Fairy Tail: The Pokemon Summoner

Chapter 3: A Trekking Trip!

"So, this is Fairy Tail," Noir said, gazing up at the towering building before him. The guild's name and emblem were prominently displayed on its grand facade, radiating a sense of pride and legacy. "Their guild base certainly lives up to its reputation," he added, impressed by the size and magnificence of the structure.

A soft hoot drew his attention upward. Perched on Noir's head, Rowlet fluffed his feathers and nodded approvingly, sharing his summoner's sentiment.

Currently, Rowlet was the only summon Noir had active in the Overworld. Froakie was training in the summoner's realm under the watchful eye of Reshiram, who had kindly offered to mentor the younger summons in her spare time through thought communication. Rowlet, ever the lazy one, had declined the offer, preferring to lounge on Noir's head instead. He let out a satisfied trill, using his beak to ruffle Noir's hair into an even more comfortable perch.

"Forget about that! Let's go inside already!" Lucy urged, grabbing Noir's arm and tugging him toward the entrance.

As soon as they stepped through the doors, chaos greeted them in the form of a flying table.

"Ahhh!" Lucy shrieked, throwing up her arms to shield her face.

Noir stepped forward without hesitation. "Leaf Blade!" he called, green energy surging around his forearms and forming sharp, leaf-like blades. With a single, fluid motion, he sliced the table in half. The glowing blades vanished just as quickly, and Noir turned to Lucy. "Are you all right?"

"Y-yeah, thank you," Lucy stammered, lowering her arms. She took a steadying breath, her eyes drifting to the scene unfolding in the guild hall. Her jaw dropped. "What the...?"

The hall was in utter disarray. A pink-haired boy was chewing on another man's head, a black-haired boy was inexplicably stripping down to his underwear, and a woman in a bikini top was chugging alcohol straight from a large barrel. Nearby, an orange-haired man shamelessly flirted with two women at once, while a tall, muscular man tried—and failed—to intervene in the fights, only to be blasted away when the pink and black-haired boys turned their aggression on each other. The entire hall was alive with chaos as furniture kept being destroyed left and right.

"What is wrong with these people?" Lucy whispered, her voice filled with equal parts disbelief and awe.

"Hello! Are you two new here?" A cheerful voice interrupted their thoughts. They turned to see a beautiful white-haired woman standing nearby, a warm smile on her face as she balanced a tray of drinks.

Lucy's eyes lit up with recognition. "Oh my gosh! It's Mirajane!" she squealed, practically vibrating with excitement. "In the flesh! She's even more gorgeous in person!" She practically bounced with excitement as she fangirled over the woman, who responded with a polite, slightly amused smile.

"Don't you think we should try to stop them or something?" Lucy asked nervously, gesturing toward the ongoing chaos.

"Don't worry, it's always like this here," Mirajane said with a dismissive wave. "I just let them be. Besides—" Her words were cut off as a shadow loomed over her. A white-haired man was plummeting from above, seemingly about to crash into her. Noir acted swiftly, delivering a precise kick that sent the man sprawling away harmlessly.

"Thanks for that," Mirajane said with an amused smile.

"No problem," Noir replied smoothly. "I'm Noir, and this is Lucy. We're here to join Fairy Tail."

Meanwhile, the guild's chaos escalated. The members began using magic, ready to launch into a full-blown battle, when a giant shadowy figure suddenly appeared, silencing the hall. The figure stepped on the pink-haired boy, crushing him underfoot. Then he scared Lucy a little before transforming into a dwarf-sized man who greeted them with a smile.

"This is Fairy Tail's Guild Master, Makarov," Mirajane explained, gesturing toward the small man. Lucy blinked, her expression shifting from disbelief to surprise as she glanced between Mirajane and the guild master.

From there the things followed the cannon as Makarov jumped up on the second floor of the building. From there, he shows the angry reports from the Council about them, but then decides to burn them and throws them at Natsu to eat, stating that they shouldn't be afraid of those watchful eyes from above while Fairy Tail cheers.

Lucy received her Fairy Tail stamp soon after, officially becoming a member. While she mingled and familiarized herself with her new guildmates, Noir approached Mirajane for his own registration.

"Can I get your full name and the type of magic you use?" she asked, holding a pen poised over the guild register.

