Chapter 11: Chapter 10: Learning
"STOP YELLING!" Prolylusica's voice, filled with rage, rang out as she walked out of the house, rubbing her back.
"Sorry!" the three mages answered in unison.
"Prolylusica, how is he?" Makarov asked anxiously.
She narrowed her eyes at the old man, making him cringe. "He's alive," she said tiredly with a sigh. "I've stabilized his condition, but it's best not to disturb him for the next few days."
"Okay," Makarov replied, feeling as though a heavy weight had been lifted from his shoulders. "Can I take a look at him?"
"Old man, aren't you listening to me?" Her sharp gaze pierced his small frame. "I said not to disturb him for the next few days."
"I understand. Forgive me." A brief silence followed.
"There are too many of you here," Prolylusica said, frowning as she grabbed a broom from the house. "And now that you know his condition, GET OUT OF HERE!"
"YES!" they answered in unison, disappearing from the clearing. The old woman chuckled, brought the broom back into the house, and closed the door.
[Two days later.]
A lot had happened in those two days. The territory of the Dark Forest had been reduced by half, and Fairy Tail was blamed for it. Surprisingly, this didn't shock the residents of Magnolia much. After all, the guild already had a reputation as "The Most Reckless Guild," and not without reason—every task, even the simplest C-rank mission, always ended in massive destruction.
As a result, the Guild Master and one of the God's Chosen, Makarov Dreyar, spent the last two days at the Magic Council's headquarters in the city of Era.
Era was a large city built around high rocky mountains, with the headquarters of the world's highest magical authority—the Magic Council—perched atop one such mountain. The rocky paths leading up the mountain encircled its base, forming a rugged entrance to the Council's chambers. The city itself was surrounded by snow-capped peaks and dense forests.
The Magic Council held near-total control over the magical world. They managed all legal (light) guilds, monitoring their activities, enforcing laws, and punishing rule-breakers. Over the last two days, Makarov endured the Council's tedious lectures, attempting to smooth over the disaster.
How could he explain that Gildarts had destroyed half the forest because chasing down each dark mage individually was too much of a hassle? Such a response would guarantee the Council wouldn't let him off easily.
Makarov stood with his head bowed, enduring the monotonous reprimands. In his mind, however, he fantasized about how he'd teach that ungrateful rascal a lesson for causing this mess.
"Enough already," said an elderly man, as short as Makarov, with thick light brown eyebrows and a small nose. His bored voice broke the monotony. He wore a long-sleeved brown shirt with black vertical stripes and a black, three-pronged hat. "You have to look for the positives in everything."
"PROS?! YAJIMA-SAN, WHAT PROS COULD POSSIBLY COME FROM DESTROYING HALF THE FOREST?!" shouted another council member, a man with a long purple beard and three eyes, who leapt from his seat. He wore a white cloak and was visibly incensed.
"One positive," Yajima replied, winking at Makarov, "is the complete destruction of the dark guild."
"And do you think that forest was called 'Dark' for no reason?"
"Of course I know!" the council member hissed. "Because of the abundance of dark creatures and—"
"Yes, and because it's a place for dark rituals and underground dealings," Yajima interrupted. "Even if Gildarts had destroyed the entire forest, we'd owe him our thanks."
"Yajima-san! Stop defending this damned guild already!"
"I'm not defending anyone. I'm just stating the facts."
"Enough of this farce!" A menacing voice echoed through the hall, silencing the commotion. "After two days of investigation, the following decision has been made: Gildarts Clive is found guilty of violating the Magic Code of the Kingdom of Fiore, Article 167. His punishment is a fine of forty million precious, to be paid within one year. This decision is final and cannot be appealed."
As the advisors filed out of the room, only two figures remained—Makarov and Yajima.
Makarov was as pale as a ghost, muttering, "F-forty million... F-forty million... F-forty million…" over and over.
Yajima looked at him sympathetically. "Enough already. Forty million? Big deal," he said, patting his friend's back.
"But... it's forty million…"
"Your little rascal can complete a couple of S-rank missions and pay it off. Now let's go have a drink. It'll calm your nerves."
But Makarov didn't hear him; his mind was fixated on that staggering number.
"Eh, what am I going to do with you?" Yajima muttered, grabbing Makarov by the scruff of his neck and dragging him off to a place only he knew.

Second, almost all the children who were found joined the Fairy Tail guild under pressure from Rick and Lily. Roni, initially considered a dark mage—and this was true—was released with Makarov's permission. However, he didn't leave the guild, choosing to wait for Eros to regain consciousness to decide their next course of action. Rick and Lily did the same, swearing that for saving him, they would remain by the titan's side and assist him forever.
