Chapter 121 San Fernando cathedral part 3

Luna was tasked with investigating the chamber behind the sanctuary, though she wasn't really focused on her task. The foul stench that emanated from the vampires outside overcame her senses and she had a hard time trying to take her mind off of it. The only silver lining was that Tom turned out to be a nice guy, at least for Luna's standards.

Tom was one of Mark's closest friends which made Luna immediately distrust him, but he was quiet and didn't bother her. That made him one of the least annoying people in the whole group, even including her own party.

After opening the door they entered a small chamber, there were a few shelves and some pieces of old furniture, though they also noticed a trap door on the floor that obviously led to a basement of sorts. Luna then grabbed the iron ring on the wooden plank that acted as a trap door and pulled it, revealing the entrance to a cellar that connected to an underground storage room.

"You go in, I'll stand guard outside." Were Tom's first words to Luna.

The room was used to store religious artifacts of all kinds, some were made of gold, though most of them were either silver or bronze. None of them looked especially valuable, but they all looked old.

"I bet Uriel would love this stuff." She voiced her thoughts, yet she didn't go out immediately as her attention was drawn towards two figures covered with sheets, They looked just like the ghosts she had seen in cartoons and, even though she was mostly skeptic about the afterlife, she couldn't deny the existence of ghost-like cryptids.

Luna walked by herself on the dark room, armed with her gas lantern and looked around. Most people would have been scared to enter a place that had been sealed for who knows how many years, especially after considering the many cryptids dwelling in the lost city. But Luna was different.

She had always been interested in cryptids and that was the sole reason why she signed for college education. To her, walking into a place like that was nothing out of the ordinary and she wasn't afraid, not in the slightest.

It's not that she didn't take into consideration the possible risks but, just like her sister Cassandra, Luna wouldn't bat an eye in the face of danger.

She walked towards the figures covered with blank sheets and pulled them in a quick movement revealing two sculptures.

"Uriel!" She yelled to the top of her lungs.

Uriel went outside the room he was inspecting along with Tina and darted across the cathedral seeking for the source of the voice that called for him. It was Luna.

"What happened? What did you do to her?" Uriel asked Tom who was paired up.

"I don't know, I didn't do anything to her I swear!" Tom explained showing the palms of his hands in innocence.

"I don't believe you, you're just like that jerk. You must have done something for Luna to react that way." Uriel said in an accusatory tone. While it was true that Tom never actually did anything to him, he had always stood by Mark's side celebrating all of his cruel pranks.

Needless to say, Tom was speechless after being talked like that by Uriel as he didn't expect the spineless archaeology student to be so openly hostile towards him.

"Uriel, don't say mean things like that!" Tina scolded.

Soon enough everyone in the cathedral was drawn by all the noise they were making.

Medusa came with Mark, and she looked as though she swallowed a bitter bug. It was clear she didn't enjoy his company and her mood was ruined. On the other hand, for some mysterious reason Sam showed up carrying the hugest smile Uriel had seen on him so far.

"Uhm, I found something you need to see Uriel." Luna muttered and pointed towards the trapdoor.

The group followed Luna to the cellar and then the storage room and once Uriel laid eyes upon the religious artifacts he assumed she had called him because of that.

"Wow! Thank you, Luna. Thank you so much!" Uriel let out already thinking on how to spend his share of the treasure.

"Hey! you're not thinking on stealing from a church, are you? That's sacrilege." Mark asked putting his greed in evidence.

"O-of course not, I wouldn't dare..." Uriel defended himself.

"Yeah, that would be so wrong. Uriel would never do something like that." Tina continued, making it impossible for Uriel to claim a single piece of the treasure. Though, if even Mark considered stealing from a church a sacrilege there was no wiggle room for Uriel to argue.

"Not that, the statues. You're an archaeologist and I thought this might interest you." Luna explained.

There were two statues made of volcanic stone, one depicted a man with a long rifle on his back and a hatchet on his hand. The hatchet had carvings on English, on one side it said 'Crockett' and on the other side of the edge it said 'Go ahead'. The other statue was of a bare chest lady, it was pretty generic and there wasn't much to say about it.

"She's so hot!" Mark exclaimed, though everyone ignored him.

"Interested? This is a huge finding!" Uriel struggled to keep his excitement at bay. "I'm not well versed in history but, this statues, along with the memorial stone we found in the other room confirms my theory."

"What theory?" Medusa asked, though Uriel wasn't sure if he should answer.

While his theory may benefit everyone by shedding some light into one of the mysteries surrounding the arrival, it was also a very delicate information. Sharing it could potentially end up in a great loss for him.

"This gives me two important pieces of information. This must be the San Fernando Cathedral, where they found the remains of David Crockett. By itself, that's not really important but, here's the interesting part, this lost city used to be called San Antonio."