"My name is Noir White, and I primarily use summoning magic," he replied, lifting Rowlet off his head and holding him out toward her. "This little guy is Rowlet, one of my summons."

Mirajane cooed at the small owl. "Oh, he's adorable! Hello there, Rowlet," she said, laughing softly as Rowlet lifted one of his wings in greeting.

"Your registration is complete. Welcome to Fairy Tail!" Mirajane said with a warm smile. "You can take any job posted on the request board in the hall, but please refrain from going upstairs—only S-Class members are allowed there."

Her tone turned serious for a moment before her smile returned. "Now, where would you like your guild mark, and in what color?"

"Well, I was thinking..." Noir rubbed his chin. "How good are your drawing skills?"

"Pretty good, I would say, but why?" Mirajane tilted her head.

"Well, I had a favor I wanted to ask, if you don't mind..." Noir said, explaining the favor to Mirajane, who was reluctant at first but agreed in the end.

And so, after three hours, Noir finally had his guild mark, in the form of a large tattoo on his back, painted with the same black ink that was used in the stamps, making him an official member of the guild.

******

'What should I do now?' Noir thought, sitting at the guild bar with his chin resting on his hand. His eyes drifted toward the request board, scanning the various jobs posted there since he didn't want to spend the entire day idling in the guild hall. 'Should I take on a request or look for a place to stay first? Hmm... what to do?'

His internal debate was interrupted by the sound of the guild doors slamming open. A young boy burst in, his face flushed with urgency as he made a beeline for the Guild Master. Noir perked up, listening as the boy, Romeo, launched into a frantic rant.

From the boy's words, Noir pieced together that Romeo's father, Macao, a Fairy Tail wizard, had gone on a mission to Mt. Hakobe a week ago and hadn't returned. Desperation colored Romeo's voice as he pleaded with Makarov for help pleading for someone to go search for his father.

Makarov, however, dismissed the boy, telling him that his father was a capable wizard who would be fine on his own, although a little harshly for Noir's liking. He then told Romeo to go home and wait for his father's return. Enraged by the response, Romeo punched Makarov in the face, turned away crying, and was about to storm out of the guild when...

"I could go to Mt. Hakobe and look for your father," Noir said casually, drawing the attention of everyone in the guild, including the tearful Romeo who froze mid-step, spinning around with wide, tear-filled eyes.

"Really?!" Romeo's face lit up with hope.

"Yeah, I really don't mind," Noir replied with a shrug.

"Kid, there's no need for you to get involved in this," Makarov said, rubbing his nose where the boy's punch had landed as Romeo glared at him. "It's generally frowned upon for one wizard to interfere in another wizard's mission."

"That's fine because I'm not planning to interfere with Macao's mission," Noir said with another shrug. "I'll just head to Mt. Hakobe, check on Romeo's father, and bring him back—or at least deliver any message he has for Romeo. Simple. Besides, consider this my initiation test of sorts."

Makarov stared at Noir for a long moment before shaking his head with a resigned sigh. "Fine, do what you want. Everyone else here does anyway."

"Great, in that case, I will leave right away," Noir said and walked to the door, but then suddenly stopped and turned around. "By the way... where is this Mt. Hakobe?" he asked with a sheepish smile while rubbing the back of his head, causing everyone in the guild to fall over comically.

"Hey! Cut me some slack—I'm new here!" Noir protested.

"It can't be helped, I suppose," Makarov said with another sigh before he turned his gaze to a brunette seated nearby, her feet propped up on the table as she sipped from a large mug. "Cana! Get your butt out of that chair and go with Noir."

"What?!" Cana exclaimed, looking up in disbelief, nearly spilling her drink. "Why not send Natsu or Gray? They'd jump at the chance to go!"

"First, I don't want the new kid to die because of those idiots," Makarov replied bluntly. "Second, you haven't taken a single mission in the last month. You're going out so your skills don't rust from sitting around drinking all day."

"But—"

"No buts," Makarov interrupted. His eyes gleamed mischievously. "Unless you want me to lock up all the alcohol and take a month-long vacation."

Cana gasped, clutching her mug like it was her lifeline. "You wouldn't dare!"

"Try me," Makarov said with a smirk.

Groaning in defeat, Cana downed the rest of her drink in one gulp and slammed the empty mug on the table. "Fine, fine, I'm going! But you owe me for this, old man!"

