."
Lyssa lowered her head more down and let out a rumble, a large amount of molten gold pouring straight from behind her right horn and landing on the ground in front of Maegelle.
She stepped back as she saw something form in front of her, steam emitting from the pool of molten gold in front of her.
"What is going on?" She said softly
I then saw as the gold formed itself into a large smooth egg, solid gold and very shiny.
"Hm." I said, "A gift, I suppose."
I walked over to the egg as Lyssa straightened up and let out a rumble. I picked it up, it was completely solid and quite dense.
"A golden egg???" Dara said, "That is amazing.....it could be worth an entire keep!"
"Perhaps..." I said as I looked at Maegelle, "You see now? How important this creature could be...?"
Magelle was looking at the egg, "That is....incredible...." She said, "And you created her?"
I nodded, "Indeed." I said, "I am a Dragon God after all...she is a draconic being..."
I glanced at Lyssa, the Lindwyrm began to retreat back to its spot in the cave. I could tell that the entire cave was beginning to be covered in golden veins, which were exuding an immense amount of molten gold. Within a few months, this entire cave would be filled with minable gold.
I would need to have her burrow itself a bit further into the earth and have it build an entire cavern system filled with gold.
That would be beneficial to the House.
"Let us go back." I said as I looked at Maegelle, "I have much to discuss with you, Maegelle."
"Your Mother has written."
