Chapter 57: Chapter 57 - VS Johzenji (Part3)
"Hinata-kun! So handsome!" shouted a girl.
"We're finally going to see him serve!" said another girl excitedly.
"Go, Hinata! Crush them and aim for that playboy who was bothering Kiyoko-san!" cheered Tanaka.
"Hey! I can hear you, and if you want to send it my way, go ahead! I'll stop those serves one way or another!" said Terushima.
"Don't listen to that idiot Tanaka-san. It's obvious that blond guy is one of their best receivers. Then again, what's the point of warning them about it?" sighed Tsukishima.
"Well, I was planning to focus on power serves without worrying about direction, but now I can't back down from a challenge..." said Hinata, walking toward the serving position.
"I'm not sure Hinata should focus on these rivalries in the middle of the tournament..." said Takeda.
"Well, he's still our ace and always does what I ask. I think he's earned our trust!" said Ukai.
"Alright! Take this!" said Hinata as he deliberately aimed at Terushima at the back of the court. The ball flew at an impressive speed, hitting Terushima's wrist and bouncing away.
"Wow, Hinata-kun is so cool!" said one of the girls.
"Look at that! Why didn't you learn to serve like that instead of using float serves back in high school? Maybe we could've made it to nationals," complained Takinoue from the stands.
"Actually, you were the one who liked jump serves, so you should've learned to serve like that, you bastard!" replied Shimada.
"Of course! Whenever I asked you to stay late or come early to practice receiving my serves, you always refused!" said Takinoue, reviving old grudges.
"That would've been a good idea..." sighed Michimiya, catching the attention of her teammates who were cheering for the boys' team.
"What would've been a good idea?" asked Aihara, confused.
"Ever since that guy joined the boys' team, I've known he had an incredible serve... If I had asked Sawamura to get him to teach me something like that, we might've gone further..." Michimiya sighed.
"Well, if I could ask him for anything, it'd be his phone number, hehe," Aihara said with a mischievous smile.
After jumping and hitting the ball, aiming at Terushima again, Hinata watched as the ball struck Terushima's arms and flew away.
"Damn it! This is getting annoying!" thought Terushima.
"That's what you get for provoking someone without thinking of the consequences, you idiot!" said Okudake.
"But I didn't even say anything!" complained Terushima.
"You don't need to. It's all over your dumb face when things aren't going your way," teased Okudake.
"Alright, alright! Just let me focus here!" said Terushima.
"We already knew number ten's serve would be a problem... but seeing it happen is brutal. Taking that and staying composed is tough," sighed Anabara, Johzenji's coach, as he watched his team lose five points in a row.
"Enough! This is ridiculous! I won't keep being humiliated like this!" thought Terushima, planting his feet firmly and positioning himself perfectly as he noticed the ball flying his way.
"It's mine!" yelled Terushima, making the reception and falling on his butt.
"Finally, you did it!" said Futamata, smiling as he set the ball for Higashiyama, who jumped and faced a solo block from Daichi, breaking through to score a point for his team.
"THAT'S IT!" cheered Higashiyama.
"About time!" said Okudake, offering a hand to help Terushima up.
"Shut up! I'd like to see you deal with that!" grumbled Terushima.
Futamata served, sending the ball toward Hinata.
"This one's mine!" said Hinata calmly, passing to Kageyama, who decided on a quick set to Tanaka. Tanaka ran, jumped, and hit a cross shot toward Johzenji's court.
"Not so fast, baldy!" said Terushima, predicting the ball's trajectory and positioning himself to make the reception.
"Looks like I've gotten better at receiving after being bombarded nonstop," said Terushima, watching the ball fly to Futamata, who delayed his step slightly before sprinting. As he approached the ball, he pretended to jump but ran aside, leaving Bobata to leap and spike the ball into Karasuno's court without a block.
"What kind of play is that?" sighed Daichi.
"DID THAT BASTARD JUST CALL ME BALD?" yelled Tanaka.
"So you're not bald?" asked Tsukishima.
"Hey! You can't say anything; you didn't even jump to block that guy's attack," said Tanaka.
"Hmph! It's hard to read plays when those guys play like drunk idiots," complained Tsukishima.
"That's just an excuse!" Tanaka snapped.
"Alright, just shut up and watch," said Tsukishima.
Futamata served again, and the same play unfolded. But this time, Bobata tried to modify it, faking a spike and tipping the ball over Karasuno's block. However, Tsukishima read the play, calmly pushing the ball back into Johzenji's court.
"Hmph! As if I couldn't block those chaotic idiots," Tsukishima scoffed, adjusting his glasses.
After Karasuno scored, Tanaka served, unintentionally sending the ball to Tsuchiyu, who easily received it and passed to Futamata.
"Alright! Let's do that one!" said Terushima, now in position four, calling for the ball.
"Got it!" said Futamata, smiling as he set a quick ball for Terushima. Terushima spiked cross-court, just outside Karasuno's block.
"Now they're copying our plays?" asked Takeda.
"Seems like it," Ukai said, slightly annoyed.
"COME ON! We need to make up for those points we lost to that guy's serve. We can still win! GIVE IT EVERYTHING!" shouted Okudake, rallying the team.
"YES!" they shouted in unison.
Despite the initial struggle with Johzenji's chaotic plays, Karasuno won the first set 25-17.
