Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Death In The Family
Hey guys, I hope you guys enjoyed the last chapter! I'll be the first to admit that writing this particular version of my longest running story (chapter number wise at least) has alot different of a feel to it. I think maybe because it's requiring me to to put more thought into what to write.. i don't know lol. I'll do my best with story pacing this chapter. If you haven't caught it yet, there was a pretty big bombshell about Qrow revelaed last chapter. The reason he keeps his relationship with dark elves a secret will be revealed at some point during the course of this story.
After some extensive thinking, I realized that there are some things I am going to change for this story compared to the original Flame and Crimson story on here. So the overall story will stay the same, but some of the events and character interactions will be different. Most notably as you guys have guessed and seen... Weiss is the main love interest for Odyn this time around, so that.. changes some things within the story that played out when Ruby was the main love interest for him. I may change it just because Ruby and Yang are step siblings, but maybe you guys can help me out with this one:
Which of the Rwby female characters should Roy be paired with this time?

Chapter 2: Tragedy and Separation; Death in the Family
Location: Schnee Family Manor : Continent of Solitas, Kingdom of Atlas
It has now been a few days since the meeting between the Schnee's and the Albanar's as everything is now... mostly normal within the Schnee household. The details of the agreement between Nicolas II and the Albanar Family were kept a a tight lidded secret for obvious reasons from the ears of Jacque Schnee.
Weiss was just going through her normal routine for the day when she ran into her Grandfather whilst training. She was just getting a drink of water after a training session with her elder sister, Winter. Nicolas had come by just to check up on his granddaughters when he spotted Weiss.
"Huh? It's grandfather, wonder what he's doing here?," Weiss wondered aloud.
She waved towards him with a cheerful smile.
"Grandfather! Over here!," Weiss waved to him.
Nicolas saw Weiss waving him over and smiled at her. He then made his way over towards her.
"Ah, hello there Weiss. How are you doing?," He asked with a smile.
Weiss smiled at her Grandfather.
"Okay, I guess...," Weiss said smiling before looking down.
Nicolas noticed that and slightly frown before bending down to her eye level. He patted her head and smiled, he knew why Weiss was down.
"You miss that boy, don't you? What was his name.. Odyn was it?," Nicolas said.
Weiss nodded in response.
"I see. That's why you can't focus in your training.," Nicolas replied.
He then had an idea.
"There actually is something I need to talk to you about, Weiss. And it's important.," Nicolas told her.
"Really?," Weiss asked innocently.
"Yes. And while we're here... perhaps you could show me where you're having trouble in your training?," He said.
Weiss smiled and nodded. Thus seemed to brighten her mood, causing the elder Schnee to heartily laugh. He saw Winter standing in the doorway to a certain room that could be used for training. Nicolas followed Weiss towards the room the sisters used as training grounds and went inside.
The Schnee Patriarch looked to Winter before whispering to her.
"Be certain that no one is around listening in, this is hardly a soundproof room.," Nicolas said.
Winter nodded as she double checked to ensure no one was around. As far as she knew, her Father was busy at work and wouldn't be home for a few hours. However there was another member of her family she had to be wary of: her brother, whitley. He may have been young, but he was essentially her father's spy during the hours that he wasn't home.
Fortunately, he wasn't around. After being certain no one aside from Klein, the family butler was around, she closed the door. This signaled her Grandfather to begin talking.
" Before we begin, Weiss. There is something important that you should know as it concerns both yourself and that dark elf boy, Odyn." He began.
Weiss raised a confused eyebrow. This puzzled her.
"Okay? What is it that involves both Odyn and myself, Grandfather?," Weiss asked.
Nicolas smiled at his Granddaughter as he spoke.
"Weiss.. you and Odyn are very close, aren't you?," He asked.
Weiss nodded.
"Yeah. We've known each other since we were little.," She answered.
"That boy's family gave us a way to help out the company. It wasn't as though we were lacking, they have just provided a way to make the company more profitable." He said.
"That's great then, Grandfather! We won't have to lack for workers then.," Weiss beamed.
"Yes, that is true Weiss. They did have an.. interesting condition attached to the agreement, one that will only go into effect should each party agree to the terms.," He explained.
"What.. sort of condition or terms did they have for this deal?," Weiss asked.
Nicolas was proud of his granddaughter, she was already thinking like a future head of the company.
"Their only condition was this: That you and their son, odyn, be wed after you both come of age.," Nicolas told her.
"Wed? Um.. I'm not sure I understand, Grandfather...,"Weiss said confused. "What do you mean by that?"
