Happry Potter: The New Player

Chapter 12: A Hero's Welcome

Evan was not concerned about being expelled.

This is the benefit of knowing the plot unless it changes; he didn't have to worry about anything.

When he saw Snape's face, he knew that Snape's hatred was at its peak, which was a shame.

He was interested in Professor Snape and the potions class. But from the current situation, he knew that if he stayed close to Harry, he would also be scorned by Snape.

While trying to think of how to prevent Snape from despising him, Professor Dumbledore entered.

Evan looked curiously at the current greatest wizard in the magical world, an elderly man with a silver beard.

He had to admit that Dumbledore had a very imposing temperament.

Dumbledore's gaze was unusually serious, watching them with a pair of eyes filled with silent reproach.

"Please, explain why you did this."

Under Dumbledore's gaze, both Harry and Ron paled, as if they had been beaten almost to the point of death.

Harry looked down at his knees, describing everything that happened. It was very detailed, but he didn't mention that it was Mr. Weasley's car; he made it seem like they were on a street in London and simply stumbled upon a flying car.

Evan was sure that Dumbledore would notice.

Evan observed Dumbledore's expression, but then he saw Dumbledore suddenly wink at him. Evan did not act like a child in trouble.

"Professor, you cannot expel Evan. He wanted to send a message to the school with Hedwig; it's all my fault, I dragged him into the car," said Harry dejectedly.

"And I started the car. Evan had nothing to do with this; we'll take the blame," said Ron.

"What are you talking about, Weasley?" shouted Professor McGonagall.

"We are being expelled, aren't we?" said Ron.

"Not today, Mr. Weasley," said Dumbledore, "But I must make you understand the seriousness of your actions, so I will write to your parents tonight, and I also warn you that if you do this again, I will expel you."

Snape's face looked like a child who was told Christmas was canceled. Snape cleared his throat and said, "Professor Dumbledore, these students ignored the rules and used magic outside of school, causing serious damage to the Whomping Willow, so the behavior of these students should be punished."

"Not quite. After hearing Harry's story, it's obvious that Mr. Mason had nothing to do with this. As for the other two," Dumbledore said calmly, "Let McGonagall decide their punishment; they are students from her house, she is responsible."

"I must return to the feast." He turned to Professor McGonagall and said, "Mr. Mason needs to be sorted into a house, and I have several things to announce."

"But, Professor," said Snape.

"Come, Severus, there is a splendid cream cake I must return to."

Evan followed Professor Snape and Dumbledore to the Great Hall; once there, Dumbledore rose to speak, the originally bustling and lively hall suddenly fell into complete silence.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at Evan, who stood in front of the teachers' seats, trying to see his face clearly.

Evan was nervous; the feeling of being watched by everyone was dreadful, and then he heard murmuring around him.

"Look, it's the boy who was missing!"

"He's all bloody, was he in a fight with a monster?"

"Didn't you read today's Daily Prophet?"

"A flying car sounds fantastic!"

"I barely heard the ghost say they crashed into the Whomping Willow."

The chatter continued, and after a while, Evan stopped paying attention to what they were saying. He saw Snape take out the Sorting Hat and walk towards a chair.

"Evan Masson," Snape said with a somber face.

Due to Professor McGonagall's absence, he had to take charge of the sorting ceremony and placed the Sorting Hat on Evan's head.

The Great Hall fell into silence in the next instant.

"Ah," Evan heard a subtle yet sharp voice, "a late newcomer, very intelligent, very talented, not bad at all; you should go to Ravenclaw, where quick minds, where those of wit and wisdom, will always find their kind."

Evan nodded, Ravenclaw was a good choice.

Rumor had it that Ravenclaw had its own library, with many unpublished books inside that could help one learn faster. And Rowena Ravenclaw was deeply knowledgeable about soul magic, leaving notes that could be useful in the fight against Voldemort.

"But I've just learned about you," continued the Sorting Hat turning on Evan's head, "all the years I've been here, I haven't seen any newcomer register in such an impressive manner; courage, I believe Gryffindor might be more suitable for you."

Without waiting for Evan's opinion, the Sorting Hat energetically shouted, "Gryffindor!"

Snape removed the Sorting Hat and glared fiercely at Evan.

He couldn't recall how he ended up at the Gryffindor table after hearing the thunderous applause, it was as if he had become a hero.

"Brilliant," said a boy as he stood up and shook Evan's hand, whom Evan recognized as the twins' friend, Lee Jordan. "What a wonderful way to arrive at school! People will talk about this for years, flying to school in a car and crashing into the Whomping Willow."

The Gryffindor table was very festive, and many seniors he had never heard of approached Evan to greet him.

A few seconds later, Fred and George sneaked in and asked, "Why didn't you call us to go with you?"

Evan didn't know how to respond, but fortunately, they were interrupted by a blond boy carrying a camera.

"Hello Evan, my name is Colin Creevey and like you, I'm new this year." Colin was quick and a bit shy, "I heard you and Harry Potter came to school in a car, it's amazing, can I take a picture of you?"

Colin took the camera and aimed it at Evan.

"No problem!"

However, before Evan could pose, the person in front of him changed to Hermione, who resembled the stern Percy, looking displeased.

"It's ridiculous that you didn't take the school train," Hermione's tone was almost as severe as McGonagall's, "Did you really fly to school?"

"Yes, Hermione," Evan said nodding cautiously.

"How dare you..." Hermione began to grumble.

Fortunately, it didn't last long, the person in front of Evan changed to Ginny, who sighed in relief.

"Ginny, won't you be like Hermione?"

"Don't blame Hermione, she was worried when she didn't see you on the train," Ginny asked with a concerned expression, "And Ron and Harry?"

"They're fine," said Evan as he put pudding on his plate, "We'll talk later; for now, let me eat something, you know I haven't eaten anything in a while."

Before he could bring the pudding to his mouth, the food in front of him disappeared, as if it had never existed in the first place, dinner was over.

"Oh no," Evan said as he slumped in his chair.
