Chapter 4: CH.4: The One With The Summary
8 Years Later Lincoln Airport
Mercer now 18, stood outside the airport with Mother Mary, Ross, and Monica, feeling the bittersweet pull of his next big step. He'd dreamed of heading to Columbia with Ross and getting to meet Chandler, but the scholarship to MIT was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. Mother Mary looked up at him with a proud smile, the motherly warmth in her gaze making it harder to leave, but he knew he had to for the future.
Mary: "Mercer, when you get there, you have to be on your best behavior, okay? Stay true to yourself, Mercer." her voice gentle
Mercer hugged her tightly, feeling grateful for all she'd done and for the support she'd always given him. Turning to Ross and Monica, he felt a pang of nostalgia.
Mercer: he murmured "I'll miss you guys."
Ross's face was strained with tears as he hugged Mercer, his oldest friend.
Ross: sniffling "I'm going to miss you too, you know that college won't be the same without you."
Mercer: holding back his tears "I know man, but we have to separate in our lives eventually and we're still going to see each other in a while." he then turned to Monica
Monica: "Just go already, we come to the airport, and you interrupted my meals and so just go, so that I can go back to my lunch. And you better visit every chance you get and also call us anytime."
Mercer smiled at Monica and her antics as he went to her and ruffled her hair.
Mercer: with a hand on her shoulder " Hey Mon, you have to lessen your eating and exercise sometimes, I'll help you and I know you're going to miss me, well I'm going to miss you too, so take care of yourself and look out for Ross too, okay?"
Tears could be seen threatening to fall out of Monica's eyes as she hugged her long time friend which prompted Ross to join the group hug as Mercer Hugged them as well with Tears in his eyes.
Mercer: "Alright, I have to go now."
Mercer said that as he released the group hug and with a final wave, Mercer forced himself to walk into the airport, steeling himself for the journey ahead.
Mercer: [only a few years left for the main plot to start, I can't wait for all that will follow]
One Year Later – MIT
In record time, Mercer blazed through MIT's rigorous coursework, mastering every class with ease. By the end of the year, he'd already completed his degree. Thanks to the help of his sharp mind and memories and experience of Bruce Wayne and from his past life, college classes were a breeze like the air.
Now free of academic obligations and just started going to college for fun, Mercer set his sights on creating technology that the world hadn't yet dreamed of. He began laying out plans for platforms like Windows, Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. To make these ideas a reality, he saved funds and invested smartly in stocks. He also enrolled in additional courses in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software programming, completing them in about two months thanks to his advanced skills and his Peak human Body, as he breezed through it without any discomfort in his body due to the stress.
After he applied for an early graduation as he didn't need to waste any time is college and started his project, with funds in place, Mercer launched his own company, Wayne Enterprises. His first breakthrough was the WS Phone—a sleek, user-friendly device that bridged the gap between everyday people and advanced technology. This success marked the beginning of his career as a tech innovator, and soon he was creating everything from state-of-the-art gadgets to cars and aircraft. He didn't want to indulge in weapons as he didn't want some crazy power hungry Psychopath to get their hands on it and then leading to devastating wars, so that was out of the question.
The Geller House – Thanksgiving Dinner
After 2 year apart, Mercer's life was already buzzing with new projects when Ross invited him to Thanksgiving dinner at his parents' house. Eager to reconnect, he accepted and soon he would find himself meeting Ross's college roommate, Chandler Bing.
? : curiously looking at Ross "So, your telling me that Mercer Wayne, the tech mogul, and kind of the richest man in the world, Is your childhood friend?"
Ross: with pride, bragging to Chandler "He's been my best friend since high school—and he's already running his own tech company. He's literally a genius."
?: "Yeah, the one that graduated early, a man of since and also the owner of Wayne Enterprises, the world's leading technological company and so on, you are full of praises when you talk about him and I have to say we got pretty enough girls because of that, so what about him?" shrugging his shoulders
Ross: "He really is my best friend, we invited him to thanksgiving, so you'll get to meet him."
?: eyes widened "Wait-what, you don't mean..., I thought you were just saying all that bullshit just to talk to girls, I never thought you were serious."
Before Ross could say anything more, they saw a man around their age walking up to them with a smile on his and a smiling Monica in tow.
Mercer: smilingly hugging Ross "Hey Ross, It's been like four years since we last met. Well, I'm sorry for not making time on the holidays as I promised as I was busy with the company as It was just starting out."
