Chapter 33: Ch 33 : Porlyusica
The scorching heat filled the lush green forest, and the sweltering temperature made even the leaves and the heavy earth feel as if they were being scorched.
Evaporation, suffocation, devastation, oppression—whether it was the blazing midday sun or the distant conflict, it felt as if they were tearing apart every fiber and cell of existence.
From time to time, distant explosions and surges of magical energy echoed through the air, signaling the terrifying battle raging far away—one that seemed capable of shattering the very heavens and earth.
Yet, here in this place, there was only peace, a tranquility as serene as a hidden paradise from legend.
"The trees, the earth, the air… all are trembling in fear, as if foretelling the arrival of a storm…"
A dark cloak draped over her shoulders, and though deep wrinkles lined her face, traces of the stunning beauty she once possessed in her youth could still be seen in the elderly woman with soft pink hair.
Porlyusica, the renowned healing mage, lived alone in the eastern forest of Magnolia.
Due to its remote location, the area had long been considered part of Fairy Tail's territory.
Despite her dislike for humans, Porlyusica possessed extraordinary healing magic, which made her presence both invaluable and enigmatic.
Even among Fairy Tail's members, she remained a mystery—an elusive recluse known only to dwell within this secluded land.
Naturally, rumors had spread throughout the guild that she was once the old lover of their master, Makarov.
Whether there was any truth to it, no one dared to find out.
"That's why I always say… humans are foolish creatures who do nothing but weave their stories through conflict."
Truthfully, Porlyusica's personality was just a more aged version of Erza's. And in moments like this, despite her years, she was doing something entirely unbecoming of her age and composure—using a broom as a weapon to smack all the apples off the nearby trees.
One apple went flying and landed at the feet of an approaching figure.
The newcomer reached out, picking up the fallen apple from the ground.
A dark cloak wrapped tightly around his body, his arms and lower legs covered in white bandages.
A shadowed hat and mask concealed his face, leaving only a pair of cold, piercing eyes visible.
"Mystogan?" Porlyusica looked at the newcomer and softly spoke his name—the man known as one of Fairy Tail's three strongest candidates, Mystogan.
"Can I eat this?" Mystogan asked as he examined the apple in his hand.
"I see… I was wondering why Makarov recovered so quickly. You were the one who gathered Makarov's magic power, weren't you?" Porlyusica spoke in a tone that sounded like a question but was, in fact, a statement of certainty.
Mystogan did not respond. Instead, he took a bite of the apple.
Porlyusica scolded, "Don't just eat it without asking!"
Ignoring her, Mystogan spoke calmly, "The war will soon be over. Joseph's actions have completely enraged Noel. Against a serious Noel, Joseph won't stand a chance."
Porlyusica sighed. "I don't want to encourage human conflicts, but you are one of Makarov's allies, aren't you? Hurry up and leave, then go fight to your heart's content."
A gentle breeze swept through the air, carrying countless banners marked with the Phantom Lord emblem.
They fluttered like wingless butterflies of five different colors, drifting slowly down from the sky.
The sight of those fallen banners, bearing the Phantom Lord insignia, seemed to symbolize the inevitable downfall of that foolish and envious guild—along with its leader.
Porlyusica's expression shifted slightly as she observed the scene.
"The Phantom Lord's flags… Don't tell me you single-handedly destroyed all of their branch guilds?"
Even for a seasoned and renowned mage like Porlyusica, she couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
After all, Phantom Lord's branches were spread throughout the entire kingdom.
Forget about the sheer effort and time required to take them down—even just traveling across the entire kingdom was no easy task.
"No, this was the combined work of Laxus and me. Noel handled the rest. Each of us was responsible for clearing one-third of their forces. Also, I'd like another apple."
"You're not planning to just leave all this garbage here, are you?" Porlyusica grumbled before continuing, "Honestly, I have nothing more to say to you people. Excessive power only brings more sorrow. And… things caught in the vortex of tragedy are often forgotten in the wake of anger."
People only knew that Porlyusica despised humans, but few understood why.
There was no such thing as love without reason, nor hatred without cause.
In this chaotic era, humans were indeed such creatures—creating more bloodshed through bloodshed, and more sorrow through sorrow.
Having witnessed it all, Porlyusica had chosen to live in seclusion in this remote place, isolating herself from the world.
Mystogan lifted his head and gazed at the vast blue sky, his voice carrying an inexplicable tone. "I want to believe in that sacred light that embraces all… the guiding light of divinity."
For a moment, silence hung between them.
Just then, an overwhelming force suddenly erupted from the distance.
A crushing pressure, as if a God were gazing down upon mere ants, bore down on them.
It was as if an existence of absolute supremacy had awakened.
The incomparable force made both of their expressions change, and under its weight, they instinctively dropped to one knee.
"This is bad… That idiot Makarov—has Noel lost control?! How is that possible? With Joseph's strength, he shouldn't have been able to push Noel to the point of losing control!"
For the first time, panic flickered in Porlyusica's voice as she widened her eyes, staring toward the distant horizon.
"Noel losing control? What's going on?" Mystogan, rarely showing surprise, asked with a frown.
Porlyusica remained silent for a few seconds before speaking in a complex tone. "Noel… is not as simple as you think. That child carries a burden far heavier than you could ever imagine. Inside him… lurks a monster. If he truly loses control, then the consequences… Forget Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord—even the entire Kingdom of Fiore won't be able to withstand it."
"What do you mean?" Mystogan asked, confusion evident in his voice.
Porlyusica shook her head, gritting her teeth as she struggled against the overwhelming pressure.
Trembling slightly, she forced herself to stand and looked toward the source of the terrifying aura.
(Noel, you have to hold on… Before you completely lose control, you must stop yourself. Otherwise… once you fully awaken, there won't be anyone on this continent who can stop you.)
Author Note :
P.S.: Regarding Noel's personality, some might be confused about his shifts in demeanor. In truth, Noel is the type of person who is as warm as a spring breeze toward his friends but as merciless as a storm against his enemies. Also, in the next chapter—Noel loses control, and Joseph is in serious trouble.
