Game Merchant in Remnant

Chapter 32: What you tell a guy with two broken limbs?

Shizuo quickly defended himself pointing at the bloodied bullies.

"They started it!"

"Explain, Mister Heiwajima?"

"This all started because Cardin couldn't keep his hands off Velvet, who, I should mention, wasn't interested."

The whole cafeteria gave a chorus of "His right!", all of them feeling the smugness and the excitement in the beating.

"ENOUGH!"

Shouted the well-endowed professor in rage.

"Team CRDL, will get two weeks' detention, no excuses!"

Cardin and the rest of team CRDL could barely mumble back as they angrily glared back at Shizuo, chuckling at their punishment.

"As for you, Mister Heiwajima. You are to report to the headmaster's office, immediately."

Shizuo was not overly confused about being punished despite doing the right thing. The audience, though clearly perplexed by his discipline, remained silent for fear of Glynda's wrath. Turning to his girlfriends, he saw their concern and tried to reassure them.

"Guys, it's okay. I'll probably just get a stern talking-to, and that's it. I'm not going anywhere."

His girlfriends exchanged worried glances, unable to dispel their fears for Shizuo. As he walked away, a gentle tap on his shoulder from his timid rabbit Faunus girlfriend stopped him.

"Don't worry, Velvet. It's a boyfriend's duty to protect his girl."

The bashful rabbit Faunus nodded, her cheeks flushed, as she looked up at her protective boyfriend.

"Thank you for helping me, Shizuo."

After a kiss on her lips, Velvet's blush deepened, and Shizuo continued on to his meeting with Ozpin.

-Headmaster's office, a few minutes ago-

"You're suggesting something that has a name, James. It's called 'eugenics,' and it's not well-regarded, since the last war."

Ozpin remarked, taking a sip of his coffee.

"You're aware of my reasons for this, Ozpin. Since Mr. Heiwajima showcased his destructive abilities during the televised initiation, and you've shown me footage of the young man amplifying his power to a level you said was on par with the twin gods."

"We cannot risk losing Shizuo Heiwajima, especially if there's even a slight possibility that his unique abilities could be inherited by his offspring. We must explore this opportunity, Ozpin. Salem is aware of him now, and you've informed us that her agents are heading towards Vale; they will inevitably target him."

Ozpin exhaled deeply, highlighting the flaws in James' proposal.

"James, we have no evidence to suggest that Shizuo's abilities will be hereditary; neither mine nor the Maiden's powers are."

He countered.

"Your inaction, Ozpin, cost us our only silver-eye warriors. Maria has vanished from Remnant, presumed dead. Summer had only one child before her own disappearance, and it's uncertain if Ruby possesses her mother's abilities. I also proposed a similar initiative for Summer, which you halted."

"James, such a plan would require over a decade to yield results."

Ozpin observed.

"The more reason to commence immediately, Ozpin."

James insisted, but his call was abruptly ended as someone entered through Ozpin's elevator.

"Welcome, Shizuo. Thank you for arriving. I presume you understand the purpose of your visit?"

Ozpin greeted Shizuo, unsure of his reasons for being there, yet maintained his composure as usual. The blonde Lion Faunus merely groaned and shrugged.

"It's probably because I used Cardin as a club since he was bullying one of my girlfriends, and I beat his team like I was playing whack-a-mole."

Ozpin sipped his coffee, taking in the details.

"Do you think that was an effective solution to the problem, Mr. Heiwajima?"

"Well, this is a combat school, which is probably why Cardin was given so much leeway until someone decided to teach him a lesson. It's also why the teachers didn't intervene with the bullying, expecting the students to handle it themselves, right Headmaster?"

With another sip of his coffee, Ozpin now grasped the situation and the reason for Shizuo's presence.

-----

Excitement buzzed through Beacon. For the last forty-eight hours, Shizuo's showdown and his handling of team CRDL had been the hot topic. Everyone knew about the Mini Kaiju of Vale. The student body was split; some viewed him as a violent menace, others as Vale's greatest addition. Love him or loathe him, the Lion was impossible to overlook.

The first years were now in History class with Velvet as a bonus. Shizuo waved at her and she returned it with her shy smile as he sat in his usual spot. Not long after that, Dr. Oobleck showed up and started teaching, if you call zooming around the front of the room, talking a mile a minute, and drinking coffee teaching.