This was when winter spoke to explain things.
"What Grandfather is saying, Weiss is that you and odyn can stay together when you are older... by marrying each other. You'll be like Father and Mother are... just with Odyn.," Winter explained.
Weiss's eyes widened and her face flushed red at the thought.
"H-huh?! B-But that would mean that..," Weiss stuttered embarrassed.
"Of course it would, Weiss. Odyn would become your fiancée, or in other words: your future husband.,"Nicolas said. "You do like him, do you not?"
Weiss looked down and played with her hair, slightly embarrassed and red in the face.
"W-well y-yeah of course I like him, he's my friend. But i uh..." Weiss said still struggling a bit to proccess what she'd just been told. "M-me and Odyn? I-I uh... n-never saw us like that... Does he know?"
"Of course he knows, Weiss. He was the one who agreed to it.," Winter told her.
Weiss then smiled as she looked to her Grandfather with a determined look as she answered him.
"V-Very well then. I g-guess i don't mind becoming Odyn's fiancée..," Weiss answered.
Nicolas chuckled as he smiled.
"Wonderful. It would seem I can let them know of the good news then.," Nicolas said.
Weiss smiled and nodded before her Grandfather spoke to her again. He chuckled and patted her head as he smiled.
"Now then Weiss, perhaps you can show me where exactly it is that you're having difficulty in your training? I may be able to offer some of what knowledge I have to help you.,"Nicolas said.
Winter was seen to be smiling off to the side as she watched Nicolas instruct her sister, Weiss on where she was having trouble previously. Not only did he instruct her on what she would need to do, he even offereed some of his own knowledge and experience to help weiss to grow as a swordmaiden. Weiss used a rapier, just like her sister Winter did. Of course she was merely learning for self defense purposes, she was still a bit too young to fight. Nicolas smiled at her once they were finished, he had to get back to his work as he'd been gone long enough. The youngest Schnee girl waved farewell to her Grandfather as Winter was seen to be escorting Nicolas back to his office. Weiss meanwhile walked out of the room they were in, taking care to place the rapier back onto the wall before exiting. As she began to walk towards the garden, most likely to have som tea in the gazebo there, she was stopped by Klein. He was seen holding out a tray with an item on it.
"Young miss, a letter came for you.,"Klein said.
Weiss raised an eyebrow at this, she certainly wasn't expecting to get a letter today. She took the letter and bowed her head slightly towards Klein.
"Thank you, Klein. Let me know if I am needed for anyhting else.,"Weiss said.
"Of course, young miss.,"Klein replied.
Weiss then walked towards a bench and sat down. When the girl sat down, she opened the letter addressed to her personally as she began to read it. She knew immediately who it was from.
"Dear Princess, how are you? Things have been alright over here I suppose. By the time you read this letter you will already know of our engagement to each other. My parents and I have been working with your grandfather to ensure the success of his company through trade routes not previously explored and through technology not seen before.
I do have the sinking feeling that something bad may happen soon, but maybe I'm just paranoid. It is like I told you: your father, Jacque, hates us dark elves for some reason though I don't know why... I'll just warn you of this before it's too late: your dad is planning something and whatever it is I have a gut feeling that it won't be good. I truly do wish that I am wrong about this feeling I'm getting from your father... You don't need to mention this to your grandfather because I'm certain he's aware of yiur dad's hatred and racist attitude towards others that are non human or are less fortunate then the nobility are. It wouldn't do any good to tell him, because I've heard his health... isn't the greatest in the last number of years. So please don't worry, Weiss. I promise that we will meet again soon, princess.
Sincerely, your fiancée, Odyn Albanar"
Weiss finished reading the letter with a scowl on her face. She knew her father had been very cold and antagonistic towards the Albanar's when they visited, a fact that didn't sit well with her. For now though, she would believe that her fiancée's fears were unfounded. The girl looked over to Klein before waving him over.
"How can I be of service, young miss?," He asked.
"Can you fetch me a pen and some paper? An envelope would be nice too.," Weiss asked.
"Certainly, young miss.," Klein replied.
He walked away, before returning momentarily with a tray that had the requested items on it. Weiss smiled and briefly thanked Klein as the butler then walked away to attend to his duties nearby. The sipver haired girl sighed before she took the pen and began writing her letter to Odyn, her childhood best friend, and now future husband.
She thought on what his letter said to her: It seemed more like a warning. While that was a little curious, she couldn't help but to think on her friend's words.
"I wonder what Odyn meant by Father is planning something.." She thought. "I do hope both of us are wrong about father doing anything rash."
