Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 14: Ch 14 : Salvation and Rebirth

Noel took a deep breath, feeling a faint trace of nervousness in his heart.

The ritual he was about to perform was exceedingly difficult.

Ever since that incident, he had lost the ability to summon that power.

With his current abilities, he had only a fifty percent chance of success.

Even if he succeeded, he would likely need several days of rest.

However, Noel did not hesitate in the slightest.

Even if only for the sake of these lost souls, he had to give it his all.

Pressing his hands together, he closed his eyes and began chanting the incantation.

"This body is destined to be eternal and undying,

Willing to bear all the evils of this world with my broken form.

Willing to spread all the kindness of this world as a vessel of mercy.

Though stained by countless impurities, my heart remains as clear as a mirror..."

In the sky, a massive magic circle silently appeared.

Beams of light cascaded down like a celestial waterfall, gathering within the formation.

The entire world became enveloped in the purest white—warm, sacred, and cleansing.

Every trace of pain, every injury, was instantly healed by the radiance.

"...Unknown to all,

Unrecognized by any.

Having endured countless tribulations, yet never wavering in resolve.

This existence exists solely for this purpose.

Alone, wandering endlessly upon the throne..."

As the light condensed, an enormous, magnificent golden gate materialized in midair.

For a fleeting moment, it seemed as though angelic voices were singing—pure and ethereal, distant yet intimate, as if whispering directly into one's ears.

Memories of the past flickered like smoke.

In that instant, everyone saw their most cherished moments—parents, family, companions, friends... Smiling faces became clearer in their minds, as if illuminated by the divine light.

A deep sense of serenity and emotion spread across every face, even as they knew it was only an illusion.

"...Grant redemption to all lost souls,

Let them not fall into the abyss,

Let them not weep for eternity,

Let them not drown in pain,

Let them not lose hope.

All beings beneath the sky,

Hear my voice,

Pray to me with sincere hearts,

Listen to the melody from the heavens above,

Gaze upon the throne of the Supreme.

I shall guide you onto the path of salvation.

Thus, my existence no longer holds meaning,

For this life's sole prayer is—Salvation and Rebirth.

Buzz— As the final word left Noel's lips, the massive gate in the sky slowly creaked open.

An eternal presence seeped through from the other side.

The shattered remains of Lullaby disintegrated, and countless azure orbs of light emerged from within—purest souls of the world.

One by one, they ascended toward the heavenly gate, vanishing beyond its threshold.

"Thank you!"

Voices, each distinct yet united in gratitude, echoed in Noel's ears.

These were the voices of those who had once known only despair, now given salvation.

A faint smile tugged at Noel's lips.

He said nothing, simply basking in the serene tranquility, as the radiant divine light washed over all.

As the last soul stepped through the gate, the magnificent golden doorway in the sky slowly closed before vanishing without a trace.

The white light dissipated, yet the awe-inspiring sight remained etched in everyone's hearts.

The guild masters exchanged glances.

"What… kind of magic was that?" Goldmine asked hesitantly.

What had just occurred was far beyond anything he had ever witnessed.

Even with his vast experience, he couldn't determine whether what Noel had used was truly magic.

It had surpassed the limits of their understanding.

Everyone shook their heads in silence.

Suddenly—Pfft!

Noel coughed up a mouthful of blood, his body swaying before collapsing backward.

Erza, standing closest to him, reacted instantly, catching him just in time.

"Noel!" she cried out in alarm as everyone rushed over.

Lying in Erza's arms, Noel's right eye was tightly shut, a crimson trail of blood running from his eye down to his chin.

"Cough… Cough…" He spat out more blood, then lifted his left eye to meet Erza's pained expression, his gaze filled with an apologetic light.

"Sorry… I might have overdone it this time."

Erza shook her head furiously, holding him tighter.

"Idiot! Don't push yourself like this! If something happened to you, I'd never forgive myself!"

Noel forced a weak smile.

"I'll be fine. Though the injuries are serious, there's nothing that can't be healed… Just… Cough… I'll need to rest for a few days."

Erza's gaze was firm as she looked at him.

"Noel, promise me—don't push yourself like this ever again!"

Seeing the worry in her teary, crimson eyes, Noel gave a small nod and said apologetically,

"I'm sorry… There won't be a next time."

As soon as he finished speaking, his vision blurred.

Inside, Noel let out a bitter chuckle.

(As expected… This spell is still too much for me. With my soul still weakened from that time, trying to wield [His] power was incredibly difficult. If [He] hadn't helped me midway, I probably would've passed out before even finishing the spell…)

Pain surged through every inch of his body.

Noel could no longer hold on—his consciousness faded, and he collapsed into darkness.

-----------

"It's been over a decade since we last met properly, hasn't it?"

Within the realm of consciousness, Noel gazed at the glowing orb before him.

"Still, I really appreciate your help just now. If it weren't for you, my spell would have failed."

The orb remained silent for a few seconds before a cold, emotionless voice rang out.

"Why are you so stubborn? Why do you persist in clinging to humans—such insignificant ants? You and I are one and the same. If you merge with me and become a being who reigns upon the throne of heaven, casting such a simple spell would be effortless."

Noel shook his head without hesitation.

"I am human. That is my one and only conviction. If I merge with you, with your overwhelming power, you would inevitably take control of my body. I… I do not want to become you."

"Why? Is it because of the so-called 'bonds' of humanity? What is this human emotion?"

"Bonds…?"

Noel was momentarily taken aback.

Then, as if coming to an understanding, he smiled softly.

Lowering his head in thought, he pondered for a moment before speaking.

"Bonds are a kind of fate."

"Fate?" The cold voice carried a trace of confusion.

"Yes, bonds are a kind of fate, a vow, a connection between emotions—a powerful link between two people, as if tethered by an invisible thread. It is similar to 'destiny.' It may seem intangible, yet it is deeply rooted in one's heart, impossible to erase. When you are on the verge of giving up, drowning in despair, it is bonds that grant you hope and strength, making you stronger than ever. As long as you hold onto your bonds, you will never lose hope."

Noel tried his best to put his understanding of bonds into words for the glowing entity before him.

"Is this the reason you are so determined to remain human?"

"Yes."

The glowing orb fell into silence once more.

After a long pause, it finally spoke.

"Let's make a bet."

Noel furrowed his brows.

"A bet?"

"Prove to me, through your actions, that what you cling to truly holds meaning. If bonds can indeed make you stronger, then you win—I will willingly merge with you, and you will retain control of this body. But if you fail, then regardless of your will, even in my weakened state, I will force the fusion. Your body will be mine to control. You should know—you cannot suppress me forever. I am but a fragment of your own soul, so eliminating me is impossible."

The orb's voice was cold yet unwavering.

"Why… do you want to make this bet?" Noel asked, his voice filled with curiosity.

"Because… I am confused. That reason alone is enough."

"…I understand. I will prove it to you."

After a brief moment of contemplation, Noel nodded in agreement.
