"Do you want me to show you?" Naruto asked, his face serious as he looked at Sakura.
Sakura Haruno, though slightly nervous, felt her curiosity get the better of her. She nodded, intrigued.
Naruto didn't waste any time. He repeated his previous actions, walking confidently into the small mask shop nearby. From outside, Sakura heard the angry shouts of the store owner.
"You damn monster! Don't step into my shop again!"
"You think you can just buy something here? Didn't I make myself clear the last time?"
"I'd rather starve to death than sell anything to the likes of you!"
Moments later, Naruto walked out, his expression unbothered, hands tucked into his pockets as if this outburst was something he had grown accustomed to. Sakura swallowed hard, seeing his calm demeanor in the face of such cruelty.
Frowning in frustration, she clenched her fists and said determinedly, "I'll buy it for you! Which one do you want?"
Naruto shrugged indifferently. "Anything's fine." He reached into his pocket, pulling out a few silver coins and handing them over to Sakura without much thought.
Taking the coins, Sakura marched into the shop, determined to right the wrong she had just witnessed. It didn't take long before the owner's furious voice echoed through the air once again.
"Get out! I know you're here to buy for that monster!"
"What kind of girl even wants a tiger mask?! You think I don't know it's for him?!"
"Stop it! I'll call the authorities!"
Ignoring the rants, Sakura dashed out of the store, clutching the mask tightly in her hands, her face flushed with a mix of excitement and fear. "Naruto, run!" she yelled as she sped toward him.
Naruto, wide-eyed, asked, "What did you do?!"
Without answering, Sakura kept running, and seeing the shopkeeper stumbling out of the store in pursuit, Naruto had no choice but to follow. Despite the chase, the shopkeeper—a rather rotund man—couldn't keep up with their pace for long. He soon stopped, wheezing heavily, bent over with his hands on his knees.
Out of breath, the man yelled after them, "You brats! Just wait until I get my hands on you!"
But after another moment, he gave up and shuffled back to his shop, clearly more concerned about leaving it unattended.
Naruto and Sakura finally stopped, catching their breath. Sakura pulled the tiger mask out from under her jacket and proudly handed it over to Naruto. "There, now we're even, right?" she said with a satisfied grin.
Naruto inspected the mask. It was a little big for his face, but that was fine. It would cover him well, hiding his features from those who judged him so harshly.
Sakura watched him closely, feeling a strange mix of emotions. She didn't quite understand why this small gift seemed to make Naruto so happy. She had never lived his life and couldn't comprehend the deep loneliness and rejection he faced daily.
Clearing her throat awkwardly, she finally spoke. "You know... if you ever need help with stuff like this in the future, I can lend a hand."
Naruto was taken aback by her offer. "Really, Sakura-chan?" He had his doubts. After all, in the original timeline, he remembered Sakura being more self-centered, especially when it came to Sasuke.
Sakura gave him a sly smile and leaned in close, whispering mischievously, "But I do have one condition~"
Naruto raised an eyebrow, already guessing where this was headed. "Let me guess, it's about Sasuke?"
Sakura nodded enthusiastically, her face lighting up at the mere mention of his name. "You're close to Sasuke, right? I want... a picture of him."
Naruto chuckled. "That's all? Easy. I have some back at home."
Sakura's eyes gleamed with excitement. The exhaustion from their run seemed to vanish at the prospect of getting her hands on a picture of her crush. She eagerly followed Naruto back to his apartment, momentarily forgetting the rumors she had heard about Naruto being a monster.
When they arrived, Sakura couldn't help but be surprised by Naruto's living conditions. His apartment, though small, was tidy and well-kept, far from the chaotic mess she had expected. It was evident that despite living alone, Naruto took care of his space.
As she looked around, a thought suddenly struck her, making her frown. How was Naruto's place so neat and clean? The only explanation that came to mind was... either he had an unusual amount of free time, or something more bizarre was at play. Could Naruto and Sasuke...? She shook the thought from her mind, not willing to dive any deeper into such ideas.
Naruto rummaged through a drawer, pulling out a photograph of Sasuke. "Here you go," he said, handing it over.
Sakura's eyes widened in shock as she glanced at the picture. "W-w-what?! This can't be real!" she stammered.
In the photograph, Sasuke was dressed in an adorable pink outfit, his face flushed with a mix of shyness and irritation. The contrast between his usual stoic demeanor and this embarrassing pose was almost too much for Sakura to process.
"This... this is a rare treasure!" she gasped, clutching the photo tightly in her hands. "But why does Sasuke have a picture like this?"
Naruto shrugged. "Does it matter? Just say it doesn't meet your standards if you don't want it."
But Sakura was already nodding frantically. "No, no! It's perfect! I'll take it!"
And so, an agreement was made. From that day on, Sakura would help Naruto with anything he needed, and in return, Naruto would reward her with more photos of Sasuke.
True to her word, Sakura became Naruto's secret ally. She helped him with errands, going to places he was shunned from, buying things he needed. Her motivation was clear—more pictures of Sasuke—but in doing so, she unknowingly became one of Naruto's few friends.
With her newfound enthusiasm, Sakura carried bags of supplies, more than she'd usually be able to handle. But her obsession with Sasuke gave her strength, driving her to complete even the most mundane tasks for Naruto.
Days turned into weeks, and before they knew it, three months had passed. It was nearing the end of the year, and the winter break from the Ninja Academy was just around the corner.
On the last day of school, Naruto waited at the gates, a familiar routine by now. Sakura soon appeared, her face flushed as she approached him with a package in hand. She handed him a fresh set of underwear she had bought for him, as per their usual arrangement.
Naruto, in return, pulled out another photo of Sasuke, ready to make the exchange. But this time, something was different. Sakura didn't reach out to take it.
Confused, Naruto looked at her. "What's wrong?"
Sakura stared at him intently, her cheeks tinged pink. "Naruto," she began hesitantly, "instead of Sasuke's photo this time... Can I have a picture of you?"
Naruto blinked in surprise. "Huh?"