"Great!" Noir said with a grin. "Meet me at the city gate in fifteen minutes. I just need to grab something warm to wear." With that, he strode out of the guild hall, leaving Cana muttering darkly into her empty mug.

"Ugh, I have to get changed too," Cana grumbled, reluctantly pushing herself up from her seat.

"Wait, come here for a moment," Makarov called, motioning her over to a quieter corner of the room.

Cana sighed, already annoyed, and followed him. "What now?" she asked, crossing her arms.

Makarov leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "Cana, while you're going with Noir as his guide, I have an additional mission for you."

Her eye twitched as her patience wore thin. "Seriously? What now? Can't I just do the guide thing and be done with it?"

"Relax, I'm not piling on any tedious work," Makarov said with a weary sigh. "All I need you to do is observe him. Keep an eye on his abilities, his behavior, and anything else noteworthy. Then report back to me when you return. Think of it as part of the initiation test he mentioned."

Cana raised an eyebrow. "That's it? Doesn't sound too bad. But what about the new girl? Aren't you gonna test her too?"

"There's no need," Makarov replied, his tone growing more serious. "I already have a good sense of where she stands. Noir, on the other hand, is an enigma. He's unusually faster and stronger than most summoners I've seen, who tend to be... let's say, less physically capable. And let's just say there were some interesting reports from Hargeon Town about an incident yesterday. The boy intrigues me."

Cana rolled her eyes. "Why don't you just get to the point? I've got places to be."

Makarov crossed his arms, muttering under his breath about the impatience of the younger generation. "Just watch him and tell me what you think when you're back. That's all."

"Fine," Cana said with a shrug. She wasn't entirely sure what Makarov was so curious about, but she wasn't going to argue further. After all, if it meant she could get this over with, so be it.

After retrieving a heavy coat from her dorm room, Cana made her way to the city entrance. She found Noir already waiting, dressed in a sleek black coat and gloves, looking every bit ready for the icy conditions of Mt. Hakobe.

"Alright, where's our transport? Don't tell me you haven't sorted that out yet," Cana said, irritation creeping into her voice.

Noir chuckled, shaking his head. "Relax, I've got it covered. But it's not your typical ride."

Cana raised an eyebrow at his cryptic response. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You'll see," Noir replied with a playful grin. "But first, we've got to walk a bit to reach it."

With a groan, Cana followed as they left the city, walking in silence for about fifteen minutes. The quiet stretched uncomfortably until Cana's patience snapped. She grabbed Noir's arm, forcing him to stop.

"Alright, that's enough!" she said, glaring at him. "Did you actually arrange transport, or are you just messing with me?"

Ignoring Cana's glare Noir thought for a moment before nodding to himself. "Yeah, this should be far enough. Reshiram come out," he said and in the next moment, a giant magic circle appeared on the ground before in a flash of blinding light a beautiful white dragon materialized in front of them.

Noir stepped forward, placing a hand gently on the dragon's fur. "Thank you for this, Reshiram," he said, in a sincere voice.

'There is no need for gratitude, little summoner,' Reshiram's calm voice echoed in both their minds. 'It is my duty to assist you, no matter how trivial the task may be.'

"Even so, I appreciate it," Noir replied with a small smile before turning to Cana who stood frozen, her jaw slack as she stared at the dragon in sheer astonishment. "So, what do you think? Like our ride?"

"You... you have a dragon," she finally managed to say, her voice tinged with awe. Then, to Noir's surprise, she burst into laughter. "Oh my god, this is insane! You've got a dragon for a ride? I'm officially impressed."

Noir chuckled, extending a hand to help her up onto Reshiram's back. "Glad you approve. Now, all you have to do is point us in the direction of Mt. Hakobe. Reshiram will take care of the rest."

With a powerful beat of her wings, Reshiram lifted off the ground, carrying the two Fairy Tail mages high into the sky. The city below quickly faded from view as they soared toward their destination, the cold wind rushing past them.

As they flew, Cana couldn't help but grin thinking 'Okay, I take it back. This might actually be fun.'

******

Ten minutes later, Reshiram descended gracefully, setting Noir and Cana down at the base of Mt. Hakobe before disappearing back into the summoner's realm. Wasting no time, the pair began their climb with the frigid mountain air biting at their faces.

As they ascended, Noir finally decided to do something he had been putting off for a while. With a flick of his wrist, he accessed his personal stats, summoning the glowing interface before him.

