Harry Potter: Using science to be IMMORTAL

Chapter 399: Chapter 398: Magic Chip

At the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

A grouper swims through a patch of water.

This was where a sea fish, possessed by the god Tyr, appeared through spatial teleportation.

At that time, the sea fish exploded into flesh and blood debris due to the pressure of spatial teleportation, but the currents of the ocean had long since washed away any trace of blood in this area.

The grouper swam calmly past, but soon, its body suddenly swelled, and the fins on either side extended and even changed shape, gradually forming what looked like scales and claws.

It suddenly doubled its speed, lunging at a school of sardines, sucking in two fish directly into its stomach, then extending a scale claw to grab another sardine and stuff it into its mouth.

As it feasted crazily, its body kept swelling as if the flesh and blood it consumed were being transformed into its own tissue.

However, as it was indulging in its gluttony, suddenly a net swept over, capturing it along with dozens of nearby fish into the net, which was then lifted and dumped onto the deck of a fishing boat.

A person in full protective gear, wearing rubber gloves, picked up the tail of the grouper, ignoring its frantic struggles, and lifted it.

"Mutant species, the third batch, still hasn't disappeared…"

Speaking, he and several others counted the various species of fish, setting aside those that had mutated like the grouper, then tallied the numbers.

"A total of fifty tons of various fish captured, forty-six mutant fish weighing 2.3 tons, a mutation rate of 4.6%, only a 2% decrease from the last batch, and the contaminated area seems to be expanding."

"Report it to the lab," another person said.

...

"The magic level is very low," a researcher reported to Murphy at the magic research institute. "Even direct onsite detection of the contaminated waters shows only a slightly higher level of magical energy than normal water bodies, not even as high as Hogwarts' Black Lake."

"The magic levels within those mutant fish populations are somewhat considerable but at most equivalent to ordinary magical creatures, most mutant fish's magic levels aren't even as high as a goblin's."

"After adjusting the magic detection algorithm, we can roughly delineate the contaminated area's range, but this type of range detection can only be accurate to a hundred-meter scale, making it difficult to precisely monitor small currents and those mutant fish, making it nearly impossible to prevent the spread of contamination."

Murphy nodded, understanding that the flesh and blood components seemed different from "essence" or what they had previously thought of as god's blood, with a much lower energy level.

This might be because these substances are not true god's blood but have merely been contaminated with the aura of a deity.

A drop of essence is enough to make a magic stone, but the flesh and blood left by creatures once possessed by Tyr, although still magical, is merely on the level of magical animals, "green" at most in Murphy's magic vision.

Low energy level, small energy amount, tracking these bits of flesh and blood in the ocean would require a tenfold increase in the precision and intensity of satellite detection.

Even if it were possible to detect, tracking the movement trajectories of those tiny substances in the water would demand computational resources even Pioneer couldn't afford.

As the other party said, it's like nuclear wastewater already discharged into the ocean, preventing the spread of pollution is virtually impossible. Even throwing a few more nuclear bombs wouldn't evaporate billions of cubic meters of water in the contaminated area.

"What potential harm could there be?" Murphy asked.

"Based on the contaminated creatures observed so far, they might undergo some physical mutations, becoming stronger and more aggressive and bloodthirsty, but their numbers are negligible compared to the entire ocean's ecosystem, and there haven't been any cases of super individuals yet. Our comprehensive assessment is that it shouldn't cause too much ecological harm."

"However, this is just the beginning. The future changes in these mutant creatures still need continuous observation."

Murphy wasn't entirely sure whether Tyr was truly dead. After all, it was hard enough to kill a saint, let alone a real god.

If this was a once-in-a-millennium chance for those trapped gods, Murphy thought they probably wouldn't let it slip through their fingers so easily.

The flesh and blood of those contaminated fish might be Tyr's backup plan, possibly aiming to avoid Murphy's monitoring to cause trouble.

But Murphy really had no good way to deal with this; he couldn't possibly sift through the entire Atlantic Ocean.

"We can only do so much, then. Notify me immediately if there are any abnormalities."

...

Putting aside the issue of the god Tyr, Murphy initiated the prosthetics plan.

Equipping cutting-edge devices with a networking control chip wasn't particularly challenging.

However, after connecting things like electronic microscopes and ultra-miniature probes to the Pioneer network, the expected leap to another level of control didn't happen.

On the perception level, although the information from various lenses like electronic microscopes, radars, and telescopes needed to go through a complex translation logic after entering Pioneer via electronic signals, making them hard to use intuitively like one's own eyes, adjusting the algorithms slightly to make the information from these sensory tools familiar was manageable.

It was somewhat like taking a virtual trip with VR goggles. It wasn't as real as seeing with one's own eyes, but it was usable.

However, on the operational level, he found that he couldn't use things like "probes" to enhance his precision in controlling magic.

The reason was simple: his magic couldn't be transmitted through the internet.

He could indeed control finer objects with probes, but that was only on a mechanical level. His magic remained solely in the "Pioneer" Horcrux, with Pioneer and probes exchanging information through light and electrical signals.

He could switch the operational tools to magic devices, but those devices would still be powered by magic stones, essentially automated machines, and he was just sending a work signal to the machines.

It was similar to how he now uses magic satellites.

To achieve the goal of enhancing Murphy's precision in controlling magic, he would have to use his own magic, treating those operational tools as extensions of himself, like a "wand," to be wielded at will.

That is to say, for the current him, those operational tools still felt like a knife, a gun, a remote control - they hadn't become part of him.

The solution was actually straightforward: connect a precision device that could be powered by magic to Pioneer using magic metal wires.

But here lies the problem: there are no high-tech devices driven by magic.

The main issue involves replacing materials used in many precision devices with magic metals, which is not straightforward.

The most critical component is the control chip, which would be affected by magic's "possibility amplification effect."

"Pioneer" operates normally because it's Murphy's Horcrux, equivalent to his body, an extension of a wizard's self-consciousness, protected by the absolute domain of the wizard's mental singularity. The uncertainty caused by magical fluctuations can't affect it; otherwise, wizards would have died out long ago due to genetic disorders caused by magic.

Unless Murphy makes all devices he wants to connect to Pioneer into Horcruxes, these electronic chips will still be affected.

Because they aren't part of Murphy's "body," they haven't been imbued with his magic to

 become a unified whole.

To precisely control magic, precise machinery is needed, and the operation of precise machinery requires control chips. However, ordinary electronic chips aren't compatible with magic and can't be driven by it.

Thus, the only solution left is to create a magic chip.
