Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Battling the Beast.
Bang!
A surge of energy swept through the forest, obliterating everything in its path. Trees were uprooted, weak soul beasts screeched as they were caught in the blast, and two figures streaked through the destruction, their presence wreaking havoc.
Ju Douluo, Yue Guan, struck down a monkey-type soul beast that tried to attack them. His usually elegant and composed face was now filled with urgency. "Old Ghost, you're faster! Go ahead and check the situation!" he snapped.
Though it was unwise to release such potent soul power in the Star Dou Forest, risking the attention of powerful entities, Yue Guan couldn't afford to hold back. If something happened to Su Chen, how could he face His Holiness the Pope? Especially when this young man had displayed such unprecedented talent.
"Damn it! Why is that appearing in the outer forest? Wasn't it supposed to be extinct?" Yue Guan cursed, his usually melodic tone sharp with frustration. His gaze pierced through the dense foliage, landing on the massive beast and the fragile white-haired figure desperately fighting before it.
Linwu Silkworm.
This was no ordinary soul beast—it was one of a kind.
Each summer, it transformed into the Dragon Silkworm, a soul beast with unparalleled defense and formidable offensive power. In winter, it shifted to the Wood Lin Flower, a plant-type soul beast with immense vitality and near-immortality, though it rooted itself in place. Both forms were immensely powerful, and even at the thousand-year level, they could rival ten-thousand-year soul beasts.
Yet, the Linwu Silkworm had a fatal flaw. During its transition between forms, it entered a temporary state known as the Linwu Silkworm. For a single day, it lost the Dragon Silkworm's resilience and the Wood Lin Flower's regenerative abilities, becoming a fragile creature teeming with energy. In this state, it was highly coveted—a treasure for both soul masters and beasts.
The relentless hunting by humans and soul beasts alike had driven the Linwu Silkworm to near extinction. It was rare for one to reach the thousand-year level. And now, against all odds, one had appeared in the outskirts of the forest, crossing paths with Su Chen.
Yue Guan couldn't decide if Su Chen was extraordinarily lucky or terribly unfortunate. The Linwu Silkworm, even in its fragile state, was a foe far beyond Su Chen's current capabilities. Moreover, a cornered beast was the most dangerous of all.
The air reverberated with explosions as the Linwu Silkworm unleashed a storm of thorn-like projectiles. These wood thorns tore through the forest, obliterating everything in their path—trees, flowers, and unlucky soul beasts caught in the barrage.
Amid the chaos, a white-haired boy darted through the deadly rain like a phantom. His movements defied logic, narrowly evading fatal strikes again and again.
"Puff!"
Another soul beast fell, a victim of Su Chen's quick thinking as he redirected the Linwu Silkworm's attacks. Yet every such diversion came at a cost, sapping his stamina.
"This is really troublesome," Su Chen muttered, his breath coming in short gasps. His scarlet Sharingan spun wildly, its magatama forming blurred afterimages. Even with his ocular abilities, he could barely keep up with the assault.
Instinct, honed through rigorous training in the ninja arts, allowed him to anticipate danger. Yet, his six-year-old body—enhanced by medicinal baths and chakra conditioning though it was—was nearing its limits.
"Six breaths left until Ju Douluo and Ghost Douluo arrive," Su Chen calculated, wiping the sweat from his brow. His gaze locked onto the rampaging beast, his mind racing.
Boom!
A new wave of attacks erupted, forcing Su Chen into a desperate dodge. His tattered clothing disintegrated, revealing a lean, well-trained frame. The Linwu Silkworm, sensing imminent danger, intensified its assault, each strike grazing Su Chen and leaving shallow wounds. Yet, his eyes gleamed with determination.
Byakugan.
Switching to his Byakugan, Su Chen's vision penetrated the beast's body. He spotted the intricate node at its core, a point from which energy was hemorrhaging.
"It's injured," Su Chen realized. "It wants to devour me to heal itself and escape."
This greed confirmed his hypothesis: chakra, the energy unique to him, held extraordinary allure to living beings. Even with the approaching Titled Douluo, the Linwu Silkworm prioritized consuming him.
The boy's lips curled into a daring grin. "If that's the case, let's gamble."
Switching back to his Sharingan, Su Chen traced the beast's patterns, dodging its attacks with increasing precision. Then, instead of retreating, he charged straight at the soul beast.
"What?!"
Ju Douluo, who had been closing the distance, nearly screamed in disbelief. His nine soul rings flared as his speed surged. But he was still too far.
"You reckless brat! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!" Yue Guan roared, his voice filled with fury and panic.
Boom!
The Linwu Silkworm's attacks converged, enveloping Su Chen in a devastating green storm. Yue Guan froze, his heart sinking.
"It's over," he whispered, despair washing over him like icy water. A genius with the potential to reach the pinnacle of the soul master world had fallen.
BOOM!!!
Suddenly, a pillar of energy erupted into the sky, tearing through the forest canopy. The shockwave flattened the surrounding area, revealing a clear blue sky.
Under the golden sunlight, a white-haired boy stood amidst the devastation. In his hands was a massive, intricately designed fan radiating power. Before him lay the remains of the Linwu Silkworm, its dark purple soul ring slowly rising into the air.
It was a thousand-year soul ring, its mysterious runes shimmering with unparalleled brilliance.
