Douluo Starting with the Chaos Divine Examination

Chapter 252: Chapter 252: First Encounter with Gu Xun'er

"Clan leader, there's someone here!"

As Mu Chen watched Bibi Dong disappear into the distance, a slightly hoarse voice sounded behind him.

Turning around, Mu Chen saw, for the first time since his transmigration, the people of this world. Two men and one girl stood before him.

One of the men had white hair and a beard, yet his spirit was so vigorous he seemed no older than thirty. The other man gave off no discernible aura, appearing entirely ordinary. Yet his bearing and demeanor surpassed even Emperor Xue Ye of the Heaven Dou Empire.

As for the girl, she looked no more than four years old. Her features were adorable—bright, clear eyes and fair skin. It was easy to imagine how stunning she would become once she grew up.

"Little brother, what is your name?" The middle-aged man scrutinized Mu Chen, his brows slightly furrowed. With his cultivation, he could not sense the youth's level. It was as though an invisible barrier shielded Mu Chen from his perception.

"Mu Chen. And who are you?" Mu Chen's gaze grew sharp. Similarly, he could not ascertain the cultivation level of the man before him. It felt as if a formless wall surrounded the middle-aged man, preventing any insight.

"You may call me Uncle Gu Yuan," the middle-aged man replied cordially.

"Gu Yuan?" Mu Chen's eyes flickered. "Gu Yuan, the clan leader of the Gu Clan, one of the Ancient Eight Clans?"

"That would be me," Gu Yuan confirmed, his tone steady, though his heart sank slightly.

For someone in this remote corner of the northwest continent—an area so isolated that many didn't even know of Central Plains—to recognize him so quickly was unexpected. Gu Yuan's instincts told him that this youth was far from ordinary.

Yet, Gu Yuan could not recall any notable family from the Central Plains with the surname Mu.

Mu Chen's gaze drifted toward the little girl.

If this middle-aged man was Gu Yuan, then this girl must be his treasured daughter, Gu Xun'er. A faint smile tugged at Mu Chen's lips. He hadn't expected to meet Gu Xun'er here, and realization dawned—he had indeed transmigrated to the world of Battle Through the Heavens. As for the white-haired elder, he must be Ling Ying, a Dou Huang-level guardian.

"Uncle Gu Yuan, what brings you here?" Mu Chen asked.

"I'm here to visit the descendants of an old friend and to ask for their assistance," Gu Yuan replied.

Mu Chen smirked inwardly. Gu Yuan's "old friend" was undoubtedly Xiao Xuan, the ancestor of the Xiao Clan. As for the help he sought, it was likely to leave Gu Xun'er in the Xiao Clan while probing the clan for the Tou She Ancient Emperor's Jade.

"Uncle Gu Yuan, where are your friend's descendants now?" Mu Chen asked, feigning curiosity.

"In Wutan City," Gu Yuan answered.

"Perfect. I'm heading there as well. May I travel with you?" Mu Chen asked.

"Of course," Gu Yuan agreed with a warm smile. He glanced around and asked, "Mu Chen, are you here alone?"

"Yes," Mu Chen nodded.

"Do you know what caused the strange light just now?" Gu Yuan's gaze sharpened as he fixed his eyes on Mu Chen.

While traveling with Ling Ying and Gu Xun'er to Wutan City, Gu Yuan had noticed peculiar lights atop this mountain. The radiance had started as white before transforming into a rainbow-like glow. Such a celestial phenomenon was exceedingly rare, prompting him to ascend the mountain and investigate.

Mu Chen, of course, knew the source of the light. The white light had been emitted by the dimensional gate, while the multicolored radiance was caused by his acquisition of the Chaos God divine position, triggering the celestial anomaly.

Glancing down, Mu Chen noted the unusual effects of the phenomenon. The vegetation on the mountaintop had grown explosively due to the rainbow glow. A small tree that had been three meters tall was now a towering giant requiring three people to encircle it. Despite it being autumn, vibrant flowers covered the ground.

"I don't know," Mu Chen replied, shaking his head.

"You're the only one here. How could you not know?" Ling Ying questioned suspiciously.

"I don't know means I don't know. Is there a problem with that?" Mu Chen retorted indifferently.

"You…" Ling Ying began, but Gu Yuan raised a hand to stop him.

Gu Yuan studied Mu Chen with a smile, his deep gaze seemingly piercing into the youth's heart. As one of the strongest individuals in existence, Gu Yuan could tell Mu Chen was hiding something. However, even with his Dou Di-level soul, Gu Yuan could not ascertain Mu Chen's cultivation. This only confirmed that Mu Chen's spiritual realm had surpassed his own.

For someone like Mu Chen, Gu Yuan naturally wished to establish friendly relations.

---

On the journey, Gu Yuan engaged Mu Chen in conversation, probing indirectly for information about his background. Mu Chen, however, answered every inquiry with the same seven words: "I have no family in this place."

Eventually, Gu Yuan gave up on prying further.

"Mu Chen, we will be visiting the Xiao Clan in Wutan City. Since you have no place to settle, and you're unwilling to return to my Gu Clan with me, why not stay with the Xiao Clan for a while?" Gu Yuan suggested.

"Very well," Mu Chen nodded, casting a glance at Gu Xun'er.

Gu Xun'er had been unusually quiet throughout the journey, her reluctance to join the Xiao Clan evident.

As they continued traveling, a city gradually came into view. Three imposing characters were etched on the gate: Wutan City.

Although the Xiao Clan had declined, it remained one of the three major families in Wutan City. After inquiring for directions, Gu Yuan led Mu Chen and Gu Xun'er to the Xiao Clan's gates. Ling Ying, per Gu Yuan's instructions, withdrew into the shadows to safeguard Gu Xun'er from a distance.

"Notify your clan leader that an old friend has come to visit," Gu Yuan instructed the gatekeepers with calm authority.

"An old friend? Who are you? I know everyone my clan leader knows, and I've never seen you before," one gatekeeper retorted, eyeing Gu Yuan's refined attire with caution.

Boom.

Gu Yuan released a fraction of his Nine-Star Dou Saint aura, a tidal wave of pressure engulfing the entire Xiao Clan estate.

"Who… who is this?"

Startled voices echoed throughout the Xiao Clan. Soon, a group of people hurried to the gates. At the forefront was a middle-aged man in an elegant gray robe. His strides were commanding, and his thick brows lent him an air of majesty.

"Clan leader, this person wishes to see you," the gatekeeper reported respectfully.

Clan leader?

Mu Chen's heart stirred. This must be Xiao Zhan, the head of the Xiao Clan.
