Chapter 207: Chapter 206: First Meeting
(Flashback)
Today was a gloomy and rainy day. The sky was overcast, and it looked like it could rain at any moment.
The weather wasn't ideal for going out, but after some thought, Rosalyne decided to leave her house, not even bothering to bring an umbrella. She walked straight out of Mondstadt, planning to clear her mind with a stroll outside the city.
On the way, acquaintances warned her that it might rain soon and advised her not to wander too far.
Rosalyne smiled politely but continued on her way.
The scenery outside the city was quite different from its usual sunny charm, as if veiled by a misty shroud.
She followed the path leisurely, enjoying the solitude.
Rosalyne loved moments like these when she could walk alone at a slow pace, finding a sense of inner freedom. Despite the dreary weather, her spirit felt lighter.
Unintentionally, she arrived at Starsnatch Cliff.
This was a popular spot for couples in Mondstadt. Its high elevation made it feel as though one could pluck the stars from the sky at night, hence its name.
Couples often came here to admire the breathtaking view and make lifelong promises to one another.
Rosalyne appreciated the scenery here, though as a single woman, she always felt out of place surrounded by couples when she visited.
But today, under such weather, not a single couple could be seen.
Of course, in such gloomy conditions, it was unlikely anyone would come here for a date.
Rosalyne walked to the cliff's edge, sat down, and stared at the distant view, lost in thought.
Being alone isn't so bad, she thought to herself.
The cool breeze brushed against her face, stirring her golden hair and fluttering her clothes.
She closed her eyes, savoring the tranquility of solitude and the soothing winds of Starsnatch Cliff.
"Excuse me, miss. Is this Starsnatch Cliff? Could you tell me how to get to Springvale?" A voice suddenly broke through her peace.
Though her quiet time was interrupted, and despite feeling slightly annoyed, Rosalyne decided to help since it was just someone asking for directions.
She opened her eyes and turned to see a young man around her age, slightly taller than her.
"This is Starsnatch Cliff. Springvale is over that way. Just head down and follow the main road," Rosalyne replied.
"Oh, I see. Thank you." The man hesitated, then added, "But miss, it looks like it's going to rain soon. Are you sure you'll be alright staying here?"
"I'll be fine," Rosalyne said.
Satisfied with her response, the man didn't press further and turned to leave.
Rosalyne returned her gaze to the distance, immersing herself in her thoughts once more.
The clouds in the sky grew heavier.
A clap of thunder rumbled, signaling that rain was indeed imminent.
But Rosalyne was prepared to get wet. Getting caught in the rain every now and then didn't seem so bad.
The first drops began to fall—one, two—then quickly multiplied.
Rosalyne closed her eyes, tilted her head up, and let the raindrops hit her face. It didn't hurt but instead brought a calming stillness to her heart.
For a moment, it felt like the noise of the world around her had faded away, leaving only her true self.
But as the rain soaked her clothes, Rosalyne began to feel a chill.
It's time to head back, she thought.
Just as she was about to stand up, she realized that the rain no longer fell on her.
Looking up slowly, she saw the young man from earlier standing beside her, holding an umbrella.
The man's clothes were already partially soaked from the rain.
"You… why did you come back?" Rosalyne asked, standing up.
"When I reached Springvale, the rain started. I thought you might still be here without an umbrella, so I borrowed one from a resident and came back," the man replied.
"But we've only just met. Why would you…" Rosalyne trailed off, looking at the young man.
"You helped me with directions. Without you, I might still be wandering aimlessly," he said with a smile.
"What if you came back and found that I'd already left? Wouldn't it have been a wasted trip?"
"That's fine. At least it would mean you'd already returned safely, right?"
Rosalyne fell silent. She felt that this man was somehow different from others.
Due to her striking looks and talents, Rosalyne had no shortage of admirers, all of whom she had turned down.
She had no curiosity about romance, preferring to enjoy her time alone.
But today, she found herself feeling a sliver of curiosity about the young man in front of her.
"Um… I'm Rosalyne. What's your name?"
"Me? I'm Yu Xie."
......
Perhaps it was because Yu Xie mentioned the name "Rostam" that Rosalyne's mind wandered back to that distant memory, recalling the moment of their first meeting.
Even after hundreds of years, every detail of that encounter was still vivid in her mind—the rain, the wind, and that small spark of curiosity.
"Yu Xie… Did you ask about this because you've remembered something from back then?"
"Not exactly. I still don't remember much, but I just wanted to know more…" Yu Xie replied vaguely, unsure how to explain himself.
"Hmm…" Rosalyne nodded, deep in thought. "Rostam… That was your name in Mondstadt. I was the one who gave it to you."
Yu Xie froze in place, feeling a torrent of emotions.
"Yu Xie, are you okay?" Rosalyne asked, noticing his silence and growing concerned.
"Oh, I'm fine." Yu Xie snapped back to reality, smiling wryly.
He hadn't expected things to turn out this way.
Looking at Rosalyne, his expression suddenly became serious.
"Rosalyne, tell me your plan."
"What?" Rosalyne was taken aback.
"Tell me what you're planning next," Yu Xie said, stepping closer and looking directly into her eyes.
"I…" Rosalyne hesitated. She didn't want Yu Xie to get involved in the affairs of the Fatui.
"Don't you trust me, Rosalyne?"
"It's not that… I just don't want you to be dragged into trouble or danger," Rosalyne said, her gaze wavering.
"What if I say I insist on being involved?" Yu Xie didn't hesitate, placing his hands on Rosalyne's shoulders and meeting her eyes with unwavering resolve.
Feeling the firmness of his grip, Rosalyne trembled slightly. Even such a small gesture made her heartbeat quicken uncontrollably.
But she remained hesitant.
"Yu Xie, I…"