They tried to follow along but it was just impossible. Most gave up on trying to follow along with the lectures, as Dr. Oobleck moved at such speed that would make a computer green in envy. This meant some had to study twice as much as the normal student but they dealt with it.

"Yes! Yes, prior to the Faunus Rights Revolution--more popularly known as the Faunus War--humankind was quite, quite adamant about centralizing Faunus population in Menagerie."

Dr. Oobleck pointed at the map of said area with his stick, then zooms off to the side for a sip of his coffee before appearing in front of the desk.

"Now! While this must feel like ancient history to many of you, it is imperative to remember that these are relatively recent events! Why, the repercussions of the uprising can still be seen to this day!"

With another zoom around the classroom, Dr. Oobleck sipped his coffee again before continuing to zoom and talk.

"Now! Have any among you been subjugated or discriminated, because of your Faunus heritage?"

Several students raise their hands, Velvet included.

"Dreadful! Remember, students, it is precisely this kind of ignorance that breeds violence! I mean, look at what happened to the White Fang! Now, which one of you young scallions can tell me what many theorize to be the turning point in the third year of the war?"

Weiss raised her hand.

"The battle at Fort Castle!"

"Precisely! And, who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagune's forces?"

Unseen by Dr. Oobleck, Cardin flicked a paper football at Jaune's head, causing him to wake up and raise his hand.

"Mr. Arc! Finally contributing! Excellent! What is the answer?"

Jaune was caught of guard as he just woke up

"Uhhhh... The answer... The advantage... that the Faunus..."

He looked behind Dr. Oobleck at Pyrrha, who coughed and motioned to her lips as she gave him the answer.

"...had over that guy's stuff..."

He saw Pyrrha cup her hands around her eyes and went for the most obvious answer.

"Uhh... Binoculars!"

While Jaune looked pleased with his answer, the class laughed at him, and Dr. Oobleck back at the front of the class took a sip of his coffee. Pyrrha sighed and slapped her forehead as Cardin pounded his fist on his desk while chortling.

"Very funny, Mr. Arc! Cardin! Perhaps you would care to share your thoughts on the subject!"

"Well, I know it's a lot easier to train an animal than a soldier."

"Mr. Winchester, Mr. Arc! Please take your seats. Both see me after class for additional readings."

The two sat down and Dr. Oobleck went back to his lecture. As the Docter shook his head Shizuo spoke with his arms crossed.

"Cardin my man. You're not the most savvy or open-minded of individuals, are you?"

"What? You got a problem?"

Cardin commented back.

"Hahaha, Nope! But Cardin, do you know what you tell a guy with two broken limbs?"

"What?!"

"Nothing because he's already been told twice. Hahaha!"

"Also, I have the answer Dr. Oobleck! It's night vision. Many of us Faunus are known to have nearly perfect sight in the dark."

Shizuo answered making Cardin growled at the correct response. Then his girlfriend Blake followed.

"General Lagune was inexperienced, and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep. His massive army was outmatched, and the general was captured. Perhaps if he'd paid attention in class, he wouldn't have been remembered as such a failure.

The response made Cardin get up from his seat, raising his clenched fist.

"Mr. Winchester! Please take your seat... You and Mr. Arc can both see me after class for additional readings."

Jaune slumped his shoulders

"Oohhhh..."

Oobleck zoomed away

"Now! Moving on!"

-After class-

"You two have been struggling in my class since day one! Now, I don't know if it's a lack of interest, or just your stubborn nature, but whatever it is... It stops now! You've worked hard to gain entrance to this school, and we only accept the best of the best, so I expect you to act like it. History is important, gentlemen! If you can't learn from it... you're destined to repeat it. Pages fifty-one to ninety-one! I want an essay on my desk by next class! Now! Run along."

With that, Dr. Oobleck zoomed out of the classroom and past a waiting Pyrrha in a green and white blur, that man was definitely not drinking coffee.

As Jaune came out of class first, he was followed by Cardin emerged behind him walking in crutches. Somehow bogging to the mind, he was able to push Jaune to the ground and emitting an "Ow!", while Cardin laughed before slowly walking away in his crutches.

As Pyrrha pulled Jaune back to his feet, she tried to comfort him.

"You know, I really will break his other leg... Oh, I have an idea! Here, come with me!

She grabbed the confused Jaune by the arm and dragged him along as she turned down the corridor.