'Nothing surprising here, aside from the magic power rating and the level-up, that must be from the incident that happened in Hargeon Town,' Noir thought, scanning the stats. 'Not sure how others measure up in this star metric though, but with Six Eyes, I can tell I'm still lacking when it comes to raw magical power.'

"What's on your mind?" Cana asked, noticing the faraway look on his face. "Thinking about some pretty girl?" she teased with a mischievous grin.

Noir grinned back. "How could I think of anyone else when I'm traveling with a breathtaking beautiful lady like you?"

Cana gave a mock flutter of her eyelashes before giggling. "Alright, smooth talker. So, why'd you take Romeo's mission? It's not like you needed to."

"Do you really need a reason to help someone?" Noir asked, tilting his head.

"You know what I mean?" Cana rolled her eyes. "From where you were sitting, you could tell Natsu was already about to jump in. But before he could, you butted in and took the job. Why?"

"Hmm, when you put it like that, it must have looked strange," Noir chuckled softly. "To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how to explain this to you, but I have a soft spot when it comes to children," he explained, a distant look appearing in his eyes. "Being an orphan myself, I know what it's like to grow up without the warmth of parents, and I just didn't want Romeo to go through that kind of loss, so I figured… why not?"

"Sorry, I shouldn't have asked," Cana said, her expression softened.

"It's fine," Noir said, shaking his head with a small smile. "Besides, compared to what some of our guildmates have been through, it's nothing." His smile turned sly. "Speaking of which, when are you going to confront Gildarts about being your dad?"

Cana froze mid-step, whipping around to stare at him. "What?! How do you—"

"I know a lot of things, Cana," Noir said, his voice taking on a dramatic tone. "I'm cursed with knowledge."

Cana groaned and waved a hand dismissively. "You know what? Forget I asked. I'm too sober for this conversation." She sighed before continuing up the trail. "So, do you actually have a plan for finding Macao, or are we just wandering aimlessly?"

"No need for that. I've been tracking a magical energy signature ahead," Noir replied. Seeing her confused look he quickly explained about his special eyes to her. "Come on, we're close."

After a few more minutes of trekking, they arrived at the mouth of an ice cave. "The magic signature is coming from—" Noir suddenly stopped mid-sentence and grabbed Cana, pulling her into his arms.

"Hey! What the—" Cana began, but her words were cut off as a massive, primate-like monster crashed down where she had been standing moments ago. The ground shook under the impact.

"Well, it's not Macao, but we definitely found something," he said, staring at the monster who was alternating between leering at Cana and glaring at Noir for holding her in his arms. Then Noir raised his eyebrow as he noticed something. "Weird, it's like this monster has two magical energies, one normal, like I have seen on other humans, and the other one, much wilder and much more dominant."

"Ah, now I get it. You must not know this, but this monster is a Vulcan. They survive by stealing people's bodies and taking them over. Which probably means..." she trailed off, her eyes narrowing. "This monster here is most likely Macao, taken over by a Vulcan."

Noir nodded, taking in the information. Before he could reply, Cana smirked and traced a finger over his chest. "By the way, how long are you planning to hold me like this?"

"As long as you'll let me, dear lady," Noir said with a wink, earning a giggle from her. She stepped out of his arms, and his attention snapped back to the Vulcan, who was now seething with rage. "Well, let's take care of this thing first," he said, cracking his knuckles."

"I defeat you and take the pretty lady!" the Vulcan roared, raising its massive arms high before slamming them down toward Noir.

Noir dodged effortlessly, grabbing Cana's waist and pulling her out of harm's way. Setting her down a safe distance away, he turned back to the creature and smirked. "Let's see how you handle this. Fusion Flare!"

A sphere of flames surrounded by glowing rings appeared in Noir's hand. He launched it at the Vulcan, and the resulting explosion lit up the cave, shaking its walls before consuming the monster.

Noir scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "Maybe I overdid it a bit."

"You think?" Cana deadpanned, crossing her arms.

As the smoke cleared, the Vulcan was revealed, charred and dazed. It collapsed to the ground and began to transform. Moments later, Macao's battered, unconscious form lay in its place.

"Hey! We found him!" Noir cheered, pointing at Macao's body.

Cana smacked her palm against her face and sighed. "Yep. You're definitely going to fit in at Fairy Tail."

To be continued...
