Chapter 21: Chapter [21]
Gremory Mansion
Kaito and Dohnaseek emerged from the teleportation circle, now in the main hall of the Gremory mansion. The intense glow of the circle gradually faded, leaving them in a luxurious and imposing environment.
Rias and Sona were seated on opposite sofas, clearly in the middle of a serious conversation. Both turned towards Kaito and Dohnaseek as soon as they noticed their presence. Rias quickly stood up, surprised and concerned by the scene before her. Sona, on the other hand, maintained her serious expression, observing attentively.
"Kaito, what happened?" Rias asked, her voice full of concern.
Kaito still held Dohnaseek by the neck, feeling the weight of the fallen angel in his hand. He took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "This is Dohnaseek, a fallen angel. He attacked me on the street, and I had to defend myself."
As soon as Rias heard Kaito's words, her expression changed drastically. Her blue eyes narrowed, and a cold anger settled on her face. She stepped forward, the magical energy around her beginning to intensify.
"You dare attack a member of my Peerage?" Her voice, usually gentle and welcoming, was now filled with fury. "Dohnaseek, you will pay dearly for this."
Dohnaseek, even injured and debilitated, managed a weak laugh. "Do you think you scare me, Devil? You're nothing but a spoiled little girl."
Dohnaseek's response only further inflamed Rias's anger. She raised her hand, and a bright red sphere of energy began to form in her palm. "You have no idea the mistake you've made."
Sona, observing the scene with her usual seriousness, remained silent, but her eyes continued to analyze every detail. She knew Rias was in control of the situation, but was ready to intervene if necessary.
Rias took another step forward, the sphere of energy growing in intensity. "You don't deserve the mercy of the Gremory. Your presence here is an affront, and I will make sure you never threaten my Peerage again."
Kaito, still holding Dohnaseek, felt the intensity of Rias's energy. As he observed the anger in her eyes, an internal confusion began to take hold of his mind. He couldn't understand how someone who had planned to take advantage of his state between life and death for her own benefit when he was human, now emanated such genuine fury for someone who attacked him now that he was part of her Peerage.
Kaito's thoughts were tangled. He clearly remembered the moment when he was on the brink of death, when Rias appeared and reanimated him as a Devil. At that moment, he felt he had been transformed only to serve Rias's interests, to strengthen her Peerage and avoid the marriage contract. The calculating coldness he perceived in those actions contrasted sharply with the sincere anger she now displayed.
"Maybe... maybe I misinterpreted," Kaito pondered internally. "Maybe Rias really sees her Peerage as a family, as she said. Maybe her anger isn't just for her own interest, but for genuine concern for me."
Dohnaseek, despite his debilitated state, continued to laugh weakly, trying to hide his growing fear. "Do you really think you can do anything against me, you spoiled Devil? Azazel..."
Before he could finish his sentence, the sphere of energy in Rias's hands shone intensely, cutting off his words. Kaito, feeling the urgency of the situation, released Dohnaseek and stepped back, letting Rias take control.
Rias, with the sphere of energy pulsing in her hand, stepped forward. Her gaze was fixed on Dohnaseek, the anger shining in her eyes. "You have no idea who you're facing," she said, her voice firm and full of authority. "I am Rias Gremory, and Kuoh is my territory. No one can harm my Peerage without facing the proper punishment."
Dohnaseek, despite his weakened condition, tried to maintain his arrogance, but fear was evident in his eyes. He couldn't speak, only staring at Rias with a mix of despair and hatred.
Rias raised her hand, the sphere of energy growing even more, ready to deliver the final blow. But before she could launch the attack, Sona intervened.
"Rias, wait," said Sona, her voice serious and authoritative. "Don't kill him. We can use this fallen angel to get valuable information."
Rias stopped, her expression still full of anger, but now mixed with caution. She looked at Sona, considering her words. "Information? What do you suggest, Sona?"
Sona stepped forward, her eyes fixed on Dohnaseek. "We can interrogate him and find out more about the fallen angels' plans. He might have information that will be useful to us, and killing him now would waste that opportunity."
Rias took a deep breath, trying to control the anger still boiling inside her. She knew Sona was right. Killing Dohnaseek might bring momentary satisfaction, but the information he possessed could be far more valuable in the long run.
"You're right, Sona," Rias finally said, lowering her hand and dissipating the sphere of energy. "Let's interrogate him and see what we can find out."
Dohnaseek, realizing his life had been spared, sighed in relief, but he knew he was still in an extremely dangerous situation. Rias approached him, her eyes still shining with contained anger.
"You will tell us everything you know," Rias said, her voice cold and authoritative. "And if you lie or try to deceive us, the punishment will be much worse than death."
Sona nodded, satisfied with Rias's decision. "Let's take him to a secure cell and begin the interrogation immediately."
Kaito, observing the scene, felt a mixture of relief and exhaustion. He knew Dohnaseek's interrogation was in good hands with Rias and Sona. With a sigh, he stepped forward, attracting Rias's attention.
"Rias, I'm going home now," Kaito said, his voice a bit tired but firm.
Rias, noticing Kaito's fatigue, looked at him with concern. "Are you alright, Kaito? Did you suffer any injuries during the confrontation?"
Kaito shook his head, trying to appear calm. "No, I'm fine. I didn't suffer any injuries. I'm just a little tired."
Rias nodded, understanding the situation. "I'm glad to know you're okay. Rest assured, Kaito. This fallen angel will be dealt with as soon as we get the necessary answers. You did a great job bringing him here."
Kaito gave a slight smile, feeling a bit more relieved by Rias's words. "Thank you, Rias. I appreciate you taking care of this situation."
Rias returned the smile, a bit more relaxed. "Rest, Kaito. You deserve it."
With a final nod, Kaito bid farewell to Rias and Sona in the same way he had arrived, activating the teleportation circle. The light enveloped his body, and in an instant, he disappeared from the Gremory mansion, returning home.
