Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Purifying the Root
In the deepest part of The Chasm, Qiu Bai stood before the swirling black mist and immediately took action.
Summoning his Yang Incarnation, the white-clad Qiu Bai pressed his hands together, releasing a brilliant white light from between his palms.
The light shone as brightly as the sun, illuminating the entire underground space.
Under its radiance, the dark energy surrounding the ancient tree writhed as if it were burning.
Moments later, all the black mist—along with the corruption embedded in the tree's roots—was completely purified.
The tree regained its vitality, its once withered branches now sprouting lush green leaves. The dense network of roots, once dark and tainted, now pulsed with vibrant life.
Raising his hand, the white-clad Qiu Bai sent a glowing orb of white light above the ancient tree, casting a soft luminescence across the underground cavern.
Looking around, the scene before him bore an uncanny resemblance to Enkanomiya bathed in daylight.
"With this, the matter is resolved."
Retracting his Yang Incarnation, Qiu Bai turned and departed from The Chasm.
...
Moments later, a portal flickered open, and two Abyss Heralds emerged.
Had Qiu Bai still been there, he would have been shocked.
Isn't that Abyss Lector Enjou? He's always a pain to deal with in the game.
The two Abyss Heralds stood frozen before the now-purified ancient tree, their expressions filled with disbelief.
"The power of the Abyss, combined with the Black Calamity… How was it suddenly cleansed?"
"Even the black corruption that the Archon Geo himself couldn't dispel—fused with the Abyss' strength—was completely wiped out."
Looking around at the now-transformed space, the Heralds couldn't help but feel a deep sense of frustration. Years of careful planning had been undone in an instant.
"It seems we'll need to rethink our approach."
"For now, let's return and report this to His Highness."
With that, the two Abyss Heralds vanished into another portal. Had they lingered any longer, the God of Rock would have surely sensed their presence.
...
Abyss Order Headquarters
Seated upon a grand throne, Aether reflected on his recent encounter with his sister.
"Lumine… We will meet again, but not yet."
"Before the Abyss engulfs the Divine Seat, I still have unfinished business with Celestia."
At that moment, he felt a disturbance and looked ahead as two Abyss Heralds stepped through a swirling void.
"Your Highness, the Black Calamity beneath The Chasm has been purified."
"We do not know who was responsible, but our plans…"
The two Abyss Heralds knelt before Aether, heads bowed, as they delivered their report.
"That corruption was beyond even our control."
"Centuries ago, we infused it with the power of the Abyss, yet it was still purified."
Aether pondered for a moment. None of the Seven seemed to possess the ability to cleanse such an affliction.
"Whoever did this… must be at least on par with the Seven."
"For now, put that plan on hold. Our focus should shift to Enkanomiya in Inazuma."
His gaze swept across the Abyss Heralds gathered in the hall, and after a brief silence, he made his decision.
"Enjou, head to Enkanomiya."
"You must complete the mission."
A figure stepped forward from the hall's shadows, kneeling on one knee.
"I understand, Your Highness. I will not fail."
With that, Enshou disappeared into the void.
Aether turned his gaze to the distant horizon and murmured softly to himself.
"We will reunite, Lumine."
"That day is not far off."
...
Liyue Harbor
Meanwhile, at Liyue Harbor, Qiu Bai spotted Zhongli listening intently to a storyteller and couldn't help but grow curious.
Zhongli noticed him and gave a small nod of acknowledgment.
Qiu Bai walked over and sat beside him.
"Zhongli," he said, pouring himself a cup of tea.
"You actually have time to sit and listen to stories?"
Zhongli chuckled. "Tian Tiezui's storytelling is quite entertaining."
"Though most of his tales aren't entirely accurate, today's story happens to be about you."
He looked at Qiu Bai with a hint of mystery, piquing Qiu Bai's interest.
Curious to hear what was being said, he settled into his chair.
At that moment, Tian Tiezui raised his folding fan, holding it against his chest as he began his tale.
"In ancient Liyue, a flood as mighty as the heavens themselves descended upon Guili Plains!
The Adepti, alongside the Archon Geo, protected the people as they retreated to Liyue Harbor.
Just then, from the distant horizon, a terrifying force shot toward the sky!
The Lord of Rock searched high and low, until he finally found a lone figure standing within a secluded valley…"
Back then, he was known as the Yin-Yang Immortal Lord. As the saying goes, "No discord, no concord."
The Lord of Rock and the Immortal Lord battled fiercely for 300 rounds, shaking both heaven and earth! Mountains trembled, and the land quaked beneath their might.
In the end, the Immortal Lord fell into a temporary disadvantage, and from that clash, the two deities became close friends.
Seeing the suffering of the people below—battered by fierce storms and tormented by illness—the Immortal Lord couldn't bear it any longer.
With a surge of divine power, he scattered the dark clouds in the sky and quelled the raging winds!
It was then that a storyteller stepped forward, gazing in admiration at the Immortal Lord, and bestowed upon him the title: The Yin-Yang Immortal Lord.
Tian Tiezui snapped his folding fan shut as the gathered crowd erupted into cheers, showering him with generous rewards.
...
"That's not how it happened at all. I barely lasted a few moves against you," Qiu Bai muttered, looking a little embarrassed as he turned to Zhongli.
It would make sense if, now, he could hold his own against Zhongli for 300 rounds.
But back then? He had only exchanged a few blows before Zhongli effortlessly overpowered him. If Zhongli hadn't held back, Qiu Bai might not even be here today.
"Haha, old friend, why be so modest?"
"I'd say that now, your power is no longer beneath mine."
Zhongli took a slow sip of tea, his golden gaze meeting Qiu Bai's.
"The black mist beneath The Chasm—I've completely purified it."
"I don't know where it came from, but I went ahead and turned that place into a tourist attraction."
Qiu Bai wasn't exaggerating. The landscape there was now breathtaking.
Especially with the small artificial sun he had placed, giving it the appearance of an underground world bathed in light.
"Even so, that does not mean the people of Liyue should freely set foot there."
"The area extends deep into Liyue's ley lines. I have sealed it once more."
Zhongli regarded Qiu Bai with a trace of surprise.
It hadn't been long since he left, yet he had already resolved an issue that even Zhongli himself had struggled with.
Back then, Zhongli had used every divine power at his disposal and still couldn't find a solution. Meanwhile, Qiu Bai had managed to fix everything in just a few moves.
Then again, it wasn't entirely unexpected—his old friend had always been an enigma.
...
Jueyun Karst
Amidst the clouds, the Adepti soared across the skies, searching far and wide for the missing Immortal Lord.
After half a day, they reconvened at Jueyun Karst.
"Where in the world have you gone, Immortal Lord?"
Cloud Retainer, now in her human form, gazed into the distance and murmured, deep in thought.
"Perhaps the Immortal Lord has already awakened and simply decided to go out and take a look?"
Mountain Shaper suggested from behind.
"You old fool! Just yesterday, the Immortal Lord was still in slumber."
"Are you telling me he just woke up out of nowhere, without any warning?!"
Qiu Bai: Is there a possibility… that I actually did?
Cloud Retainer shot Mountain Shaper a glare and scolded,
"You all head back first. I will continue searching."
Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper exchanged helpless glances before ultimately deciding to follow Cloud Retainer.
They weren't giving up just yet—the search for the Immortal Lord would continue.
But where could he have gone?
Could he have actually been… stolen?
