Chapter 68: Harry's Another Reason
As Harry and Minerva entered the office of Hogwarts' headmaster, Dumbledore was sitting on his large chair behind his desk. He though tried to maintain his usual 'grandfatherly smile' and the 'kind face with twinkling eyes', Harry could see the stiffness in Dumbledore's smile and the slight anxiety hidden in Dumbledore's eyes behind his half moon glasses.
Seeing this 'ever controlling' Dumbledore, lose his control, Harry felt slight amusement going through his mind.
"Thank you, Minerva," Dumbledore said and it was a cue for her dismissal.
Minerva nodded and she cast a last glance at Harry and then walked away from the office.
"Have a seat, Harry," Dumbledore gestured to Harry.
Harry nodded as he maintained a calm expression on his face.
"Headmaster," he said and sat on the chair.
Dumbledore maintained silence for few moments and then he sighed like a disappointed 'grandfather'.
"Harry," he said. "Though, I had summoned you here for a specific purpose… but honestly I do not where to start."
Although Harry understood what Dumbledore was trying to imply, Harry maintained his silence. Just like the previous time, he was not going to be followed into Dumbledore's way of conversation.
It was Dumbledore's manipulative masterclass where the old man would drop a sentence- how he felt, mostly disappointment and the other person would fall back to giving explanation.
This would not only give an upper hand to Dumbledore in the conversation but the there was a good chance that the other person may reveal some information which he might have not intended to do so.
Seeing Harry's silence, Dumbledore sighed, "Harry, let us first talk about your behaviour in the great hall in the morning."
Dumbledore went quiet as he waited for Harry to offer an explanation, but Harry kept quiet as he also waited for Dumbledore to talk.
"Harry," Dumbledore sighed. "Your anger issues are getting better of you."
"That kind of behaviour- breaking a table, insulting a professor and calling him by his name and then shouting about not accepting any punishment is not something I expect of you," Dumbledore added as he sounded quite emotional. "From son of Lily Potter."
"Maybe you do from son of James Potter," Harry quipped.
As if 'realising' his mistake, he mumbled, "Sorry."
Dumbledore sighed, "What do you have to say about it?"
Harry shook his head, "Has Draco been questioned, headmaster?"
"I still stand firm on my words… why is that it is me who is always responsible for incidents but the Draco Malfoy gets a free pass on everything he does?" Harry asked as he put extra emphasis on the word 'everything'.
"Is it because his father is on the board of governors of Hogwarts?" Harry pressed. "Is he above rules and regulations of Hogwarts?"
Dumbledore frowned hearing Harry's words. Never in the past three years, had Harry questioned his judgements. Never had Harry sounded so rebellious.
He shook his head, "Harry… what Draco does is a different matter…"
"What you do is more important…" he added. "Just because Draco behaves in a certain manner, it does not mean that you should also do it."
Hearing this Harry felt silent as if lost in some kinds of thoughts.
"Okay," Harry asked. "This time, I will explain my point of view… but only this time."
Though Dumbledore felt irritation creeping in his mind at this unruly behaviour from Harry, he nodded his head, "Go on."
"Headmaster, remember last time, I had talked about how my scar is behaving differently… weirdly?" Harry asked. "That how I feel that someone else is trying to take control over me… how I do not feel entirely in control?"
Dumbledore nodded with narrowed eyes and wondered if Harry would again give the same 'tale' as the reason.
"Headmaster," Harry whispered. "It is you know… when I hear the word 'mud blood' for Hermione or 'half blood' for myself, that feeling intensifies many times over."
"It is just that I cannot bear my self or my closed ones to be insulted because of blood status," Harry sighed. "I feel hatred oozing from inside me whenever my blood status is being talked about."
"This was not like this in the previous years," Harry said. "Although, I had felt anger on Hermione being insulted, I did not care much for me. Even so, it was not like I would do something or take a grave action."
"I feel rage taking over me," Harry said and Dumbledore fell into complete silence.
"I see," he only said this after moments of silence. What Harry just told him had raised many alarm bells for Dumbledore.
Reason- this hatred for one's blood status felt very similar to one person whom Dumbledore knew. Tom Riddle or Lord Voldemort.
Voldemort had hated his half blood status. Even when he had been in Hogwarts, Riddle could not have bear saying someone 'half blood' to him… someone insulting his blood status.
And now Harry was showcasing the same feelings. When the last time, Harry had talked about his scar, Dumbledore had felt that Voldemort's presence in Harry's mindscape was showing its effect. But this made matter more serious than it looked.
"Headmaster," Harry said. "Did you find any solution for this?"
Harry's question brought Dumbledore out his thoughts as he shook his head.
"No, Harry," he replied. "But I am looking into it."
"I believe, I will soon have an answer," Dumbledore smiled.
"Let us now talk about the main thing for which I had summoned you," Dumbledore changed the topic. "Study of Ancient Runes."
