HAWAR OF THE WINTER GARDEN

CHAPTER 0.2

Canola stuck out her head and stared at Ludek with her eyes, while frowning.

No matter what, it was time to go outside and see what the problem is.

It was already too cold just by opening the window. If she opened the door, how cold would it be? She didn’t want to imagine anymore. Unable to fail the people with her, she reluctantly went out of the carriage. As she stretched her crouched body, while opening the door, she could feel the gushing coldness from outside. She let out a brief scream in response to the cold.

The weather feels crazy! It wasn’t very noble for a princess like her to go out of the carriage, but it was something everyone would have done the same.

“What? What happened?”

“The wheels are broken. Due to the roughness of the path, it couldn’t bear any longer.”

If things don’t work out anymore, everyone will be in trouble. No, to be exact, she knew that this golden carriage would be like this. What can a golden carriage do in a snow-capped mountain?

Canola recalled her mean older sister. Next to her fuming brother, who had his cold eyes fixed on her, her sister gifted her the golden carriage, claiming that it was indeed a present for her. Just before she left, her sister revealed to her that something will go awry on their way. Even the positive Canola can’t help but to get emotional at this kind of situation. Are you kidding me, a surprise gift along with this golden carriage?

“… Shall I just throw it away with a fresh heart?”

“Oh, no, no. We have to use that to make a face and stand out, besides we can’t make it through with this kind of weather!”

When she got out of the carriage, Oscar, who followed her, leapt to dry Canola. Likewise, Angelina got off the wagon and approached the broken wheel of the golden chariot. As she pokes her finger at the broken spot, she approaches Canola in amazement.

“Oh my God, Princess!”

“Why? What did you find? Did someone break it on purpose to slander me?”

If you look at things that have happened to her in a novels’ view, there would be cases where the villainess would purposely scheme against the female lead, such as, surprise attack in the middle of nowhere, therefore she can’t step forward and be left like that? Being the Princess Charlemann, there was never a law that says she can’t be harmed in any way.

Ludek was startled by Canola’s serious question, and he looked at Angelina seriously. Oscar also leaned his head to her gently and waited for Angelina to speak. Angelina, who received the attention of the three people, lowered her voice with a very tense face.

“I think that golden carriage is real!”

“… What?”

“You don’t know anything! Of course it will break! Considering that it had come this far!”

Canola and Ludek looked at Angelina with their absurd expressions. It was Oscar who responded to Angelina’s very excited words. He looked surprised and asked sarcastically.

“Are you sure? Isn’t it only plated?”

“I’ve told you already, haven’t I? Why don’t you come and see for yourself, old man?”

Canola, who stood around the golden carriage and stared at the gossiping Oscar and Angelina, smiled and turned to Ludek.

“Let’s just let them be.”

Ludek almost asked what’s the reason for throwing it away, but in the end, he only swallowed his words and bit his tongue. Did she suggest that they abandon Oscar and Angelina? The three of them are very special, even if they look like that. He must have understood it strangely because he missed the flow of conversation momentarily.

Ludek followed Canola’s laugh with a ‘Hahaha’. Then she answered with a firm voice.

“It’s real gold, isn’t it? We have to carry it with us.”

Canola turned around with a blank expression on her face. It seems that the three of them will be carrying the golden carriage. She was going to die due to the cold, therefore she’d have to get back inside the carriage quickly.

Canola clasped tightly to the blanket that had been wrapped around her and took a step forward. But she could not fulfill her will. It was because a soldier who had gone ahead of them to check the road was running fast. His appearance, running down from the highlands, seemed so urgent that Canola stared intently in the direction he was coming from for a long time.

“Hey, Ludek?”

She cautiously summoned Ludek without taking her eyes off of the man that was running, but he was busy discussing the golden chariot with the two old people. Canola cleared her throat and called out to Ludek in a much louder voice.

“Lu-Dek!”

“Oh? Yes, did you call?”

“If my eyes weren’t wrong, I think that’s the people over there?”

From the side of the hill from which the soldier ran, shadows were being clearer one by one. Meanwhile, the soldier had almost reached Canola. Ludek, who discovered the shadow of a human, approached the soldier with a new expression. Canola stared blankly at the shadows from a distance, even as the gasping soldier reported something to Ludek.

She said in her mind that someone might have planned to harm her, but it was only something of a joke, it wasn’t serious. What is the reason to have someone far from the right of earning the succession of the throne, be harmed? Canola slapped her mouth, but it was only after unknown forces came to them.

Maybe bandits? She hasn’t heard of a bandit in the middle of this Winter Mountains, but it may be unknown. Although it is a mountain range where snow doesn’t melt all year round, human adaptability is always beyond imagination. There is nothing one can’t do if he tries to figure out a way to survive in this cold weather. But would one be able to make a living if he was a bandit here?

“Or if you get a rich person like me, do you make a living out of it…?”

Indulging in a strange imagination, Canola momentarily missed Ludek’s report. She belatedly found Ludek saying something to her, and Canola gave him a puzzled look. Ludek had a very happy expression on his face. Was it because it was too foggy that she couldn’t see his face clearly? Or has Ludek finally gone insane from the stress of this dilemma?

“But you still have a conscience!”

Angelina, who approached after hearing the commotion, spoke her words in her hoarse voice. Canola looked back at Angelina with her bewildered eyes. She was sympathizing with Oscar as she crossed her arms and nodded her head with a solemn expression.

So, what?

“Ha?”

“Ah, it looks like the person we’re finding for is in the front.”

Angelina pointed at someone with her hand. Canola slowly turned her head to look where she was pointing. The people who were shadows were now close enough for her to recognize their faces. They were quite numerous, but Canola’s gaze was fixed on the man at the forefront. Canola’s eyes widened.

He was driving a wooly horse, and he was dressed in a black fur. He already stood out for that alone, but what caught her eyes the most was his white hair fluttering in the wind and his more transparent white skin.

“Princess, prepare to welcome him with an elegant face…”

“Angelina.”

Angelina, who was staring straight ahead with a watchful eye, turned to Canola at her odd call. After seeing Canola’s blank expression, Angelina felt something ominous and called out Canola’s name softly. But Canola didn’t answer her and just looked straight ahead. Canola had a dumb expression on her face, blinking her eyes, then turned to Angelina, making moment of covering her mouth with her hand.

“I think I’m in love.”

He is such an innocent and pretty man that she can’t help but to fall in love!!
