Chapter 4: Ch 4 : Unforgettable Scars
"Alright, now you're officially a Fairy Tail wizard." Mira smiled as she pressed the magical stamp onto the back of Lucy's right hand.
Lucy admired the Fairy Tail emblem on her hand, grinning joyfully before rushing off to show it off to Natsu.
Mira quietly watched Lucy's retreating figure, her beautiful smile gradually turning bitter.
"Thinking of... her again?" Noel noticed Mira's expression and softly asked.
Mira gently nodded. "It seems so. Lisanna was just as lively. If she were still alive, she'd probably be about Lucy's age now."
Noel silently observed Lucy playing around with Natsu.
Since that incident, the guild members had tacitly agreed never to mention Lisanna's name in front of Mira.
Noel, however, was one of the few besides Elfman who could speak about Lisanna with her.
Noel opened his mouth as if to say something but ultimately stayed silent.
Having experienced a similar pain and bearing scars perhaps deeper than Mira's, he understood all too well the despair and agony of watching someone most precious die while being powerless to stop it.
In such moments, any words of comfort seemed hollow and meaningless.
(Hal... if only I had... maybe you wouldn't have died. The moment I saw you die before my eyes, I was filled with hatred—hating myself for not being able to stop her, for not noticing her abnormalities sooner. I hated... them. That insane family. That madman.)
"Damn it!" A heartbroken cry pulled Noel back to reality.
He turned toward the voice and saw a young boy running out of the guild with tears streaming down his face.
Was that Macao's son? Noel raised an eyebrow slightly.
Bang! Natsu suddenly punched the job request board, cracking it with force before turning silently and walking out of the guild.
"Natsu, don't go around breaking stuff!" Nab called out helplessly, standing in front of the damaged board.
"Huh?" Lucy was surprised as she watched Natsu's departing figure. "What's up with him?"
"Natsu's probably going to help Macao... or rather, Macao's son," Noel said softly.
"Because Natsu is like Romeo, isn't he?" Mira added quietly.
"Huh?"
"Because Natsu's father also disappeared and never returned. He probably sees a reflection of himself in Romeo," Mira explained before recounting Natsu's past to Lucy.
"We are Fairy Tail wizards. Everyone here is carrying something... scars, sorrow, pain." Mira's voice gradually faded, likely thinking of Lisanna once again.
"If you're worried about Natsu, you should go after him, Lucy. I don't feel comfortable letting Natsu go alone either," Noel said with a smile.
Knowing Natsu's personality, he'd surely cause a massive commotion.
Having Lucy along would at least help remind him to stay somewhat reasonable.
"It'll be a good warm-up for officially starting your work with Fairy Tail."
After hesitating for a moment, Lucy ran out to find Natsu.
The guild, however, fell into a heavy silence following the earlier events.
Fairy Tail wizards—each of them carried a past they couldn't bear to look back on.
That's why they stayed in this guild.
Because none of them had a true home.
They masked their past pains through wild and reckless noise, slowly healing their wounds in their own way.
They didn't need sympathy or comfort from others.
Their scars would heal someday, even if it took a long, long time.
Even if those scars would never completely fade.
As long as they were together, there was no need to fear—whether it was darkness or even hell itself.
"You're not going after them?" Mira suddenly asked.
"Hmm?"
"You're actually worried too, aren't you?" Mira, one of the few people in the guild who could keenly sense Noel's subtle emotional changes, picked up on his thoughts.
Noel shook his head. "Natsu can handle it. He doesn't need me to go after him."
Noel trusted Natsu because Natsu had a quality that Noel lacked—an intense, fiery spirit capable of touching and inspiring the hearts of others.

"Welcome back, Macao. It's rare to see you in such a sorry state," Noel remarked, looking at the battered and bruised Macao standing before him.
"Oh, Noel, looks like I'll have to trouble you again, haha." Despite being covered in injuries, Macao seemed to be in good spirits, which made Noel breathe a sigh of relief.
"Romeo's still waiting for you. Go see him as soon as you're done."
"Yeah, that's what I thought too, which is why I came to the guild to find you first," Macao said, scratching his head sheepishly.
Noel's hand glowed with a gentle white light that enveloped Macao.
Within seconds, his wounds were completely healed.
"Thanks a lot, Noel," Macao said as he unwrapped the bandages from his body.
Lucy watched in amazement.
Although she'd read in The Most Popular Male Wizards magazine that Noel's Holy Light magic had an exceptional healing effect, the article had only briefly described it.
Seeing it in person was far more astonishing—it felt nothing short of miraculous.
Noticing Lucy's surprised gaze, Noel explained, "My magic has its limitations. I can only heal simple external injuries. If it's a life-threatening or severe wound, I can only stabilize the condition." Lucy nodded in understanding.
A magic without limitations would indeed be too overwhelming.
As they left the guild and rounded a corner, they saw Macao's son, Romeo, sitting alone on the steps with a forlorn expression.
When Romeo spotted Macao approaching, he immediately lit up and threw himself into his father's arms.
"Thank you, Natsu big brother, and Lucy big sister!" Romeo waved to Natsu and Lucy, his face beaming under the glow of the setting sun.
Standing quietly at the street corner, Noel watched the scene unfold.
A flicker of envy, nostalgia, and a deep, searing sorrow flashed in his eyes.
Memories surged through his mind.
A young boy struggling, desperately reaching out toward a distant figure (Lia, I will save you. I swear I'll come for you! Lia, please wait for me!)
The same boy curled up, trembling as he stared at a man's cold, indifferent expression (It hurts... it hurts so much. Why? Why are you doing this to me? What did I do wrong? Answer me! Please, Father, answer me!).
The boy stared in agony at the girl with a cold expression, her body covered in blood. (Lia, how did you become like this? No, this can't be real. Tell me it's not true!)
(Because I hate you... Your birth took her life away. That's why I hate you both!)
The memory froze on the man's face just before his death—a mix of relief and hatred.
Fragments of sealed memories flickered through his mind as two tears fell to the dusty ground, disappearing into an unnoticed corner—mourning a past that could never be reclaimed, grieving for a familial bond forever lost.
(Was it really your choice? Did you truly hate our existence so much? I don't understand... I truly don't. Why did you do that? Was it because in your eyes, she and I were nothing but beings that robbed her of her life? Even though your blood flows within us?)
