Chapter 12: Chapter 11: Future path.
[A week later. Porlyusica's house.]
"I'm ready," Eros stood in the center of a star-shaped magic circle with various symbols drawn at its corners, holding a lacrima in his hands.
"Okay, now channel your magic power into the lacrima," Porlyusica instructed from the side. Following her directions, the lacrima in Eros's hands began to glow brightly. Soon after, the magic circle emitted a brilliant rainbow glow, surrounding the titan and penetrating his body. "Do not resist; the spell will not harm you. It will merely measure your magic and determine its attributes."
After a minute, the light dimmed and split into three parts. The first part was pure white and transparent, the second dark scarlet, emanating an oppressive aura as though it could absorb everything. The last was pitch black, chaotic, and impossible to control, exuding disorder and destruction. Moments later, the lacrima in Eros's hand shattered into fragments, and the magic circle faded. An eerie silence enveloped the clearing.
Porlyusica, who had observed the ritual from start to finish, experienced an unprecedented wave of shock and horror—not towards the child himself, but towards the immense force hidden within him.
"Well, what do you think?" Eros's voice snapped her out of her stupor. She quickly regained her composure, masking her unease behind a neutral expression. Eros, however, understood that what had manifested was far from "good." Each of the forces symbolized only one thing—destruction and chaos.
Seeing his worried face, Porlyusica placed a hand on his head. "Don't dwell on it," she said in an unusually gentle tone. "It's not magic that defines you, but how you choose to use it."
"How I use it... right?" Eros repeated. Porlyusica nodded. "Yes. There is no dark or light magic. It is the mage who decides whether it becomes light or dark through their actions."
"Thank you," he said with a bright smile, looking at her. Porlyusica smiled slightly in return, stroking his head. "Auntie, I have a question."
"How many times must I tell you not to call me 'auntie'?" she retorted, her gaze hardening as a broom appeared in her hand.
"SORRY!" Eros yelped, vanishing in an instant.
The following days were spent studying the books in Porlyusica's house and practicing magic. Intrigued by Eros's "Bullet of Destruction," Porlyusica remarked that his power resembled that of a Fairy Tail guild member. She explained that their abilities were alike, suggesting that Eros could learn much from him if they ever met. That mage was Gildarts, an S-rank wizard and the guild's strongest member. Incidentally, Gildarts was currently at the guild, giving Eros yet another reason to expedite his recovery and leave Porlyusica's house.
As for the last two attributes, Eros already knew what the darkest one was. However, no matter how much he tried to harness the red attribute, it eluded him entirely. Frustrated yet determined, Eros decided to focus on mastering the Power of Destruction for now. Over the next few days, he immersed himself in both training and studying Porlyusica's literature.
On his final day at her house, he declared that he was fully recovered and had overstayed his welcome. After receiving a magically-induced kick and a map from Porlyusica, Eros was effectively booted out. Yet he bore no resentment. During his stay, he had come to understand her well—she was a kind-hearted individual always ready to help, though her dislike of people was undeniable.
"Thank you, Auntie!" Eros shouted, bowing his head in gratitude.
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING AUNTIE?" an angry voice bellowed from the house.
"Bye!" Eros called back with a smile, glancing at the house one last time. "I'm off."
"IT'S ABOUT TIME! YOU'VE BEEN ON MY NERVES ALL MORNING!" If any Fairy Tail member had seen Porlyusica's expression at that moment, they might have had a heart attack—for she wore a genuine, good-natured smile.
"Take care of yourself," she muttered softly.
Halfway to Magnolia, Eros examined the map. "So, if I'm here, then Magnolia is five hours north. Let's go!"
En route, he spotted two familiar faces accompanied by an old man. Though the old man emitted no magical energy, Eros's past-life experience warned him to remain cautious around him.
"Eros?!" Rick exclaimed, clearly shocked to see the titan approaching. Roni echoed his cry.
"Hello," Eros greeted them with a wave.
"Sorry for not visiting you—it's that old woman—" Roni began, only to be cut off by a slap to the back of the head from Eros.
"For what?!" Roni protested indignantly.
"Don't call my savior that."
"But…" Roni began, but seeing Eros's frowning expression, he fell silent. "I understand, forgive me."
"You also forgive me for making you worry," Eros said, softening as he realized these fools had been concerned about him all this time.
