Chapter 15: Devil Atop His Shoulder
In Wu Zhangkong's training room that had recently been taken over by two monsters, the room had been split into two halves. On one side, there was a storm of wind that split the air and struck the walls, wax flying all over the room.
On the other side, there was a beautiful girl with long silver hair and regal purple eyes sitting peacefully, seven balls of energy fluttering around each other, their shape constantly changing. One moment they would be a sword, the next a lotus, and so on.
It had been just over a week since the two first met and so far their schedule had gone exactly the same each and every time. They would go to class to watch their classmates, go to this room and train, eat, and then meditate. There was no variation. There wasn't even any conversation.
"Aren't you bored?" Gu Yuena questioned lightly, her elemental constructions continuing to change. Tang Wulin went in longer than her every day yet he didn't complain once. He was making progress though. He was far from done but progress was progress.
"No." Tang Wulin replied bluntly, no intention to continue the conversation in his mind. Perhaps he was bored but he wouldn't know. He was single mindedly focused on the activity he was assigned and it had begun bearing fruit.
He could now control force from his punches at the level of a spirit elder. It was twenty ranks below his current force but it was still above what his soul power should be capable of at the current moment.
"Somehow I'm not surprised." Gu Yuena said with a sigh, lazily reclining on a couch she had brought out of her storage tool, the seven shapes above her all taking on their own form in an impressive display of control.
As the conversation once again returned to null, the only sound surrounding them was the soft flicker of flames and the occasional torrent of wind. It was repetitive, and even though it was helpful, it was boring.
Gu Yue could see the point. Similar to her other half her control wasn't where it should be due to her spiritual power regressing so far back. It was still deep into the Spirit Sea realm but it was much less than what she had before and it caused her control to drop significantly.
But that didn't mean she enjoyed it. It would be different if her other half would actually talk to her instead of blatantly scanning her body with his spiritual power that was unnaturally high though she wouldn't say that out loud.
Of course, she wouldn't abandon the training just because she was bored since she needed to be stronger to absorb her other half however that didn't mean she wouldn't take a break. Even Wu Zhangkong would probably agree. Rest is imperative to growth after all.
The problem was her other half. Her goal in coming to this school was to get close to him to scope out his personality and so on and letting him spend all day like this wasn't exactly helpful to that goal.
"Let's go to the market. I heard there is a mini festival going on." Gu Yuena said, standing up and stretching her limbs with a groan leaving her lips. She'd been laying down for a few hours at this point so she was pretty sore.
"Mhm." Tang Wulin hummed in response, giving her the closest thing to a goodbye he could give. Reaching into the storage tool from his teacher his shoulder was suddenly grabbed before he could place the candle on the ground.
"You're coming too." Gu Yuena demanded, her hand firmly grasping his shoulder. Sadly, her strength wasn't enough and her grip was broken with ease. She may be a dragon herself but some things simply can't be compared.
"I refuse." Tang Wulin replied bluntly, ignoring her grip on his arm and tearing back his fist once more, just as he had done thousands of times. Punching forward, a weak gust of wind emerged from his fist, the candle splitting into six pieces that flew across the room.
He made it abundantly clear that he had no intention of following her even if the Second Slayer's words were currently ringing in the back of his mind as a small nagging voice that he could not get rid of easily.
"If you rest now your effort tomorrow will be worth more." Gu Yuena spoke, her voice sounding like the tempting whisper of a devil. Her other half wasn't a being of emotion, at least not at the moment, he wouldn't be convinced like most people. Rather than appealing to his emotions, she needed to use logic to convince him.
Immediately she could tell that he was focused on her, the small sign of his ears focusing on her every word and his fist falling to his side. She was onto something. It was similar to bribing a child though she used facts and logic rather than candy.
"Isn't your body overworked? I'm sure a single night off would allow your muscles to relax. It might even let you complete this training." Gu Yuena whispered into his ear like the devil, tempting her other half with ease.
She could see him pause to think about it for a moment, his crimson eyes giving telltale signs that he was thinking deeply. She was just one step away from getting what she wanted. No, it'd be better to say she'd be getting what was best for both of them.
Even from such brief contact, she could tell that his muscles were tense and his body was tired. His muscles were obviously strong however underneath all of that it was obvious that his muscles were taut and overworked. She wasn't lying, a bit of rest would really help him.
"I'm sure Wu Zhangkong wouldn't mind, he may even recommend it. He knows how important rest is after all." She whispered, gently massaging his stiff muscles to relax them, a mix of the elements coating her hands to increase the efficiency.
"… Ok." Her other half agreed after a moment of silence making her smirk in victory.
