"Water… Minato??"
Sarutobi Hiruzen nearly dropped his cigarette in shock as he stammered.
Minato nodded slightly and quickly said to Sarutobi, "The Hyuga clan's little girl has been kidnapped. Naruto is tracking them as we speak. Lord Third, please send Anbu to the Forest of Death. The exact location is..."
His words were rushed, revealing that Minato's chakra was almost depleted.
Sarutobi Hiruzen's face paled as the reality sank in. He knew the Cloud Village's diplomatic mission wasn't entirely innocent, but to attempt an abduction involving a bloodline limit? That was a serious overstep.
Without hesitation, Sarutobi shouted, "Anbu!"
An Anbu operative instantly appeared in the office, ready for orders. His composure briefly broke when he saw Minato, a man he knew to be long dead, standing there.
"Send all available Anbu teams to the Forest of Death. Their mission is to locate Uzumaki Naruto immediately!" Sarutobi commanded.
The Anbu bowed low, "Yes, Lord Third!" He then disappeared in a blur, executing the Body Flicker technique.
Meanwhile, another Anbu, the one tasked with monitoring Naruto, burst into the office. "Lord Third, we have a situation! The Fourth Hokage has—" He stopped short as he noticed Minato, though the Fourth's form was fading, flickering like a flame about to go out.
Minato turned to Sarutobi, his voice soft but sure. "Don't worry. Naruto is my son—nothing will happen to him. I leave everything in your hands now, Lord Third."
Minato didn't have the knowledge of Naruto's upbringing. He was merely a shadow, a remnant of the Minato from the night of the Nine-Tails' attack, with no awareness of the events that followed. Sarutobi, upon hearing Minato's words, felt a sharp pang of guilt.
The Anbu who had been monitoring Naruto stood in shocked silence. What had he just heard? Uzumaki Naruto—the village outcast—was the son of the Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato?
How could that possibly be? The very idea shook him to his core.
Sarutobi Hiruzen and the monitoring Anbu were both silent, but for different reasons. Minato, unaware of their thoughts, vanished into thin air as his chakra finally dissipated.
A tense silence filled the room.
The Anbu, still reeling from the revelation, finally spoke, his tone sharp and accusing, "Lord Hokage, what have you been hiding all this time?"
Sarutobi sighed, his voice weary. "I did it for Naruto's protection. Minato had many enemies. Revealing Naruto's lineage would have placed him in great danger."
It was a weak explanation, and they both knew it. But Sarutobi was Hokage—his decisions weren't easily questioned. Yet, in that moment, something in the Anbu's heart shifted. He had always believed in the Will of Fire, that the village was a family and that every villager was a part of that family. But Naruto? He had been treated like an outsider, like a monster.
The weight of the truth pressed heavily on the Anbu, his resolve faltering as he realized the hypocrisy of it all.
Sarutobi, sensing the Anbu's inner turmoil, spoke gently but firmly. "There are things we cannot change, even if we wish to. Focus on retrieving Naruto. We'll deal with the consequences of the Cloud Shinobi's actions later."
The Anbu nodded mechanically, but his thoughts were elsewhere. In his mind, Sarutobi had all but abandoned Hinata, the girl who had been kidnapped, and was prioritizing Naruto instead. The once-fierce loyalty he felt for the village, for Sarutobi, had dimmed.
Sarutobi, however, didn't notice. He had given his orders and was already thinking of the next steps. The situation with the Cloud Village had to be handled delicately, but Naruto's safety took precedence.
As the Anbu left the office, he couldn't help but question when Konoha had become so passive, so willing to tolerate such violations from their supposed allies.
…
Back in the Forest of Death, Naruto carried the now unconscious Hinata in his arms as he made his way toward the Hyuga clan's compound. Hinata, exhausted from her ordeal, had passed out almost immediately after Naruto saved her.
Naruto glanced down at her, her soft breathing and peaceful expression almost at odds with the chaos that had just occurred. He smiled briefly but quickly refocused. The situation was far from resolved.
The abduction of Hinata by Cloud Shinobi didn't make sense. Even for ninja as skilled as they were, infiltrating the Hyuga compound unnoticed was nearly impossible. Naruto couldn't believe they'd succeeded without inside help. Something was off.
Kurama's voice echoed in his mind, reminding Naruto of his earlier promise. "Don't forget what you said, Naruto."
Naruto responded mentally, "I haven't forgotten, Kurama. I'll fulfill my promise, but not yet. I need to find a way to separate you from me without dying in the process."
Kurama growled, his anger palpable. "You're stalling! You're going back on your word!"
Naruto shook his head and reassured the Nine-Tails, "I'm not lying to you, Kurama. I need to be sure I can survive the process first."
Kurama fell silent after that, but Naruto could feel the fox's agitation. Despite that, Naruto chose to trust in their uneasy truce. After all, he hadn't tightened the seal. That counted for something, didn't it?
As Naruto approached the Hyuga compound, he was spotted by the vigilant guards. In an instant, they surrounded him, their eyes sharp and their stances tense.
"Who are you? Why are you carrying our Lady Hinata? Answer quickly!" one of them demanded.
Naruto clicked his tongue in irritation, though he maintained a calm front. "You spotted me from over a hundred meters away, but you didn't notice Hinata being kidnapped? How does that make sense?"
The Hyuga guards exchanged nervous glances. Naruto's words cut deeper than they expected.
Naruto's expression darkened. "Take me to Hiashi. Now."
The guards hesitated, unsure of how to handle the situation. But Naruto's cold demeanor and the fact that he had just saved their heiress left them with little room to argue. Reluctantly, they led him to Hiashi.
When they arrived, Hiashi's face stiffened upon seeing Naruto holding his daughter. The Hyuga clan had strict traditions, and Naruto being so close to Hinata—physically holding her—was enough to cause alarm.
But Hiashi's attention quickly shifted to his daughter, who still seemed a bit out of sorts.
"What happened, Uzumaki Naruto?" Hiashi asked, his voice controlled but with an edge of worry.
At that moment, Hinata stirred, opening her eyes to see her father. Instantly, she pulled away from Naruto, her posture becoming stiff and formal.
Naruto, however, wasn't interested in the formalities. "You didn't even realize that Hinata had been kidnapped, did you?"
Hiashi frowned, turning to Hinata. "Weren't you in your room resting?"
Hinata, still shaken, recounted what had happened, explaining how the Cloud Shinobi had taken her.
