Chapter 27: The Family Mission and Regret
" So do I need to increase the heat instantly or gradually increase it with time? " Akira asked as he watched the man finish setting up everything. Although he heard everything from his unique skill, he still needed to keep the act.
" I need the heat to be instant, and you also need to constantly keep the heat at a high degree, " the man said as he looked at Akira with a bit of hesitation. He was still skeptical about this.
After all, how could a brat who looked like he didn't even have his first beer have the precise fire control that is needed to melt this rare metal? The only reason why he even went along with this was that he had already lost all hope about this.
The blacksmith's name is Kelvin Rockstone. He came from a long line of blacksmiths who made various famous weapons for the royal family of the Kingdom of Fiore. In fact, in the early stages of the kingdom's birth, their family was once the exclusive blacksmith for the royal family.
Kelvin had grown up learning of his ancestor's past glories from his father. This is why he even joined the knight order in his youth. However, after a few years of service, he retired from his duty due to the passing of his father.
The reason was that his father, a world-famous blacksmith, had one regret in his life. And that is, he didn't manage to create a weapon out of orichalcum. Despite having a chunk of orichalcum that their family managed to acquire ages ago, none were able to melt it.
You see, similar to how rare orichalcum is, the way to create weapons is something that has been lost in ages of time. This is why weapons made of orichalcum are very precious, as no one knows how to create such weapons in the present.
Even his family, after so many, only deduced that to melt orichalcum, you need the help of a powerful fire magician. But apart from that, they had no other clue. But it is very clear that just the help of any fire wizard isn't enough to melt it. If it was that easy, then his family would have already done it.
Even Kelvin himself asked the help of many fire magicians before and got no results. So that is why when Akira came, he didn't really expect anything would change. He just wondered how this brat would handle it after he failed.
Akira, who heard every little detail, had a hard time controlling his expression. He really wanted to curse out loud for the injustice. In the quest form, there was no mention of this at all. Even if you kept the metal's name a secret, you should at least inform how difficult the quest is.
With this difficulty alone, this quest just turned into an A-rank quest that is borderline S-rank quests. And most importantly, the reward for this quest should be doubled, if not tripled.
' Sigh I should get this over with,' Akira thought as he took a bit of orichalcum ore into his hand. He first activated his Voice of All Things to check whether he could get an understanding of how to melt orichalcum from the ore itself.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work as he got no response from the ores. But this did allow Akira to confirm his hypothesis that his ability, Voice of All Things, works only on spiritual objects and beings.
Well, there goes his dream of becoming a genius detective who could solve any crime scene just by picking up a random pebble from the ground.
Well, not all hope is lost, as in this world most objects become spiritual objects due to coming into contact with magic power for a long time. Especially for weapons that would be able to awaken their spiritual mind if the wielder was a decent person who looked after their weapons earnestly.
" Hey uncle, you wouldn't mind me running a few analyses on this, would you? " Akira asked as he looked at Kelvin. Since his unique skill isn't any help, he needs to switch to plan B.
"Sure, but don't take much time. I need to open the shop, "Kelvin said as he yawned.
"Okay. " Akira nodded as he activated his Take Over Magic and turned into Rimuru Tempest. And then he began to run a deep analysis as he secretly used predators on a small part of Ore.
In a matter of seconds, Great Sage began to show her magic as she displayed a bunch of details that only Akira could see. Reading the report, Akira finally understood why no one was able to melt this ore.
You see, orichalcum has very high magic resistance and heat resistance properties. So to really melt this ore, you would need to have a fire that far exceeds its resistance. In the past, the fire magic used by wizards managed to bypass the magic resistance, but they failed to bypass the heat resistance.
Just pouring magic power into a fireball spell doesn't make it more hotter. It just increased the fireball's size or increased the destruction it would cause. To make the flames hotter, there are two methods.
One is to enhance the concept of burning in the flames. This is the method Natsu uses as his flames burn from the intense emotions he has.
The second method is to use a more scientific method, which is what Akira is going to use.
" You might need to take a step back, " Akira warned Kelvin before he began to activate his magic.
A magic circle appeared on his right hand as an orange flame appeared. Then Akira began to create another magic circle as a small tornado appeared on his left hand. Akira then brought these magic circles together while manipulating the fire and wind to rotate.
The flames began to wither, but with Akira balancing the magic power supplied to both spells, the flames began to rise again. Slowly the flames changed from orange to red and then dark red before finally turning into blue.
And at this point, the temperature in the smithy had already risen considerably. Blue flames are the next hottest flames that everyone could see in gas cookers and such. Usually, such flames are not that hot, but in a fantasy world where world rules are changed Blue flames such as this are the next evolution of orange flames due to an increase in oxygen level.
Although Akira could make this blue flame turn into white flames, the hottest flames there are, he didn't think the smithy could handle such temperatures.
" I just need to put the flames in the furnace right, "Akira asked the shocked Kelvin.
"Yeah, if you wouldn't mind, " Kelvin said respectfully as he realized that this kid in front of him is the real deal.
For all his life he had never felt such hot flames despite traveling all around the world for years. This gave him hope again.
' I may just be able to fulfill our family's mission,' Kelvin thought as a smile appeared on his face. Just thinking of the great future, his hands were itching with anticipation.
