Chapter 14: Chapter [14]
Kaito was chatting about trivial matters with Hiro.
"Have you ever noticed," Kaito said, "how some people always seem to be in a hurry, wanting the beginning of the story to already reveal the end? They forget that a good story has a beginning, middle, and end, and each part is important."
Hiro laughed, agreeing. "Yeah, man. People need to learn to enjoy the journey. Every detail counts."
In the middle of their conversation, the classroom door opened, and Akeno entered. Her imposing and graceful presence caught everyone's attention, including the teacher's. She approached the teacher with a polite smile and a slight bow.
"Excuse me, professor," said Akeno with her soft and melodious voice. "I need to speak with Kaito for a moment, if it's not too much trouble."
"Of course, Akeno. Kaito, you may go."
Hiro couldn't resist making a comment before Kaito stood up. "Don't forget the condom, dude."
Kaito rolled his eyes and replied with an ironic smile. "Stop it, Hiro."
As Kaito stood up and walked towards Akeno, he heard murmurs and whispers of envy and jealousy from other students.
"Why did she call him?"
"He's not that special."
"How did he get that attention?"
Kaito thought to himself, trying to understand the situation. "What's their problem? She just called me to talk."
Akeno gave Kaito a slight smile as he approached, indicating with her head for him to follow. They left the classroom together, leaving the murmurs and envious glances behind.
Walking through the school corridors, Akeno maintained a serene expression, but Kaito could feel the urgency in the way she walked. He decided to break the silence.
"Akeno, what's going on? Why did you come to get me?"
Akeno looked at Kaito, her expression softening a bit. "Rias wants to talk to you. There was an incident earlier, and we need to sort it out as soon as possible."
Kaito furrowed his brow, worried. "Incident? What did I do?"
"We'll go to the occult research club. Rias will explain everything," replied Akeno, her voice calm but firm.
When they arrived at the occult research club, Akeno opened the door and gestured for Kaito to enter. Rias was there, waiting, with a serious expression.
Kaito entered.
"Rias, what happened?"
"Kaito, we heard that you exerted mana pressure on Yura, a member of Sona's Peerage, earlier today. We need to discuss this."
Kaito felt a chill. He vaguely remembered what had happened but didn't think it was so serious. "I didn't know... it wasn't intentional."
Rias sighed, nodding. "I know, Kaito. But we need to make sure you understand what happened and how to prevent it in the future. Sona is quite concerned, and rightfully so."
Akeno approached, placing a hand on Kaito's shoulder. "We'll help you better understand your abilities and how to control them."
"Rias, I appreciate the help and support you're giving me. But I have some questions about my reincarnation."
Rias nodded, ready to listen. "Of course, Kaito. What are your questions?"
Kaito looked directly into Rias's eyes, his expression serious. "Rias, did you know I was going to be killed by Yuuma?"
The room fell silent. Rias tensed up with Kaito's question, and Akeno, though concerned, remained quiet, waiting for her leader's response.
Rias took a deep breath, deciding to be honest. "Her name is Raynare, and yes, I did know."
Kaito was silent, processing the information. He had suspected the truth, but hearing Rias confirm it was different.
Rias realized the gravity of the moment and asked to explain her reasons. "Kaito, please, let me explain."
Kaito looked at her, waiting.
"Kaito, I was desperate to strengthen my Peerage. I knew you had immense latent power, and yes, I knew about Raynare's plan. I used that situation to save you and at the same time strengthen my Peerage."
Kaito frowned, still processing everything. "Why? Why were you so desperate?"
Rias looked into Kaito's eyes, her expression serious and filled with emotion. "Because I'm trapped in an unwanted marriage contract. My fiancé is a man I despise, and the only way to avoid this marriage is by strengthening my Peerage."
"So, you saved me and brought me to your Peerage for that?"
"Yes, Kaito. But there's more. Unlike other families, I treat my Peerage as a family. Each of my servants is important to me, and I would never treat them as mere pawns. I truly want you to be part of this family."
Kaito was silent, absorbing Rias's words. He could feel the sincerity in her words, but there was still something bothering him.
"A well-fed servant is still a servant," he finally said, looking directly at Rias. "Honestly, I can't judge you by human values, since you're a Devil. But if you really want me to believe you treat your servants well, tell me the truth: is there anything I can do to get out of this servant status?"
"Yes, Kaito, there is a way. If you are promoted to High-Class Devil, you get your own set of Evil Pieces, but you will still be linked to me. However, if you manage to be promoted to Ultimate-Class Devil, only the 4 Maous will have a rank above yours."
Kaito considered the answer for a moment. "And you would help me achieve that position?"
Rias nodded firmly. "Yes, Kaito. I will use everything at my disposal to help you reach that position. I believe in your potential, and I know you can become very powerful."
Kaito, being half-fairy, had an innate ability to know if someone was telling the truth. He realized that Rias, unless she was being deceived, fully believed in everything she was saying. This gave him confidence that Rias would keep her promise.
"Rias, could you tell me more about how I can be promoted and about your marriage contract?"
Rias nodded, ready to explain everything in detail. They spent the next two and a half hours discussing promotions within the Devil world, as well as the details of the marriage contract.
When classes ended, Kaito thanked Rias for the enlightening conversation. "I'm going to see my parents now. Thank you for everything, Rias."
"Of course, Kaito. Go ahead. I'm glad we had this talk and that you understand the situation better now."
Kaito said goodbye and left the occult research club.
Rias watched Kaito leave, a look of hope on her face. She believed that Kaito could be the key to freeing her from the marriage.
