Chapter 15: Ch 15 : Conference
Magic Council - Era
"The reason for gathering everyone here today should be clear to all of you."
In a dimly lit room, a magic circle on the floor slowly rotated as the ten members of the Council appeared in a circle as thought projections.
"This is about the Dark Guild—Eisenwald attempting to use Lullaby to harm the regional guild masters, correct?"
"That's right. Thanks to the timely intervention of Fairy Tail's members, this incident was prevented. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable," said Yajima, one of the Council members and a close friend of Makarov.
"The members of Eisenwald, except for the Reaper Erigor, have all been arrested. A bounty for Erigor's capture has already been issued to various guilds."
"Even though Eisenwald has been eliminated, the root of the problem remains unresolved."
"There are as many Dark Guilds as there are stars in the sky."
"Then we should carry out a cleansing operation."
"How exactly do we do that?"
At this question, the entire Council fell silent.
Though they were all thoroughly frustrated with the Dark Guilds, completely eradicating them was an impossible task.
The only reason Dark Guilds had been kept in check was due to their lack of unified leadership and their internal conflicts.
Even the Balam Alliance was merely a pact of non-aggression rather than a true union.
However, if the Council launched an extermination campaign, the situation would change—faced with the threat of survival, the Dark Guilds would undoubtedly unite.
If that happened, it would be the official guilds and the Council that would find themselves in a difficult position.
"If another Zeref-related magic is stolen like this, I won't be able to handle it," the elder seated in the center said with a troubled expression.
Fortunately, the entity released this time was Lullaby, which had already lost most of its power.
If it had been one of the stronger demons, the consequences would have been catastrophic.
"Speaking of which, how could such magic be stolen so easily?"
"It seems like this has already become a matter of responsibility at the management level."
At the mention of this issue, everyone's expression turned serious.
This incident almost confirmed that a spy had infiltrated the Magic Council—and not just any spy, but one with a high-ranking position.
"That being said, Fairy Tail, which was previously considered a troublesome guild, seems to have saved everyone this time," Siegrain said, crossing his arms with a meaningful expression.
"Just four or five people managed to wipe out an entire guild. That's quite impressive," Ultear covered the corner of her mouth with her sleeve, letting out a laugh that sounded like a mix of mockery and admiration.
"I know you all don't want to acknowledge it, but it's a fact. If the guild masters had been killed because of Lullaby, the situation would have become extremely serious. And among us present here, there would certainly be a few who would have to step down," Siegrain said calmly, watching as the expressions of the Council members shifted.
"How could that be? Are you really trying to escalate the issue of responsibility to such a level?"
"Unreasonable."
"Their reckless actions have caused us quite a bit of trouble this time as well."
"I'll be frank—I would personally go and thank them," Siegrain said with a subtle meaning behind his words.
However, aside from Ultear, no one present seemed to catch on.
"Ahem." The elderly man at the center coughed a few times, drawing everyone's attention. "Let's move on to the next agenda item. Regarding the Super Magic used by the Saint Wizard Noel during the Lullaby incident—the one capable of purifying Zeref's demons—what are your thoughts?"
Siegrain furrowed his brows but remained silent.
Ultear also fell into deep thought, a contemplative look flashing in her eyes.
"If we can persuade Noel Rutherford to share this Super Magic with us, then the demons of Zeref that have plagued us for so long could potentially be eradicated entirely."
"That's true, but will he cooperate so easily? As one of the Ten Wizard Saints, he has the right to refuse our request. If I possessed such powerful magic, I wouldn't be so willing to hand it over either."
"This magic has already surpassed our understanding of magical theory. The fact that Noel Rutherford was able to cast such a spell—one that directly connects to an unknown dimension—suggests an unimaginable amount of magical power. And yet, he managed to do it on his own. Truly astonishing."
"Actually, it's not that surprising when you consider the family he comes from. That family, though mysteriously destroyed ten years ago, was undeniably powerful. Even during the era when Zeref wreaked havoc across the continent, they remained untouched. As the only known survivor of the so-called 'Descendants of the Gods,' it's not strange at all that Noel Rutherford possesses such extraordinary abilities."
The Council fell into silence once again.
They all had their own records and intelligence regarding that family, fully aware of just how terrifyingly powerful it once was.
The title Descendants of the Gods was not self-proclaimed—it was an acknowledgment of their lineage, tracing back to an actual deity from the Age of the Gods.
That family's actions had always been extremely enigmatic—they seemed to be fanatically pursuing something, showing no interest in anything else.
Even during the era when Zeref ravaged the continent, they never interfered.
However, what puzzled and shocked the Council members even more was the fact that such a powerful family had somehow been destroyed.
The sole survivor, Noel Rutherford, refused to reveal anything about it, turning the event into an unsolved mystery that had persisted for decades.
Breaking the silence, Yajima suddenly spoke. "In fact, I received a report yesterday from Fairy Tail regarding the Super Magic Noel Rutherford used. Take a look for yourselves."
With that, Yajima projected a virtual copy of the report to everyone present.
The report was brief, only providing a simple description of the conditions and effects of the spell Salvation and Rebirth.
However, one particular line stood out:
"Condition #3 – The caster must possess the bloodline of a God to use it as a coordinate to connect with another world."
This single sentence shattered any lingering ambitions among the Council members who had been intrigued by the magic.
Even those who had doubts about its exclusivity had to concede—given Noel's strength, there was no realistic way to force the matter.
Siegrain gazed at the document in his hands, his eyes glimmering with interest.
(Noel Rutherford, huh? What an unpredictable variable... But that's exactly why this excites me. As one of the youngest Ten Wizard Saints alongside me, just how much amusement can you bring me? Heh...)
A cryptic smile curled at the corner of Siegrain's lips.