"Are you sure you feel okay?" Rick asked with concern, having seen the severity of Eros's wounds himself.
"Yes, completely."
"That's good," Rick said with relief, then turned around abruptly. "That's right, Eros, meet the Master of Fairy Tail, Makarov Dreyar."
"Yo!" the old man smiled and waved. Eros knew the Fairy Tail Master had saved him, but his terrible condition back then left him unable to remember Makarov's appearance. Porlyusica, however, had filled him in, particularly emphasizing one phrase: "Sickeningly soft-hearted."
From that, Eros had already constructed a psychological profile. Seeing Makarov in person, he realized his assumptions were accurate. The old man's appearance seemed to scream, "I am the most ordinary old man," but appearances were often deceiving.
"Hello," Eros greeted, shaking Makarov's hand. "I am grateful to you for saving me."
"Forget it," Makarov replied with a smile.
"As you say, but if you ever need my help or I sense that you or your guild is in danger, I will help."
"Oh, you made me laugh," Makarov grinned. "Come join my guild; I like you!"
Eros was stunned by the old man's straightforwardness. "Of course, I'm honored, but forgive me," the titan said apologetically, "I can't join your guild."
After his words, an oppressive silence descended. Makarov's cheerful expression turned serious, his gloomy gaze fixed on Eros's smiling figure. Rick and Roni trembled with fear, praying to the gods for survival but still standing beside Eros.
"You refuse, right?" Makarov's serious tone made the two shudder, but Eros remained calm and returned the gaze with a slight smile. "If that's the case, then… okay."
"Huh?" Both magicians froze, staring at the grinning faces of Makarov and Eros.
"Old man, you shouldn't have scared them like that; they almost wet their pants."
"It's too late to joke," Makarov said, feigning indignation. Rick and Roni glared at the backs of the two men walking ahead, chatting as if nothing had happened.
"Jokes aside," Makarov said more seriously, "maybe you'd still consider joining a guild? These days, it's pretty hard to go solo."
"I understand that," Eros responded, "but I decided from the beginning that I wasn't going to join anything."
"Then what are you going to do next?"
"Travel," Eros said with a faint smile. "I want to see the world."
"And afterward?"
"I'll create my own guild."
"You should understand that a guild isn't a toy," Makarov remarked. He wasn't surprised by the statement, having overheard the conversation between Roni and Rick earlier.
"I know," Eros replied firmly. "That's why I'm leaving to travel—to gain experience and strength, and to find the best place to establish it."
"Ho… You have great prospects," Makarov said, smiling. "How about a bet?"
"A bet?"
"Yes. Seven years. You will have exactly seven years to become an S-rank mage."
"Interesting," Eros said, intrigued. "And what do I get if I win?"
"I see you're confident. What do you want?" Makarov asked. Eros pointed at the old man.
"Me?" Makarov asked in surprise.
"I'm not that cruel," Eros said with a chuckle. "I'll just need one favor from you."
"Hoh, I agree. But if I win, the four of you will join my guild." A smirk spread across Makarov's face. "And for arguing with your master, you'll also face punishment."
Eros blinked in confusion. "Four?"
"Yes—you, both of them, and the girl."
"I see." Eros glanced at the two behind him. "I understand about you, Roni, but I didn't expect this from the two of you. Why haven't you joined Fairy Tail?"
Rick lowered his head, looking sheepish. "Eros, we want to follow you."
"If it's out of guilt or gratitude, then forget it." The titan waved dismissively. "I've told you before, and I'll say it again—everything was my decision."
"I know," Rick admitted, "but are you really going to forbid us from joining your guild?"
"What about the children?"
"You don't have to worry about them," Makarov interjected. "These two convinced them to join my guild," he added with a mischievous grin. "And they can visit the children whenever they like."
"So that's how it is," Eros said thoughtfully. "You decided a long time ago, huh?" The titan nodded approvingly. "Well, what do you say? The final decision is yours."
Seeing Rick's pleading expression, Eros relented. Companions on his journey wouldn't hurt—traveling alone could be dreadfully boring.
"Thank you!" Rick exclaimed, hugging the titan tightly.
"Let go! You're going to strangle me!"
"S-sorry…"
"Eh… Youth," Makarov sighed, gazing at the sky.
