Chapter 1: Chapter 001: The FGO System
Opening his eyes, Reiji Souma found himself in a world completely different from what he had seen before.
The surroundings were dark and oppressive.
He felt utterly exhausted, leaning against the back of a tall building, much like a wounded beast recovering from its injuries.
"Where… am I?"
Just as confusion began to cloud his thoughts, a sharp pain pierced through his head. He instinctively shut his eyes, pressing a hand against his temple as he lowered his head, groaning in discomfort.
In the sudden influx of foreign memories, Reiji discovered that he was a magus—and not just any magus, but one chosen by the Holy Grail.
A stroke of luck, perhaps. But also, the beginning of a tragedy.
Like many others, he had come to Fuyuki City in pursuit of the legendary wish-granting Holy Grail, said to be an all-powerful artifact. However, it was clear that before the Holy Grail War had even begun, other magi had already set their sights on eliminating him.
The Holy Grail War was indeed dangerous, but if one could summon a powerful Servant and emerge victorious, the rewards would be immeasurable.
It was no surprise that some individuals—who had their own ambitions for the Grail but were not chosen as Masters—would resort to eliminating actual Masters before they could summon their Servants, stealing their Command Spells for themselves.
As Reiji processed these newfound memories, he couldn't help but feel a sense of shock.
After all, in the original story, there had never been a Master named Reiji Souma.
Which meant… the original owner of this body had died before the main events even began.
And the one who had killed him was—
"Matou Zouken, huh?"
Recalling the eerie image of that decaying old man who could dissolve into a swarm of insects, a shiver ran down Reiji's spine.
The previous owner of this body must have had decent skill in magecraft, considering they had survived an attack from that monster long enough to escape.
But being found was only a matter of time.
And worse—while Reiji had inherited this body's Magic Circuits and Od (magical energy or lesser source), he had somehow lost all knowledge of magecraft itself.
As he narrowed his eyes in frustration, a mechanical voice echoed in his ears.
[FGO System Activated]
At the sound of those words, Reiji's expression shifted from confusion to sheer joy.
The moment he mentally accessed the system, all relevant information about the FGO System surfaced in his mind.
[Summon] | [Command Spells] | [Holy Grail]
Perhaps because this was the first time awakening the system, only three options were available.
After carefully reviewing each function, Reiji quickly grasped the system's capabilities.
[Summon]: As the name suggests, this allowed him to summon Servants. Each summon required three Saint Quartz, and there was no limit to how many Servants he could summon.
[Command Spells]: Functioning just like regular Command Spells, he started with three, which could be used to issue absolute orders. However, unlike ordinary Masters, his Command Spells replenished automatically—one every 24 hours. Even if all three were used up, they would regenerate without consequence.
[Holy Grail]: This allowed him to grant Servants a Holy Grail, increasing their power. Just like in Fate/Grand Order, receiving a Holy Grail would significantly enhance a Servant's abilities.
Additionally, unlike the corrupted Holy Grail in the Fourth Holy Grail War, this FGO System only contained pure Grails.
According to the system's explanation, if Reiji retrieved the Fourth War's Holy Grail before it was used, All the World's Evils (Angra Mainyu) would cease to exist. In that case, the Grail would simply become his personal artifact, completely losing its corrupting influence.
Unlike other cheat-like systems, this one did not assign missions or force objectives onto him.
It simply existed—silent, ever-present, and entirely at his disposal.
Reiji glanced at the Summon tab and saw that he currently only had three Saint Quartz. Letting out a sigh, he shook his head.
Though he had reincarnated into a world he had dreamed of in his past life, now was not the time to be excited.
Matou Zouken would find him soon.
And this one summon was his only chance.
Even though he had inherited the memories of this body's original owner, he had lost all magecraft knowledge for unknown reasons.
That meant his only option was to gamble everything on these three Saint Quartz.
The Holy Grail War was still half a month away, meaning even Kotomine Kirei had yet to summon his Assassin. But Reiji was an exception.
After all, the FGO System transcended the constraints of the Fourth Holy Grail War.
Even if it weren't time for the war, he could summon Servants freely.
And unlike other Masters, he wasn't limited to one Servant.
Just like in FGO, he could summon multiple Servants.
Not only that—he didn't have to supply them with mana himself.
Instead, the system provided all the magical energy they needed, allowing his Servants to fight at full power without concern for resource limitations.
Furthermore, unlike normal Holy Grail Wars, where Servants disappeared after the conflict ended, his summoned Servants would not return to the Throne of Heroes.
"I don't have a choice now… but once I summon a Servant and kill that old worm, I'll finally have some breathing room."
As these thoughts raced through his mind, he could already hear the faint sound of insects buzzing nearby.
Without hesitation, he spent all three of his Saint Quartz, initiating his first summon.
As the familiar summoning rings formed before him, brilliant light erupted, illuminating the dark alley.
Watching the dazzling scene unfold, Reiji's lips curled into a smirk.
"Alright… time to test my luck."
