Chapter 34: Ch 34 : Supreme
On the Magic Giant, the battle between the members of the Ten Wizard Saints continued.
However, this time, the situation was no longer evenly matched.
"Hahaha, what's wrong, Noel Rutherford? Why aren't you fighting back? Haha, aren't you supposed to be strong? The youngest member of the Ten Wizard Saints—what a joke!" Joseph laughed maniacally, continuously unleashing waves of purple magic, forming ghostly specters that bombarded the already battered young man.
"Noel, don't worry about me! You can't keep this up—if this continues, you'll die!" Lucy, held in Joseph's grasp, cried out desperately, her tears streaming as she watched the golden-haired boy being struck again and again.
The golden-haired boy steadied his breathing, which had already become irregular.
Blocking Joseph's attack once more with both hands, he turned to Lucy and forced a small smile. "It's okay. I will save you, Lucy. No matter what."
Seeing the blood trickling down Noel's body, Lucy's tears wouldn't stop flowing.
At that moment, she felt utterly powerless—not only had she failed to help, but she had also become a burden to him.
"Haha, what incredible endurance. I haven't even used my full power, but I must say, you've lasted longer than I expected. Let's see how much longer you can entertain me, Noel Rutherford." Joseph smirked wickedly before launching another blast of purple magic, sending the young man flying once again.
"Ugh!" Noel coughed up another mouthful of blood. (Am I at my limit? Damn it—there has to be a way. There has to be a way to turn this around!)
Countless plans ran through Noel's mind, but he dismissed them one after another.
Lost in thought, he failed to notice the faint purple hue slowly creeping into his right eye, spreading ever so subtly.
"So, you've reached your limit, huh? Oh well, I've had my fun. Now, it's ti—AH! YOU LITTLE…!"
Joseph's expression suddenly twisted in pain as he let out a loud cry.
Lucy had seized the moment while he was talking—sinking her teeth deep into his arm.
With a furious swing, Joseph flung Lucy to the ground, clutching his arm as he glared at her with pure malice.
"Damn it! You really don't know your place, you little brat. I haven't even settled the last score with you—this time, let me teach you a lesson on behalf of your father."
Enraged, Joseph stomped down viciously on Lucy's arm.
"Ahh!" A sharp pain shot through her arm, forcing Lucy to shut her eyes and cry out in agony.
"Let. Her. Go."
A cold, emotionless voice reached Lucy's ears.
She opened her eyes, only to see Noel again—but something about him sent a deep chill through her heart.
His once golden hair had turned silver-white.
His originally sky-blue right eye was now half-closed, revealing an elegant yet eerie shade of purple.
Within his violet pupil, a six-pointed star slowly rotated.
Meanwhile, his sky-blue left eye had become completely vacant and lifeless, as if he had lost all awareness.
"Huh? What's this, Noel Rutherford? Did you take so much damage that your hair turned white?" Joseph sneered, though a faint sense of unease crept into his heart.
Noel didn't respond.
His face remained expressionless as he slowly stepped forward, approaching Joseph one step at a time.
"You're asking for death!"
Feeling humiliated by Noel's disregard, Joseph's eyes darkened with malice.
A purple ghostly specter shot toward Noel with immense speed and power—this time, it was a full-force attack, far stronger than before.
But to Joseph's shock, Noel simply raised his right hand slowly.
Then, as if swatting away an insect, he casually waved his hand—and the purple specter was instantly deflected, sent hurtling into the sky.
"No… Impossible! I don't believe it!" Joseph shouted, his entire body surging with magical energy.
One after another, purple specters shot toward Noel.
"How insignificant… insect, do you even understand the gravity of blasphemy against a God?" Noel spoke indifferently, his half-closed right eye suddenly snapping open.
In an instant, Joseph's attacks vanished into thin air, as if they had never existed in the first place.
"H-How… how is this possible…" Joseph stared blankly at the scene before him.
The next moment, a pale, slender hand—its fingers refined and elegant like those of a pianist—grasped his throat.
With just a light squeeze, Joseph was effortlessly lifted into the air like a mere child.
"Ahh!" Joseph let out a cry, his magic erupting wildly from his body.
The purple energy surged toward the sky, splitting the clouds apart.
But almost instantly, an even more terrifying force emanated from Noel's body, shredding Joseph's magic into nothingness.
"N-No… Impossible!"
For the first time, fear surfaced on Joseph's face.
Everything that had just happened completely shattered his understanding of reality.
"Insect, repent. I have granted you time for repentance," Noel said coldly, his expression devoid of emotion.
"Noel!"
"Noel, are you okay?!"
Suddenly, voices rang out.
Noel slowly turned his head, his expression calm as his gaze fell upon Erza, Gray, Elfman, and Mirajane.
"Noel… what happened to you?"
Sensing that something was wrong, Erza stepped forward, blocking the others.
She carefully examined Noel's silver-white hair, his cold, indifferent face, and his now purple, six-pointed star-shaped pupils.
A deep sense of unease filled her heart.
Noel glanced at them with indifference, then turned back to Joseph.
"Insect, have you finished repenting? I have already given you more than enough time."
"W-Who would repent…?" Joseph's face was deathly pale as he stared at Noell.
"Is that so? What a pity." Noel's already cold expression didn't change in the slightest at Joseph's words. "Then, you can die now."
A terrifying aura surged from Noel's body—an overwhelming, supreme pressure, as if an existence far above all creation was gazing down from the heavens.
Under this immense pressure, no one could remain standing; they all fell to their knees, unable to resist. Joseph, who bore the full force of it, let out a shrill, agonized scream.
"H-How… Noel… what's happening…?" Erza struggled to speak, kneeling on the ground.
"D-Damn it… what's going on?" Gray, Elfman, and Mirajane were also collapsed on the ground, staring at Noel, who now resembled a true demon lord.
Suddenly, that horrifying aura began to fade.
Noel tossed Joseph aside, his hand clutching his own hair, his face contorted in pain.
His voice became fragmented, as if two people were speaking at once.
"Go back… Get back inside! I won't… I won't let you come out!"
"Hmph, getting beaten so badly by an insect… How pathetic."
"It has nothing to do with you… Get out… Get out of my head!!"
Gradually, Noel's silver-white hair returned to its golden color, and the purple in his right eye faded away.
He pressed a hand over his right eye, his body leaning against the wall as he gasped for breath.