Weiss continued to pen her letter to Odyn, deciding to not worry about it, for now. She had so many things that she wanted to talk to him about, but not enough writing space on the paper to contain all of her thoughts. The Schnee simply would have to ask Odyn some of these things again, whenever she saw him.
Setting her pen down after finishing her letter, she folded it before inserting into the envelope. Sealing the envelope and calling for the butler again. Klein came back after upon hearing his name called.
"How can I be of service, young miss?," He asked.
Weiss handed him the sealed letter as she spoke.
"I need you to deliver this letter. And... be sure that my father doesn't see you.," Weiss said.
Klein politely bowed.
"As you wish, young miss. I will do my utmost to see this is delivered.," Klein said.
Weiss smiled at him.
"Thank you, Klein.," Weiss said.
Klein smiled and bowed in response.
"Of course, young miss. I aim to serve.," Klein replied before he walked away to deliver the letter.
Weiss sat up from her seat and decided to walk around the garden some more. She smiled upon thinking of her last interaction with the dark elf a couple of weeks prior.
"I wasn't able to say it at the time, but I do hope... he at least understands what I'm feeling through my letter..," Weiss silently said to herself.
Narration (Weiss): I was blissfully unaware at the time what exactly would happen within the next few weeks... What a fool I was then. If only I had known what my father was really scheming behind the scenes, then... perhaps I could have stopped him.... Before I knew it, another few weeks had gone by...
Time skip: 2 weeks later....
Weiss was seen to be runnning through the corridor of the Family home on her way towards the main part of the estate. She was in a panic because she had received some very alarming news. Her Grandfather, Nicolas Schnee II had been gravely hurt when he went to peacefully negotiate some terms with Faunus leaders.
"Grandfather... please, please be okay!," Weiss thought as she ran as fast as her two legs could carry her towards her Grandfather's bedroom.
She was half in tears when she heard the news, but now was simply a mask of worry for the elder man. Weiss burst into her Grandfather's bed chambers, seeing the rest of her family there already.
Her eyes widened upon seeing the state of her beloved Grandfather. However.... what she saw horrified her. There was Nicolas Schnee II laying on his bed with a bloodied cloth over his stomach, but a smile on his face as he laid there. She dropped to her knees, it was too late.
"No... no no no no no no please, Grandfather! Please, wake up!," Weiss said she ran to her Grandfather's bedside.
Winter came behind her, embracing her younger sister. She also had tears flowing as she had her eyes closed.
"Weiss please... stop. It's... too late, Grandfather.. he's gone now.," Winter said.
Weiss couldn't take it and buried her face into the covers of her Grandfather's bed, sobbing.
"Why... how... how could this happen?!," she thought.
"Those filthy faunus are to blame. They lured him into a trap, just so they could kill him. And what did those "forsaken" do to protect him? Nothing! That's what! It was a mistake to trust them.," Jacque said.
Although he said this, inwardly he was grinning. He could now take over the family business like he always wanted to since he married into the family. There was no one to stop him now. He walked out of the bedroom to give the other members time to grieve the loss of the family Patriarch. There was but one step left for his plan to be complete: Blame the entire string of events upon the Dark Elves. But then again... maybe he didn't need to. They were already vilified by the general public enough as it is.
Narrator (Weiss): Part of me died that day I lost my Grandfather. As a result of my Grandfather's death, Dark Elves began to be treated even worse than Faunus were. Perhaps it was due to their rough treatment and public vilification by Atlesians, the dark elves disappeared from the face of Solitas.
I cried until there were no more tears to shed. After that... my home life became... very difficult to say the least.
The camera shows a young weiss get up from crying as she looks towards the moon, still sad at the loss of her grandfather. It transitions to Weiss in her room as she has her knees tucked into her chest and her head down in her arms.
Weiss looked towards the table next to her bed, seeing a letter addressed to her. She sniffles as she picks up the letter.
"A.. letter?," Weiss asked confused as she was still seen to be sniffling.
She opened it and her eyes widened upon what she read.
"Hey princess, I heard about what happened to your grampa. Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. As you know, the public thinks we're the ones who assasinated your gramps. Things have become... difficult for us, we aren't even allowed basic freedom anymore. As a result, my people have... been run out of our homes by the humans. We were already not looked favorably upon but now... You can imagine most of us elven kind have now gone into hiding. This was what i meant by having to move. My tribe, our families have to move to a safer area. Please don't feel like it's your fault, because I know you don't see us in that way, princess. Just promise that when the time comes that we meet again, don't forget about the promise we made to each other. For now, just know that we elves will be watching over you and cheering you on. Until later, my friend.
