Hollywood:Starting out as an MV director

Chapter 170: Chapter 170: A Thank You Kiss

Taylor was very angry.

She felt like she had been sold, and it made her feel terrible.

Ethan didn't rush to explain. Instead, he bent down and picked up a few branches.

After Taylor stood in place for a while, feeling ignored, she couldn't help but stomp her feet and remind Ethan. Only then did he speak up, explaining, "Actually, this was just a test."

"What do you mean?" Taylor decided that no matter what reason Ethan gave, she wouldn't forgive him.

"I heard that there are some very famous country music producers in Nashville, so I contacted them, hoping to get one to be your producer. Right now, Angel's Declaration doesn't have a producer who suits you."

"Then I got in touch with Nathan Chapman. I heard he helped launch a number of country music stars, so I came to Nashville to have a chat with him."

"And then?" Taylor furrowed her brows.

"I mentioned you," Ethan pointed at her. "I told him that you're extremely talented and a great country music prodigy, but he wasn't quite convinced. He wanted to hear your music."

"That's one of the reasons I brought you to Nashville—to shock that old man and show him what real country music royalty looks like."

Taylor had to suppress a smile at Ethan's exaggerated description.

She deliberately put on a serious face. "What if I don't pass?"

"Don't pass? Then it just means his taste needs some improvement." Ethan snapped a branch and tossed it into the bucket. "If you do pass, I'll have him come to New York to produce your music. It's that simple."

Taylor fell silent, realizing that her earlier words might have been too impulsive.

Seeing Ethan's unchanging expression, she remained quiet for a while before asking, "Aren't you mad?"

"Mad?" Ethan smiled. "If you were talking to me like this at the company, I'd be mad. But right now, we're camping. This is normal life, Taylor. Our relationship isn't boss and artist, but friends."

"Yeah… You're right," Taylor smiled. "We're friends now, but I'm still sorry for getting angry earlier."

"I understand that feeling. It's like being kept in the dark, not knowing what's going to happen next." Ethan comforted her, then continued, "But it's in the past now, right?"

"Yes!"

"Good. Let's finish picking up the branches and head back."

"Mm."

In the evening, a campfire was set up between the five tents, with an iron plate placed on top, perfect for grilling meat.

"Zizz." Watching the large chunks of lamb sizzling on the plate, everyone could feel their mouths watering.

"Goodness, Ethan, what's this seasoning? It tastes so unique!" Austin, who couldn't resist, took a piece and was impressed by how tender and flavorful it was, with a distinct aroma.

"That's cumin." Ethan shrugged. "It's very common in the East, but you probably haven't had it before."

Cumin wasn't uncommon abroad, but Americans tended to prefer sauces and black pepper, so they weren't as interested in this spice.

After Ethan finished grilling the lamb, and everyone got used to the unusual taste, they ate heartily.

Later, after everyone had enjoyed grilling and chatting, Ethan lay back on his small stool, gazing at the starry sky.

The sky here was so clear, it seemed like the bottom of a river, with stars scattered like pebbles. It created a sense of vast emptiness and solitude.

Only at times like this did Ethan let go of his pretenses and quietly reflect on his past and the achievements and honors he had gained.

This was his way of keeping himself alert, always self-reflecting so he could make the right judgments and decisions for the future.

But soon, the silence was broken by the soft sound of footsteps behind him.

Then a soft hand patted his shoulder. "What are you looking at?"

It was Taylor. The evening breeze was a bit chilly, and she wore a coat, her feet in cotton slippers, sitting on a small stool, clutching the collar of her coat tightly.

"Looking at the stars." Ethan pointed to the sky. "I usually don't have time to look at the sky."

"It really is beautiful." Taylor nodded and then turned to him. "I heard that wishing on a shooting star is very effective."

"Is it? I've never tried. If you could make a wish, what would you wish for?" Ethan asked, still looking at the stars.

"Well, I'd wish for my first album to be a huge hit and for me to become famous!"Taylor couldn't help but feel a bit excited just thinking about it.

Ethan thoughtfully rubbed his chin. "I don't think you need to wish for that. You can make it happen."

"Really? Others think I'm just daydreaming." Taylor had met some of the girls training at Angel's Declaration. When they heard she planned to release an album, they all thought that although Ethan had a good eye, becoming successful wasn't that easy.

Some of them were also quite jealous of the extra treatment Ethan gave Taylor, so they secretly said some envious things.

Although Taylor was young, she wasn't naive. She understood these things well and had encountered similar situations in school.

