Genshin Impact: I'm just a mortal

Chapter 224: Chapter 223: Save Yourself, Save Others

The breakfast table was lively, yet oddly quiet.

The five of them sat around the table, and the atmosphere was, of course, subtle.

Yuxie's gaze swept across the other four, and from their eyes, he could see various expressions.

Everyone quietly ate their breakfast, with no conversation.

The atmosphere wasn't necessarily unusual, but it did feel a bit too heavy.

Yuxie wanted to start a conversation, but couldn't think of anything.

"What are your plans, Miss Rosalyne?" Kitsune Saiguu spoke up at that moment.

When Rosalyne heard Kitsune Saiguu asking her, she paused for a moment before putting down her chopsticks.

"Once the storm passes, I plan to leave Inazuma and head back to Mondstadt first. After that... I don't have many plans yet. I'll take it step by step. I still have many mistakes to make up for."

After speaking, Rosalyne's gaze fell on Yuxie.

This small detail was naturally noticed by Kitsune Saiguu, Yae Miko, and Shen He.

Some things seemed hard to say in such a situation, but what if only Yuxie were here?

Then, Miss Rosalyne's words might have been different, wouldn't they? No, something needed to be done.

The thoughts of the three were surprisingly in sync at this moment.

"Yuxie, you're planning to stay in Inazuma for a while, right?" Kitsune Saiguu then asked Yuxie.

Yuxie didn't think much about it and nodded. "The war between the Shogunate and Watatsumi Island hasn't ended yet. If possible, I'd like to do something within my abilities."

"Makoto and Ei would definitely be happy to hear you say that," Kitsune Saiguu said.

"I think so too, but maybe we should avoid discussing war topics at the breakfast table," Yae Miko interjected, using her chopsticks to place a fried egg into Yuxie's bowl. "Here, eat more. You need to take in more nutrition."

Seeing Yae Miko's actions, Kitsune Saiguu glanced at her with an expression that seemed to be a resigned smile.

It felt like Yae Miko had beaten her to the punch.

After a moment's thought, how could she let a younger one get ahead of her?

So, Kitsune Saiguu picked up the fried egg from her bowl and gave it to Yuxie. "Yuxie, actually, I'm not fond of fried eggs. Could you help me finish this?"

Upon hearing this, Yae Miko paused slightly.

Clearly, she hadn't expected Kitsune Saiguu to pass her food to Yuxie like that. This move took her by surprise.

As for Yuxie, he silently stared at the two fried eggs in his bowl.

"Ah, Lord Kitsune Saiguu, you're already this grown up and still don't like fried eggs? This is the first time I've heard of it," Yae Miko said. "Fried eggs are actually really tasty, being picky isn't good, you know?"

Upon hearing this, Kitsune Saiguu felt a bit more resigned.

She understood Yae Miko's personality—quite similar to her own.

Sometimes, it was hard to describe.

Perhaps it also had to do with the fact that Yae Miko had been following her since she was young.

But what surprised her was that the little pink-haired fox from back then had now grown up, in every way.

Thinking of this, Kuzaiomiya let out a small sigh and gave Yae Miko a glance.

Few people could suppress Yae Miko, and from what she remembered, even in front of Ei, Yae Miko's personality was always lively and unpredictable, often saying things that were quite surprising.

But after Kitsune Saiguu's look, Yae Miko seemed to calm down a lot.

She gave an awkward smile and said, "Alright, alright, it's not a big deal to be a little picky with food sometimes."

The breakfast ended in this kind of atmosphere. After finishing his meal, Yuxie couldn't quite remember what exactly he ate, only that his bowl was never empty.

Throughout the meal, Shenhe and Rosalyne didn't say much. Shenhe's personality was like that, and Rosalyne likely still felt like she couldn't quite fit in just yet.

After all, not long ago, she was still a member of the Fatui.

After breakfast, Yae Miko left the residence, as the current shrine maiden of the Grand Narukami Shrine should naturally return to the shrine on a workday.

Although Kitsune Saiguu was no longer the shrine maiden, she would occasionally handle certain matters of the Grand Narukami Shrine, so she went to the shrine with Yae Miko.

Rosalyne went to the back of the residence, where she could see the sea.

She leaned quietly against the railing, gazing out at the view of the sea, staying silent for a long time.

Now that she had left the Fatui, she was no longer "The Fair Lady"—she could once again be herself.

Whether she could truly return to the life she once had, Rosalyne wasn't sure, but she was willing to try. She wanted to redeem herself and atone for her sins.

Once the storm passed, she would leave here and do what she could—save herself, and also save others.

However... if only... if only Yuxie could be by her side.

"Miss Rosalyne?" Shenhe's voice pulled Rosalyne out of her thoughts. She turned around and saw Shenhe standing beside her.

"Miss Shenhe, what's the matter?"

"I heard from Yuxie that you were once an innocent girl, a girl whose singing was incredibly moving." Shenhe walked over to the railing and, like Rosalyne before, gazed out at the distant sea.

Rosalyne fell silent for a moment. "That was a long time ago. Back then, I was still in Mondstadt, and hadn't gone through those calamities…"

"Calamities can change a person, but some people, even after enduring hardship, still retain a piece of their original innocence," Shenhe said. "This is something my master once told me. I believe, deep down inside Miss Rosalyne, there has always been a piece of that innocence from the past."

"W-Why do you say that?" Rosalyne stammered.

It was true. Since meeting Yuxie again, she had let go of many things, no longer as proud as she once was. But when it came to the word "innocence," Rosalyne felt she was now far removed from it.

Her heart had once been filled with hatred, once full of arrogance and prejudice.

A person like that was long removed from innocence.

"From your eyes, I seem to see a girl who loves to sing," Shenhe said slowly.

Rosalyne fell silent again. After a long while, she spoke softly: "Miss Shenhe, have you always been like this? When you don't speak, it's fine, but when you do, you touch people's hearts."

"I'm just speaking my mind," Shenhe paused. "But saving others is easy, saving oneself is hard. If Miss Rosalyne wants redemption, there's still a long road ahead."

"I will redeem myself properly. Otherwise, I would be betraying everything Yuxie has done for me," Rosalyne said, suddenly giving a soft smile.

The wind blew through the estate, carrying with it a few pink cherry blossoms. Shenhe and Rosalyne leaned against the railing, their long hair fluttering.

At a corner nearby, Yuxie quietly watched this scene, offering a faint smile.