Sincerely yours, Odyn Albanar."
Weiss felt tears stream down her cheeks, but she felt... happy? Odyn would be watching over her from.. afar, wherever that was. There was one clear thought in her mind after she read his letter.
"Thank you, Odyn...," She thought.
Weiss wiped away her tears and stood to her feet with a determined look on her face. She would see her friend again, no matter how many years it would take.
After that, Weiss dedicated herself to her training. Her home life, unfortunately, took a nose dive no thanks to her father. He took over the company as his "due diligence" as he put it in taking over as the famiky head. To say that none of the Schnee family was happy during this wouldn't do it justice. Willow became very distant from the rest of the family and sank into what one would describe as a prolonged depression.
Winter had moved out and joined the military, much to the displeasure of Jacque after graduating from Atlas Academy. Jacque didn't agree with the way General Ironwood ran things in the military due to his eliteist attitude towards some of Ironwood's personell. Whitley didn't change though, he was ever his father's faithful aide and sometimes spy at home.
Weiss had become cold and distant towards her father, not viewing him in a positive light given how he ran the family company. Jacque was so consumed by his work at the company that he hardly noticed his own daughter's indifference towards him. He still thought she was the obedient little girl that he could manipulate however he wanted. That couldn't be further from truth, however. She had made sure not to let Jacque find out about her engagement to Odyn though.
More than likely, were he to find out: He would try and do whatever possible to void the agreement. No matter how much or often Jacque told Weiss to forget about her previous ties with the "forsaken", she just couldn't. Her bonds with them were stronger than with her own family, due to hiw rotten her own family members had become. She kept in contact with Khanna throughout her childhood, they would send each other letters multiple times a month just to see how the other were doing.
Weiss: I still remember... those words of my dear friend from back then. When we were children...
"What do you think of us Elves, Weiss? Do you think we're the monsters everyone says we are?"
"What?! Of course not Odyn! Why would people think such things? It's true, you are different. But you elves are... some of the kindest people I've ever met. You're just... misunderstood is all."
"Thank you, princess. We may hate humans, but we know not all humans are bad. We trust you, I trust that you're one of the good humans." You don't discriminate against us for no reason. I appreciate that, Weiss."
Weiss: After the letter I received following Grandfather's death, I stopped hearing from Odyn. It's been.. 9 years now since I've heard from him. In my heart though, I know he's still out there somewhere. My prince is still out there, alive somewhere... There wasn't a day that went by I didn't think about him. Odyn was in my thoughts every single day, I'm positive that's what has allowed me to stay sane for these long 9 years of no contact or word from him whatsoever. I was engaged to him following my 8th birthday..., I'm now 17 years old and ready to enter the most prestigious Huntsman school on the face of Remnant.. Beacon Academy.
The camera pans to Weiss exiting her home with her luggage as she briefly looks back. Klein smiles and biws slightly towards her. Ever the faithful butler, he was the one ray of sunshine during her childhood within the home of the Schnee's.
"Do take care of yourself out there, milady.," Klein said.
She smiled back at him.
"Of course I will, Klein.," Weiss answered as she walked towards the aircraft which would take her to Sanus.
Weiss strode forward, confident in her ability to change things. She would change things for the better. She clutched her fist to her chest, looking skyward.
"Odyn... if you're out there somewhere, watch over me and.. wish me luck. I hope .. we .. can meet again soon.," Weiss thought.
Little did she know, she was about to get her heartfelt wish in a way that she would have never expected.
To be continued...
Ending theme: Reincarnated as a Sword ending song 1
Visuals: Replace Fran with Weiss in her home. Weiss then looks skyward and runs across a field before stopping and seeing Odyn as a child. The children stare at each other before it transitions to them as adults(young adults/teenagers) running towards each other from different perspectives. The song ends as the two are seen to be walking towards each other with Odyn smiling and reaching out his hand towards Weiss. Weiss turns away and blushes for a second before accepting the hand. The two hold hands as they walk towards the distance in a freeze frame.
Hey guys I hope you enjoyed the chapter. A little shorter i know. Sorry in advance if I skipped over some details, but I wanted this to be more of a weiss themed setup chapter for the story as it goes towards where the story will start. Next chapter will start from Odyn's perspective before he and the others head towards Beacon Academy. Alot of the story will stay the same, but as I said: Since Weiss is the main love interest this time, certain events will play out differently.
