Chapter 25: 25. Rachel.
She had been skeptical about the entire situation at first, but the hope of escaping her father far outweighed her doubts.
Her father had been a constant, looming shadow in her life. A prophecy foretold that on her eighteenth birthday, he would use her to bring about Earth's destruction. That fear had shaped her every action, every thought.
But now, as she looked down at her much smaller hands, a faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips. It was still surreal—being in the world of Harry Potter. One of the few joys she had ever known was reading, and those books had been some of her favorites.
So when the archway to Diagon Alley actually opened, a flicker of excitement sparked in her chest. But years of meditation to control her emotions kept her face mostly neutral.
She had spent her entire life restraining herself. If she lost control, her father would seize the opportunity to influence her, whispering in her mind, eroding her will. But now… nothing. No dark murmurs, no struggle for dominance, no suffocating weight pressing against her soul.
For the first time in her life, she was free.
Her gaze shifted to Ryan, walking ahead of her. It was thanks to him. He had severed her connection to her father, releasing her from the chains of fate. And she wasn't the only one he had saved.
She had learned the stories of Yue and Serenity. Yue, who had been imprisoned in darkness for centuries, and Serenity, an assassin who had never known the warmth of a simple touch. Even without her empathic abilities, she could feel their deep, unwavering devotion to him.
She had never really thought about love. Not with everything that had loomed over her future. Her focus had always been on finding a way to resist her father, to prevent the destruction he would bring through her.
She had even sought help from the Justice League once—only to be called a demon by Zatanna and attacked. That day had nearly crushed her last sliver of hope. Until Ryan had appeared, reaching out a hand in the darkness, offering salvation.
She had been desperate. Willing to give anything—everything—to be free.
And he had saved her.
Ryan wasn't bad-looking either. Even at eleven, he was tall and well-built for his age. Her eyes drifted to the strong hand holding her own, and a blush crept onto her cheeks.
She had never been on a date before.
And now her first one was in this world, in Diagon Alley, of all places.
Ryan turned to her with a warm smile. "Let's get some ice cream from Fortescue's."
Her heart thumped. "Okay."

They wandered through shop after shop, starting with a magic trunk, then her wand, Hogwarts textbooks, and any other books she had so much as glanced at. Next came robes from Madam Malkin's, followed by trinkets from various stores.
It was perfect.
Then, at Eyelops Owl Emporium, she found him.
A large black raven perched in the corner of the shop, its piercing eyes meeting hers. She felt a strange connection to the bird, something deep and instinctual.
Without hesitation, Ryan purchased him for her.
"We were missing an owl for letters anyway. A raven will do just fine," he said with a casual grin.
And just like that, she had her first pet.
By the time they returned home, her heart was full in a way she had never experienced before. But before they entered the house, Ryan gently tilted her chin up.
Her breath caught.
Then, her first kiss was stolen.
Fireworks exploded in her mind, her stomach twisting with butterflies. It was… amazing.
With flushed cheeks, she quickly escaped inside, heading straight for her new room.
"Caaaw!"
She turned to glare at her raven, who definitely sounded amused.
"S-Shut up, Nyx!"
Still, she couldn't stop the warmth spreading through her chest.
Her new room was cozy, complete with a bed, closet, and even a small bathroom. Through the window, she could see the street below, where people walked and cars passed by.
It was hers. A real, stable home. No orphanages, no dark alleyways, no sewers. And with the house protected by the Fidelius Charm, she was safe.
Setting Nyx's cage near the window, she filled his water bowl and offered him food.
Today had been perfect.
Her first date.
Her first kiss.
Her first pet.
Seeing the Harry Potter world with her own eyes.
She wanted to squeal, to flop onto the bed and kick her legs in excitement.
But she didn't.
Instead, she sat down and started meditating, calming her emotions.
Once she was centered, she pulled out a book—Mental Magic: Occlumency and Legilimency.
Even if the peerage bond protected her mind, she wanted to learn. Occlumency wasn't just about blocking mind reading—it improved memory, controlled emotions, strengthened mental defenses, and even helped resist spells and mind-altering potions.
She already knew some magic, but she wanted to master it.
And Hogwarts…
She was excited for Hogwarts.
It wasn't long before she was completely lost in her book, eyes scanning the pages hungrily.
Ryan had been right about one thing—she loved books.
In her world, she had spent hours in libraries, escaping into fantasy novels.
Before she knew it, dinner was ready.
She found it ironic that the assassin whose entire body was poisonous was in charge of cooking. But she couldn't judge—her own cooking skills were nonexistent.
Smiling to herself, she closed her book and headed toward the dining room, her heart lighter than it had ever been.
For the first time in her life, she truly belonged.
