Chapter 13: Chapter -13 Aren't you being unreasonable?
Chapter -13.
Following the lead Auror, Arlis boldly assessed the Dementors lurking around him.
To many of the inmates, these Dementors were frightful creatures.
But for Arlis, a formidable dark wizard, they were nothing more than rotten seafood. If he weren't so absorbed in dark magic, with his combat prowess, he could easily envision himself as the headmaster of Hogwarts!
With a look of contempt, he trailed the Auror toward Azkaban, and just before entering, he caught some loud voices reading from inside.
"Your father should have used tissues that day instead of finding your mother."
"Your parents are in my hands; you can't escape. Even if you try to run, I have my ways of bringing you back!"
Upon hearing this, the Auror preparing to guide the group of prisoners into Azkaban briefly paused in surprise.
It had only been a week; how had this group of miscreants become so fixated on shouting slogans? And what were these slogans? Why were they so vicious?
Shaking his head, the lead Auror dismissed all these errant thoughts from his mind.
He really didn't care what the Azkaban inmates were thinking as long as they weren't planning a riot or trying to escape—that was what mattered.
Before long, the lead Auror successfully assigned this group of new prisoners to their cells. Arlis also seamlessly integrated into his cell in Azkaban, waiting for the right moment to strike.
The moment he entered Azkaban, Arlis began to take action.
First, he carefully scrutinized the other inmates in his cell and, upon observing them, let out a sneer of disdain.
"Who's the leader of this cell?"
The moment the Auror left, he couldn't contain himself and shouted.
As the saying goes, a strong individual should assert dominance over the local ruffians to establish his authority.
But Arlis was not going to stand for any nonsense! He was a notorious wizard killer renowned throughout the magical world, having graduated from Hogwarts at just 18.
Because he was a Muggle-born wizard, finding a respectable job was tough, so he boldly joined the dark wizards and quickly made a name for himself.
He firmly believed he was the strongest being in this small cell.
After all, the individuals here were mostly minor offenders who had committed petty crimes.
In front of Arlis, a powerful dark wizard, these minor offenders were little more than inexperienced newcomers!
"I am!"
No sooner had Arlis spoken than a scarred man stepped forward from among the prisoners.
His face was marred with scars, and he held a blood-stained knife in hand.
Indeed, this was Scar, the leader of the study group appointed by Lester a few days earlier!
Scar toyed with the knife, glaring at Arlis with impatience and disdain.
How dare this new prisoner challenge him, someone mixed up with Lester?
"What do you want? You looking for trouble?"
Scar waved the knife while eyeing Arlis's waist, continuously gesturing.
"Don't you dare!" Watching Scar make gestures with the knife, Arlis truly looked down on him from the depths of his heart.
Who was he trying to intimidate with a flimsy knife in the cell? Did he honestly think Arlis was scared of him?
With a mocking grin, Arlis scoffed, "So what if you are? And what if you aren't..."
Before he could finish, Arlis suddenly froze, feeling a sharp pain in his side.
Looking down, he realized that Scar's knife was now firmly lodged in his waist.
A chill shot through him from his feet to his heart.
Was Scar being a bit too overzealous?
Normally, shouldn't they first exchange insults and inquire about each other's backgrounds?
Then, he would naturally reveal who he was and gain the awe of these inexperienced prisoners, becoming the cell's leader?
Why was this guy stabbing him immediately?
"Aren't you being a bit rude?" Even with a wound in his side, Arlis still tried to reason with him.
He grit his teeth and managed to say a few words.
"Hah, this punk expects respect from us, who are living in this awful place and following some rules..."
Before he could finish, Scar plunged the knife into Arlis's side again.
Pfft!
The sound of a knife entering flesh rang sharply in the cell, cutting off Arlis's words.
"Damn it," he groaned, finally at his breaking point.
He was a dark wizard, not a petty thug!
His strength lay in dark magic, not in taking stabs!
He wanted to talk about rules, but he hadn't anticipated the other party would be so ungrateful.
Instinctively, Arlis's eyes filled with rage as he slowly raised his finger.
"Avada..."
That's right; he was so furious that he decided to unleash his magic!
After all, Lester was stuck in Azkaban and couldn't escape; killing this annoying scar-faced man wouldn't mess up his mission!
As Arlis began his incantation, a faint green light flickered at his fingertip.
Just as he was on the verge of casting it, Scar drove the knife into Arlis's kidney again.
"Damn it!" Arlis, concentrating on his spell, never anticipated Scar would stab him again while he was casting.
The curse he was about to unleash was abruptly interrupted.
The immense backlash from his failed spell surged within him.
"Poof!"
Arlis, reeling from internal and external damage, coughed up a mouthful of warm blood.
The bright red blood splattered all over Scar's face!
Scar: "."
"You! Get ready to say your last words," Scar said coldly, wiping the blood from his face.
He was no longer just a scar-faced man; he was now a scar-faced man who had embraced the language of power!
He quietly muttered to himself, "Preparation leads to success; lack of preparation leads to failure. You should've been ready to kill or be killed from the start."
Scar lifted the small knife high and aimed for Arlis's neck.
Faced with a threat to his life over a mere disagreement, Arlis grew truly frightened, his face paling.
Had he been out of touch with how things worked for too long?
How had the petty criminals of Azkaban become so ruthless?
He thought he hadn't said anything offensive!
Why was this guy so unreasonable?
As he saw the knife's sharp tip poised to stab his neck, Arlis made a split-second decision, channeling all his strength into his legs, and then sprang into action.
"Thud!"
With a loud thud, Arlis dropped to his knees.
"Leader, I was wrong!"
Yes, faced with the brink of death, Arlis ultimately chose to submit.
After all, he was a powerful dark wizard; if he fell to a nobody like Scar, wouldn't that be a colossal loss?
