Chapter 45: A valuable Lesson (3)
While walking down the staircase, Whittaker asked with innocent curiosity,
"Shadow why did you hand her seven platinum bar?"
He didn't have even a single hint of jealousy or other negative feelings rather he was thinking whether handing out some of the total sum to the service provider is a basic courtesy of some sort. 'If it is then I messed up!" he thought.
Shadow smiled and calmly said the famous quote while walking down the staircase, "Don't judge a book by its cover."
"Eh? I am not dense but you make me feel like one~ Can you explain the reason in words I can comprehend?" Whittaker finally said what he wanted to say for a long long time, but he had been controlling himself as first, they weren't close acquaintance and later, Shadow announced his identity as a Royal!
"Pufahahah! My bad, my main profession is an appraiser, so I can't help it." He said while halting in his tracks. Clasping his hands behind his back and closing his eyes while facing the confused Whittaker Shadow said,
"Years ago, the mage king composed ten songs on life in the form of scrolls decorated with calligraphy that sings, in the first scroll he wrote, "What you see from your eyes is what the world wants to show you not what you wish to see. Use your senses to see the world, and the truth hidden beneath the veil of light and night will be exposed". It means that nothing is as simple as it may seem to be."
Shadow opened his eyes to take a look at Whittaker when he said the last sentence. "Do you understand?!!!!!!!!!! What!" Shadow saw that his dear classmate has vacant eyes. Inside of those crystal icy eyes, mana was rotating.
Surprised and shocked, Shadow mouth opened wide, so wide that it threatened to touch the ground.
He closed his eyes once again, rubbed them, and quickly opened them to take a look at Whittaker. Due to the shock he received, his eyeballs almost popped out from their sockets.
"WTF! How the hell can someone enter a state of comprehension while casually chatting with another person!" Shadow mumbled as to not disturb Whittaker. Shadow shook his head, 'The Mage King has indeed said the truth, nothing is as simple as it may seem to be,' he thought while staring at Whittaker, who had entered a state of comprehension.
Soon after, waves of mana rushed from all four sides into Whittaker body, after it was all absorbed, Whittaker's eyes opened. They shone with the light of wisdom, and he thought, 'I was too hasty in thinking that my parents had abandoned me. Maybe other factors forced them to discard me! Whatever it is, one day, I will find out!'
Whittaker was pulled out from his thought by the system notifications.
The words of the mage King worked its wonder on Whittaker. The growth he obtained thanks to mage king words was highlighted by the system notifications that filled his vision.
[Guardian has entered a state of Comprehension]
[Guardian has successfully comprehended a certain truth of life]
[Intelligent increased: 16»21]
[Mana point increased: 160»210. Total mana points 310/210]
[Mana Recovery per second increased: 8»11.5]
[Magic Defense increased: 32»42]
[Magic attack Damage increased: 16»21]
Whittaker's eyes opened as wide as a peanut. He could feel the influx of mana in his body. He has become stronger than before just because of the Mage King words. 'Hehe, my power level has increased to 1.31! Only 0.69 more and I will advance into an E-ranked mage!' he thought.
Shadow eyes had been wide opened for some time. When he saw the roommate has the same reaction as himself, he smiled and said, "Don't be surprised by the sudden increase of your powers. You entered a state of comprehension, something uncalled for during casual chatter. Are you really human?"
Whittaker nodded his head, he surely was a human, but whatever else he was, he didn't know himself.
"How much time passed?" he asked. For Whittaker, it seemed like ten hours has passed.
"A minute!" Shadow replied and starts to descend the staircase.
'In a minute, my power increased by so much?' Whittaker felt the second wave of shock, but he controlled himself and also went down the staircase.
When they reached the first floor, Whittaker asked to fulfill his reawakened curiosity, "I didn't rather couldn't hear you clearly, what did you saw in her?"
Shadow answered back while walking towards the pillar, "I saw the pain hidden beneath her eyes. I don't know what trouble she is facing nor do I need to. At least the money I gave her will help her out a little."
'So she was in trouble! I get it, she has been using her smile to hide her pain! Lastly, my guess has been verified by a 100%. Shadow can sense other people's emotions and tell the nature of a person!' Whittaker thought as they walked towards the Global Relocation System.