[Eastern Forest. Porlyusica's House.]
Upon entering the house, the first thing the old woman saw was Eros lying on the table with a book in his hand. "You're recovering quickly," Polyusica said thoughtfully, placing the bag on the table. "Others in your position wouldn't be able to move for at least another week."
"Did you save me?" Putting the book aside, he looked at the old woman, who nodded in response before sitting on one of the stumps.
"Thank you very much. I'll do everything to repay you for your kindness in the future." Trying to sit up, his face twisted in pain, and he fell back onto the table.
"Don't try to get up," she chuckled, walking into the next room and returning with a strange, thick green liquid. "Even with your inhuman regeneration, it's best to refrain from any movement for a few more days."
"I know that," he said with a sigh. "Then perhaps you can teach me to read and write while I'm unable to move?"
Polyusica looked at him in surprise. After a moment's thought, she nodded.
"Good." This answer surprised Eros—more so, shocked him. In truth, Eros had regained consciousness the day before but chose to hide it. During that time, he overheard her swearing at those who came to visit him and muttering monotonously about people's weaknesses and how much she hated them.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Polyusica asked, noticing his reaction.
"I thought you hated people," Eros said awkwardly.
"I do hate them," the old woman chuckled, "but you're not a person. So, why should I hate you?"
"Why do you think I'm not a person? I have two arms, two legs, a pair of eyes and ears, one mouth, a nose—I'm one hundred percent human."
"If we compare that way, then yes," Polyusica nodded as she took some ointment and began applying it to his wounds. "But if we go by a broader definition, then the first among the God-Chosen are also 'people.'"
"The God-Chosen?"
"Yes, the strongest mages on the Continent."
"Interesting," Eros said thoughtfully, making a mental note of this term. "They're not human?"
"The first four lost their humanity long ago."
"I see. Thank you for explaining." He handed the book back to Polyusica. "Let's close this topic. If I'm not a person, then leave it at that." 'After all, I'm a titan,' Eros added silently.
Taking the book, she placed it back on the shelf. Then, opening one of the cabinets, she retrieved another book and handed it to Eros. "I'll explain everything only once. Whether you understand or not is of no concern to me."
"That will be enough. Thank you."
Two more days passed like this. When Polyusica returned with groceries, she saw Eros again with the book she'd placed on the shelf. "Can you already read such heavy books?" she asked in surprise.
"With difficulty," Eros replied sullenly, taking out another book. After quickly leafing through it, he nodded and returned to the first one. "But thanks to the magic dictionary, I managed to figure it out."
"If that's the case, then good," Polyusica said indifferently as she placed the groceries on the table. Outwardly, she seemed nonchalant, but deep down, she was shocked.
After all, just yesterday, she had explained the basics: how to read each letter and construct sentences. Now, Eros could already read heavy texts like Rituals and Runes—albeit with the help of a dictionary, but still, it was impressive.
"Auntie," Polyusica flinched at the unfamiliar address, "what is lacrima?" Eros asked, oblivious to her reaction. "I couldn't find the word in the dictionary."
"Lacrima... Show me where you read it." Taking the book from his hands, she looked at the ritual Eros wanted to perform. "Hmm... A ritual to determine magical affinity. I see." Her thoughtful gaze fell on him. "Judging by your magical channels, I'd say you already know your attribute. Why do you need this?"
"To be sure."
"Alright." Rummaging through one of her cabinets, she pulled out a completely transparent ball. "You'll need a storage lacrima for the ritual. This is the most basic type—it can store a limited amount of magical power. Of course, there are other types of lacrima, like communication lacrima, observation lacrima, video lacrima, explosive lacrima, and so on." She placed a few more examples on the table.
"Due to your limited magic, a storage lacrima will suffice. It can hold magical power twenty times greater than your reserve."
"Hmm... Convenient," Eros mused, examining the lacrima in his hand. "May I borrow it?"
"It will self-destruct after the ritual."
"Then I'll buy it."
"Where will you get the money?"
"I'll earn it..." He glanced at his injuries. "Once I'm healed."
"Take it," Polyusica said with a dismissive wave. "It's been lying in my cabinet for three years already."
"But..." Her narrowed eyes sent shivers down his spine.
"I understand. Thank you."
"You can take the ink from the top shelf."
"Yes!"
Thus, Eros continued his recovery, exploring Polyusica's library and learning more about the world he found himself in.