Ross: lets go of the hug "Are you kidding me, you're the best friend one could ever have, but I will accept your apology if you would throw some light in my ongoing project as you know I'm also graduating this year."
Mercer sighed helplessly as he knew what Ross meant by throwing light, as it meant them talking about dinosaurs all day long as he couldn't help but smile.
Mercer: "I see and I also heard you'll be pursing yours masters and PhD, Congrats man" turns to face Chandler "I'm sorry, are you one of Ross's friend?"
Mercer said as he looked at another person from the show in front of him, he looked at Chandler with his funny haircut that both he and Ross had.
Chandler: impressed "Well, I'm sold. No pressure for the rest of us, and for a second there, I thought I was becoming a ghost."
Monica: playfully shoving him "Mercer, be nice! You haven't changed at all. And yeah Chandler, you can say that, I always feel that way when both of them meet like this."
Mercer: playfully looking at Monica "Oh please Monica, we were Just catching up, that's all and I don't think I got your name, friend of Ross?"
Chandler: extended a hand "My name is Chandler Bing."
Mercer: shakes Chandler's hand "Well, it's good to finally meet the famous Chandler."
As they settled into conversation, Mercer noticed Ross and Chandler's outdated outfits—oversized sweaters and clunky ties that seemed years behind the times. He smirked, unable to resist teasing them.
Mercer: "Chandler, Ross, has anyone ever told the Both of you that the way you guys are dressed, is the definition of a woman repellant. I can see the look is still going strong though." he joked
Chandler and Ross were taken aback by that sudden attack at them to which Monica laughed at them.
Mercer: "Don't mind the insult, but I can't let you guys continue to live like this, so I agree to myself that I will help you guys out."
Chandler: laughed, unfazed "I will have you know that this look has gotten me plenty of dates with several women! Well, enough to count on... one hand."
Chandler said before he realizing what he had just said and cursed at Mercer for saying what he said earlier.
Mercer: playfully "Now, you realize just how life had played you and I bet Ross hasn't gotten laid yet." raising an eyebrow, glancing at Ross "Hope you'll catch up one of these days, Ross."
As Mercer turned to and said that Ross flushed bright red, then he and Monica Immediately walked away from there as they know he was about to target them. Seeing as his targets are running away, Mercer turned back to Chandler with a grin.
Mercer: chuckled "So, Chandler Bing, huh? What kind of name is that?"
Chandler: groaned, rolling his eyes "Yeah, yeah, It's a family curse and trust me, I ask myself that all the time." in his mind [damn it, this is why I hate thanksgiving]
Wedding Day
Mercer: adjusting his tie "I swear, if it wasn't for that boy Ben, I would have ruined this marriage."
A couple of years later, Mercer attended Ross's wedding to Carol, his heart heavy with the knowledge that Carol would later fall for Susan. Still, he kept silent for Ross's sake, knowing this marriage would one day lead to the birth of Ross's son, Ben. And to make sure that boy bares the Geller name and also have Ross start making decisions for himself and not to be walked all over by that Carol and that stupid Susan who came from now where and thinks she could have the child take her name and even went as far as almost making Ben Geller less of the name which he won't allow.
He walked out of his apartment and to my McLaren F1 which I made personally and also one of my personal cars. He drove to the wedding venue where he saw everyone from Mother Mary to Ross and Monica's parents as Judy was flashing her smile as she was happy that Ross was getting married.
Mercer greeted Ross's parents and other familiar faces, observing Ross and Chandler's banter from afar. Chandler, as best man, looked slightly awkward in his formal attire, but Mercer hadn't wanted to take up the position himself—knowing the marriage's future failure, he felt distant from it all and He didn't like Carol at all.
As the ceremony began, Mercer held his breath, but Ross managed to get through the vows without a hitch and Ross didn't say the wrong name and he wasn't drunk, the celebration unfolded with everyone blissfully unaware of what lay ahead. Mercer quietly watched, determined to support his friend, even knowing the heartbreak that would come.
Mercer had firmly established Wayne Enterprises as a tech leader, designing everything from innovative gadgets to vehicles, all while balancing his friendships with Ross, Monica, and Chandler. His career was soaring, and he continued inventing technologies that advanced society. He remained close to Ross and the others, navigating his unique journey while witnessing their shared experiences in a world that was starting to feel like home. Alongside this, he watched as his friends' lives began to follow the timeline he remembered, almost mirroring the events of Friends.
