Chapter 538: 525 four forces
Under the rose-colored sky and atop the dark red earth, things had mysteriously become very lively. However, this liveliness was laced with hostility, whether it came from the people standing on the ground or the ships hovering in the sky. Weapons were primed, ready to fire at any neighboring person or object at any moment.
The boundaries between each group were clear, yet a few factions in this noisy, dense environment were the largest.
Bai Zhongqi and Lan Xue, having just incorporated a small faction, did not stand out much among the assorted treasure hunters, especially since, unlike many teams who had only ground and aerial vehicles, Bai Zhongqi's group had a ship. Naturally, this ship was not Bai Zhongqi's Iridium Star Ship but an F-type Warship Beast.
This ship, the size of an Interstellar Escort Ship, incorporated some technology from the Warship Dragon and also featured advancements accumulated from continuous upgrades by the Swarm. Although not large, its firepower was no weaker than the light escort ships of the past Star Alliance.
Lan Xue had never imagined having her own warship, and although Bai Zhongqi was controlling it, Lan Xue felt as if she were truly the captain, quite imposing indeed.
Carrying the "star-level treasure hunting" business on her young shoulders, Lan Xue recited facts to Bai Zhongqi, "...those deep black painted ships belong to a very famous Mercenary Corps in the Great Star Zone called Satellite Wolves. While they are called a Mercenary Corps, calling them interstellar pirates might be more fitting; they take contracts to attack anyone and even dare to meddle with civilizations. They have their own planetary bases and shipyards, their power is tremendous!"
"Those ships shaped particularly like footballs, and the people on the ground wearing gray and white uniforms, belong to the Graphite United Consortium. This is a well-known armed consortium which possesses several commercial planets and conducts trade routes for dozens of mid to lower civilizations, and they also have a quite strong fleet. Unexpectedly, they are also interested in the Golden Great Sail Ship."
These two treasure hunt participants somehow refreshed Bai Zhongqi's understanding; he knew there were non-civilizational organizations in the Galaxy, but the fact that a mercenary group or a commercial company could possess such power was indeed jaw-dropping. Other than not having their own civilizational characteristics and little upward mobility, these mercenary corps and armed business groups were stronger than many smaller civilizations.
"Those ships that look like darts belong to the Duofen Civilization. This is a Grade 17 mid-level civilization, not very well-known, but they are indeed a civilization-level participant. Unexpected, really unexpected," Lan Xue continued critically.
Bai Zhongqi asked puzzledly, "If the Golden Great Sail Ship is so valuable, why is this the only civilization sending a 'delegation'?"
Lan Xue laughed, "Because many civilizations don't believe in the existence of the Golden Great Sail Ship. This urban legend, unless seen by one's own eyes, most people wouldn't take it seriously, especially those civilizations, who deal with so much daily, they couldn't possibly waste time and energy on such an unreliable matter."
Bai Zhongqi asked, "If it's unreliable, why did you come here?"
Lan Xue pointed to the Duofen Civilization's ships and said, "Just like them, because I know the Golden Great Sail Ship definitely exists. The Duofen Civilization participated in the last ship raid, so they know exactly what they are doing. And I, I heard it from my teacher who also participated in the last raid."
At this juncture, Lan Xue's face took on a nostalgic expression. Growing up under the protective care of her mother and aunt, she always lacked a male figure to look after her. Later, a shabby old man came to their home, hired by her mother to serve as the housekeeper. Although the old man was greedy and quite stingy, he treated Lan Xue very well. In his early years, he used to be a notorious interstellar tomb raider, rumored to have touched the ruins of high-level civilizations. But with age, he retired and became a servant in Lan Xue's home.
The old man told Lan Xue many stories about his tomb-raiding days; the truth of these stories was indeterminable, but they deeply embedded the fascination for treasure hunting in young Lan Xue's heart. Especially the story of the Golden Great Sail Ship, which Lan Xue badgered the old man to retell every so often. Though the old man's versions varied each time and his recounting lacked coherence.
Until the old man became too old and couldn't tell stories anymore, lying in his hospital bed, Lan Xue would sit by his bedside and tell him stories about the Golden Great Sail Ship. Just before he passed away, he told Lan Xue that he hadn't accomplished his goals, but Lan Xue definitely could.
Lan Xue felt warmth in her heart and thought to herself, "I will definitely fulfill the old man's last wishes, and I will let the great sail ship take me to find my dad."
Bai Zhongqi could see the tender part in Lan Xue's heart, even though the girl was crazy and cunning, she still managed to make him feel an inexplicable affection towards her.
Lan Xue pointed at the last group of people and said, "Hmm, this side, although it only has one ship, might be the most powerful presence here."
Bai Zhongqi asked, "Who are they?"
"The Star Warrior Sect." Fear flickered in Lan Xue's eyes. Earlier, when she mentioned the other three forces, she showed no reaction, but speaking of the Star Warrior Sect made her body tremble uncontrollably.
Just then, on the console in front of Bai Zhongqi, a communication request suddenly came through. Without much thought, Bai Zhongqi opened the video call.
This was a public channel, which actually only the high-power holographic communication devices on warships could use, so at this moment, all those present in this public channel were forces that possessed ships.
Since Bai Zhongqi wasn't sitting in the captain's position and Lan Xue was, when the holographic camera turned on, Lan Xue was the one captured on camera. This formed a holographic image meeting mode. The holographic images of each group were uploaded to the channel, and the holographic images of others also appeared in front of her, making it seem as if there was a group of people actually gathered for a meeting.
Bai Zhongqi, standing outside the frame, did not appear on the screen.
Being filmed made Lan Xue feel a bit awkward and at a loss, but Bai Zhongqi gave her an encouraging look, and she immediately perked up, sitting there pompously, her hands holding the armrests.
She was also prepared to speak and make her presence felt.
However, by that time, someone had already begun speaking, and it was the person who convened this holographic video meeting.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are all influential groups with at least ships to participate in this operation. Let me introduce myself, my name is Yuan, a Three-Star Bishop of the Star Warrior Sect, the esteemed disciple directly taught by the great Star Warrior master, Sagacious Leader of the Sect, Master Hu."