When she first expressed her desire to sing in school, she was often ridiculed by a few classmates who weren't on good terms with her.

"Daydreaming?" Ethan shook his head. "That's not daydreaming. Taylor, you may not believe in yourself, but you must believe in me."

"Believe in you?" Taylor looked at Ethan's profile, lost in thought.

"Yes. Believe in my judgment, my plans." Ethan began to instill some ideas in her. "Everything I do is to make your album better and help you reach that highest goal."

"So, you think I can definitely do it?"

"Of course. I'm absolutely sure. I believe you'll become the brightest star in the American music scene." Ethan's tone was firm, as though he had already seen the future through the river of time.

At that moment, Taylor's eyes sparkled with a light she had never felt before. She lifted her head and, without Ethan noticing, kissed him.

"What?" As Ethan turned around, Little Taylor got up and ran back to her tent.

When he turned around, all he saw was her retreating back.

"This girl." Ethan couldn't help but chuckle but didn't say anything. He just stretched his legs, picked up some hot tea, and continued to gaze at the stars.

The next day, at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.

This was a gathering place for country music songwriters. Many people came here for afternoon tea.

They were either overweight or dressed in eccentric clothes, sitting outside the cafe, sipping hand-brewed lattes and chatting with a few friends for hours—this was their happiest time.

When they got excited, they would pick up their instruments and perform impromptu.

On the stage outside the cafe, bands would occasionally play as well.

Ethan's group met Nathan Chapman at the Bluebird Cafe. He was the main producer for Taylor's first album, and Ethan contacted him to help improve her album.

"Hello, Ethan." Nathan Chapman was a man with a bushy beard, wearing a black jacket and a cowboy hat, looking quite distinctive.

"Hello." After everyone exchanged greetings, they sat down and started discussing business.

"So, is this the reason you called me here?" Nathan Chapman looked at Taylor.

"That's right."

"Hmm… Honestly, I don't want to leave Nashville. It's been a while since I've produced an album for a newcomer." Nathan Chapman paused, clearly hesitant about Ethan's suggestion.

But since he voiced his concerns, Ethan knew they could now negotiate.

"Why not listen to Taylor's songs first?" Ethan gestured to Little Taylor, who then walked up to the stage.

The band members were surprised to see a young girl stepping up.

The afro-haired drummer asked curiously, "What do you want to sing? Just say the name, as long as it's country music, we'll play!"

But Taylor shook her head, grabbed the microphone, and said, "No, I'm going to sing my own country music. You definitely won't know it."

Then, she started singing.

"He said my blue eyes were sparkling, making the stars in Georgia dim, I laughed and said, 'That's a lie.'

"Just like a boy in a Chevy truck."

When Nathan Chapman heard Taylor sing, he froze for a moment, then began nodding slightly as he listened to the song.

The surrounding songwriters and musicians, upon hearing Taylor's performance, looked at the girl who dared to sing in front of such a large crowd.

"This sounds really good. Did she write it herself?"

"I'm not sure, I've never heard it before. It must be an original song."

"So, what's her name?"

"Never seen her before. Should we ask? Maybe we can sign her."

When Taylor finished singing, the murmurs stopped.

In full view of everyone, Taylor quickly ran over to sit beside Ethan, looking sweet with her golden hair and blue eyes, like a doll.

"So, Mr. Chapman, what do you think? Is it good?" Ethan asked with a smile.

Nathan Chapman thought for a moment. "It's a good song. It's a little raw, but alright, I'll agree."

He didn't hesitate much. When producers encountered potential talent, they couldn't resist.

Especially when it was in their field of expertise.

"However, I would like to recommend a few more people. With their help, I believe this song and the upcoming ones will improve," Nathan Chapman paused for a moment before listing a few names: "Robert Ellis Orall, Tahar , Facundo Darl."

"They don't come cheap," Nathan Chapman added.

"Haha, Mr. Chapman, no problem at all," Ethan replied without hesitation, immediately agreeing.

"As long as you're willing to help Taylor with the album, the fees aren't an issue."

These words made Taylor's smile widen, and her gaze shifted more toward Ethan.

However, the next moment, a man's voice suddenly rang out from the side: "Excuse me, was it you singing just now?"

Ethan and Nathan Chapman turned around and saw a well-dressed man with curly hair standing in front of them.

"My name is Scott Borchetta, and I'm the owner of Big Machine Music," the man introduced himself.

Ethan raised an eyebrow, surprised to encounter him here.

Scott Borchetta was the person who, in the original course of history, first recognized Taylor's talent and signed her to his label.
