Chapter 18: 18. The Letter
Stannon opened the door and took the letter from the knight standing guard. He nodded to the man before closing the door behind him. With a curious look, he sat down on his bed and carefully unfolded the letter.
The handwriting was bold and unmistakable—it was from his father, King Robert Baratheon. As he read through the letter, Stannon could practically hear his voice in the words, full of emotion and gruff affection.

"Stannon, my boy,
I hope this letter finds you well. I miss you more than words can say, and I think of you often. It's strange, not having you here with me at court, but I know you're where you belong, growing strong and learning what you need to. I know you're being trained well in Winterfell, but I do wish you'd take up the warhammer instead of that blasted sword. A warhammer is what I used, and it's a weapon that can truly shake a man's bones. But I know you, you'll follow your heart, even if it's not always where I think it should be.
I wish I could be there with you to see your progress, to watch you train, to see you grow into a fine man. There's a heaviness in my heart every time I think of how fast you're growing. It feels like only yesterday you were a little lad, and now you're already training with swords and learning the ways of battle. I know you're becoming the warrior I've always hoped for, but don't forget, it's not all about strength and skill—it's about being wise, too.
As for the dragons, I've heard that there are rumors of eggs being spotted in the east, but so far, no one has had any luck finding them. I can't help but feel that it's only a matter of time before we find one, but for now, we wait. I'll send word when we learn more, and hopefully, you'll be back in King's Landing soon, so we can talk about it in person.
Take care of yourself, my son. Know that you are always in my thoughts.
Your father,
Robert Baratheon

Stannon set the letter down and let out a sigh. Warhammer was a good weapon no doubt, but he really liked using swords.
'Its been four freaking years...when would they be able to find one,' Stannon wondered.
Four years before, when Ser Barriston Selmy left, Stannon had given him a letter with him for Robert where he had told the gift he had wanted for his seventh name day, which was a dragon egg. Although in the whole show there were only three dragons shown, it didn't erase the fact that their might be more dragon eggs out there and with the incredible power of the dragons, Stannon definitely wanted one.
'Is Varys trying to interfere the search or what?' Stannon knew that during this time Varys was definitely laying groundwork for Daenerys to take over throne sometime in future or at least he might have considered her as a potential candidate.
Still he wasn't so sure, as his existence might have changed that. However he was sure that if he made any spill like Joffery did, Varys would definitely full on support Daenerys to become the Queen of seven kingdoms.
He really needed to know on whose side did Varys currently stood. But knowing that man, he knew Varys liked to play a long game. He would wait and observe and then decide. The man had no loyalty to the kings, but only to the realm.
'If I get his support as early as possible, it will definitely make things easier for me,' Stannon knew that but he couldn't come up with a plan to prove his worth to that baldy.
Moreover according to the timeline it was not far off, maybe a few months and Littlefinger would be assigned as a Master of Coin.
And once this was done, it would be officially a start of the kingdom slowly drowning in debt. He couldn't remember the exact amount but it definitely was more than 4-5 millions.
If possible he really wanted to stop him from being assigned to such position, but that was not possible. As Littlefinger had proven his capabilities to the council and Jon Arryn himself had decided to appoint him.
'Maybe I can tell Jon that Littlefinger is manipulating his wife and had already embezzled a lot of the funds of his house? Shall I tell him about their affair too? But what about the proof? How would Jon beleive what he said? Hmm....is it the time to use the 'God warning me in dreams' feature ?' Stannon wondered.
Stannon knew that waiting any longer would only be in the favour of Littlefinger as he would slowly widen his influence all over the seven kingdoms and the damage done by him would be far greater at that time.
Currently the finger guy was not as strong as he would be in seven years, at the start of the Season 1. So stopping him now would be the right decision. Not just stopping him....but he should also be killed.
Stannon from watching various shows and movies knew that these type of people only lived for themselves and were the type that couldn't be controlled at all. They might give you a false sense of loyalty and would betray you again when you least expect it.
'What should I do? What should I do?' Stannon questioned himself against and again.
Stannon's thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. He hesitated for a moment, his hand still holding the letter, before he pushed his worries aside and stood.
"Sorry to disturb you, my prince," came the voice from outside, polite but formal. "Lord Stark has requested your presence."
Stannon burned the letter in the fireplace before walking to the door. He opened it to find two knights standing there. He nodded to them, and they stepped aside, letting him pass.
He'd heard the second one coming, but he didn't pay much attention—it was just part of life at Winterfell. What caught his attention, though, was that Ned had returned earlier than expected from the hunt. It was unusual, and it made Stannon wonder what was going on.
Following the knight down the hall, they eventually reached Ned's chambers. The knight knocked on the door and announced, "His grace, Stannon Baratheon has arrived."
"Let him in," Ned's voice came from inside.
The door opened, and Stannon stepped in. He first saw Ned sitting at a desk, looking welcoming as always. But what surprised him was the man sitting across from Ned—Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King. The moment their eyes met, Jon's face softened with a warm look.
"Stannon, my boy," Jon said with affection, "It's good to see you. I've heard much about your training."
"It good to see you too, Lord Hand," Stannon replied.
"Ah, where's the boy who used to call me 'Uncle' and always followed me around asking for stories? Where's he gone?" Jon chuckled, his voice full of fond memories.
"That boy is long gone," he replied, his eyes narrowing. "When the so-called 'Uncle' didn't even come to say goodbye when I left King's Landing."
Jon's face dropped for a moment, but he quickly recovered and laughed heartily. "Oh, Stannon, I've apologized for that many times in my letters," he said, regret in his voice. "And now I've come in person to make up for it. Can you forgive me this time?"
Stannon didn't reply quickly. The old Stannon had a close bond with Jon, almost like family. He had even ranked Jon third on his list of most loved people, with Robert at the top and Cersei second. Of course the list had been now rearranged after the current Stannon was transmigrated, with Cersei being kicked out of that list.
Stannon looked at Jon's expectant face. He didn't hold any grudges against Jon, but he still had to play the role of the hurt child.
After a long pause, he finally spoke,"Since you've come all this way… I guess I'll forgive you."
Jon smiled more gently, a bit of relief in his eyes. "You are kind to forgive me, my boy," he said with a nod, though the unspoken guilt still remained in his tone.
'Is this some sort of sign. I was just thinking about revealing Littlefinger's true nature to Jon and now here he is.' A thought suddenly entered his mind.
Stannon wondered if he should use the "dreams feature" to convince Jon not to appoint Littlefinger as Master of Coin. He could tell Jon he had a dream from the gods warning about Littlefinger, showing the kingdom falling into chaos and debt because of him.
Jon was a reasonable man but also believed in the gods, so he might take such a warning seriously. But Stannon knew it was risky—if Jon asked for proof and found nothing, it could make Stannon look foolish or untrustworthy.
But Stannon too had a few things that he knew from watching the show that could back his claim and with Ned here, he would also help in convincing Jon.
He finally cleared his mind, the decision made.
