Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 416: Chapter 416: Stalemate

To boost the soldiers' morale, King Llane personally remained on the battlements after the siege began, surrounded by a group of elite royal guards.

Alaric and Garona stood beside King Llane.

One was a masterful mage, and the other an extraordinary rogue; they felt no fear of flying stones or the orc soldiers while on the battlements.

As advisors and envoys from Dalaran, they could have easily sheltered in the palace and avoided the turmoil.

However, to protect Llane and enhance the reputation of the Stormwind Kingdom, Alaric ultimately chose to stand with Llane and provide some measure of protection.

The Dalaran mage group was nearby but had not intervened yet. The situation had not deteriorated to its worst, and they needed to guard against enemy warlocks.

Garona's intelligence had revealed that the Twilight Hammer was one of the few clans within the orc tribe that possessed a large number of warlocks.

When the orcs finally breached the battlements, and the defenders were caught in a fierce battle, King Llane could no longer stand aside as a mere "decorative piece."

He drew his sword, heedless of the pleas from the guards and other generals, and boldly entered the fray.

Once an expert makes a move, it's clear what they're capable of.

King Llane was not only an excellent king but also a formidable warrior.

Although he couldn't be compared to someone of Lothar's caliber, he was nonetheless a rare master among ordinary soldiers.

As he took the initiative to attack, he immediately faced an orc warrior wielding a deadly axe.

This orc, immensely strong, had already felled five soldiers along with their armor using his massive axe.

When Llane appeared before him, a grotesque grin appeared on the orc's ugly face.

Llane's armor was quite splendid, clearly marking him as a leader of the enemy!

Without hesitation, the orc launched an attack against Llane, his heavy axe slicing through the air toward Llane's head.

Even with both hands gripping his sword, Llane could not hope to withstand such a fierce blow.

However, combat between warriors is not solely determined by strength.

Although Llane was no longer young, his keen eyesight allowed him to see through the orc's attack pattern.

With a nimble step, he dodged the blow and stepped closer to the orc, plunging his blade into its chest.

A single, deadly strike pierced the orc's heart, killing it instantly.

Then he turned to find his next target.

Under Llane's command, the royal guards plunged into battle, utilizing their formidable combat prowess to fend off the orcs storming the battlements.

Only three or four guards remained at Llane's side for safety.

At Alaric's signal, Garona also joined the fight.

As a top-tier rogue, she moved with agility through the ranks of both sides, disappearing silently and reappearing just as quietly. T

he only evidence of her presence was the orc soldiers falling beneath her blade.

Alaric himself remained in place.

Unlike most mages who cast fireballs, arcane missiles, and ice arrows directly, he focused on casting buff spells on the human soldiers while employing debuffs against the orcs.

For example, he placed a magical shield and stone skin on someone about to be killed, cast haste on Garona, and used immobilization spells, sleep curses, and disarm spells on the orcs...

While it may not seem as glamorous as fireballs and ice arrows, it proved to be quite effective.

Soon, with the help of these fresh troops, the orcs and ogres that had climbed the battlements were slaughtered, and the orcs were pushed back, temporarily easing the crisis for the defenders.

On the other side, seeing the offensive falter, the Twilight Hammer's chieftain, Gul'dan, immediately committed more troops, seeking to overwhelm the defending soldiers.

Before long, the human soldiers defending the city were breached again, forcing King Llane to lead another counterattack.

Thus, the defense of the battlements turned into a stalemate.

Both on and off the walls, bodies littered the ground. Overall, the orcs suffered heavier losses. The Stormwind Kingdom maintained its advantage as their defenses had not been breached.

Finally, Gul'dan could no longer contain his fury.

The horrific casualties and the prolonged failure to breach the walls had driven him into a rage, and he turned his gaze toward the warlocks shrouded in dark robes behind him.

"It's time for you to take the stage (let's go, servants of the shadows)," Gul'dan commanded loudly, "Let them see the power of the shadows!

"Your command is our order."

The warlocks bowed to Gul'dan, then looked toward the battlements, preparing their spells—or rather, their dark sorcery.

In an instant, the sinister magic turned the tide of battle on the battlements.

A skilled royal guard was toying with an orc warrior, who had become reckless and revealed an opening.

Exhausted from old strength and lacking new vigor, he had no chance to defend against the guard's attack.

Suddenly, the royal guard froze in place as if seeing something terrifying, letting out a scream of fear. This once brave warrior began to tremble uncontrollably.

The orc warrior seized the opportunity, swiftly cleaving the guard in two with a single strike.

Another human officer, after killing two orcs, suddenly ignited in an eerie flame. The green fire seemed to burn deep into his bones, eliciting a haunting scream.

Yet no one could intervene; the soldiers around him could only watch helplessly as their leader turned into a heap of smoldering ashes.

Some orcs received brutal reinforcements—small-scale fire rains fell upon them, igniting all nearby beings, including the orcs themselves.

The human soldiers suffered significant losses under the fire rains, but the orcs faced a similar fate.

In just a few short minutes, many human warriors fell victim to these bizarre tactics...

However, all of this alerted the forces of Stormwind.

The enemy's spellcasters had made their move.

Indeed, when they sensed the waves of malevolent magic, the mage group from Dalaran and the court mages of Stormwind keenly realized something was amiss.

In warfare, spellcasters are typically the most powerful and destructive class and are usually the ones tasked with resolving conflicts.

Most archers could not match the range of magic, nor could their attack power penetrate the mages' magical shields.

The stealth abilities of rogues had little effect against spellcasters who were well-prepared on the battlefield.

The detection of spells made them conspicuous in front of mages, and triggering magical effects turned a rogue's "one-shot kill" into a distant hope.

Only those who understand spellcasters best—other spellcasters—could effectively counter them.

Now, while the warlocks of the Twilight Hammer inflicted significant casualties on the soldiers on the battlements, the human mages had also pinpointed the location of the warlocks.

The war between spellcasters had begun.
