Douluo Dalu 3 | Divine Destruction

Chapter 139: First Step to Supremacy

[Wulin!] Feeling the thread of divinity that leaked out of his son's body, Tang San hurriedly cautioned the boy. If he were to reveal his divinity here, the entire world would become his enemy not just the Federation and Spirit Pagoda!

"…It's alright, I was just caught off guard." Smiling reassuringly Wulin stared down at the massive bird of prey illuminating the world like a small sun. Glowing with vermillion flames and golden eyes full of life, the phoenix was a beast surpassing any hundred thousand soul beast that Wulin knew of.

But that was all it had. It didn't compare to the Ten Great Beasts just yet let alone Di Tian. It was a powerful ability, so powerful in fact that Hyper Douluo may be unable to defeat it. However, as it stood now that was completely fine. Any Hyper Douluo worth their title would be able to simply defeat the nearly unconscious Dai'er before the phoenix could lock onto them.

'Looks like she can't control it.' Observing the phoenix's strange actions, that roars of indignation and flames thrown in all directions that much was clear. Dai'er couldn't control her ninth ring and that made it all too easy to snatch victory despite the overwhelming power that bird held.

But Wulin didn't want to win that way. It wasn't the Dragon God's lingering resentment that pushed him to this decision, that was far easier to control than the Golden Dragon King's chaos though it did catch him off guard. In reality, he just wanted to fight this apex predator and draw forth victory with his own hands.

The phoenix was made entirely of flames, it's body nothing more than a manifestation of its spirit that could be changed in any way it pleased. If it were to be defeated, it would require either higher fire attribute control or some way to disperse all the fire at once.

Wulin couldn't really do either. He could disrupt all the fire but that would take time that he didn't have with that big chicken throwing fire everywhere it possibly could. That was a situation even Hyper Douluos would find troublesome and Wulin was no exception.

'I was hoping to keep it hidden a bit longer.' Sighing heavily Wulin pulled his fist back, nine colored lights expelled from his fist in droves. It was as though a star had blossomed in the enlarged arena, the sun and star glowing bright and brighter by the second.

However, while the vermillion sun continued to shine brilliantly the nine colored star shrunk and disappeared entirely. Heat spread all throught the arena, the floor melting from the sheer heat as the Phoenix turned its attention solely into Wulin.

There was something Wulin realized over the last three years, a very simple realization really. It was undeniable that he had power in spades, so much power that he had already surpassed the Dragon God to some extent. What he needed wasn't more power though that was always appreciated.

Control. Wu Zhangkong had shown him the path, Zhuo Shi had paved the way, and Yun Ming had guided him. Control was what he needed, the ability to control the tempestuous power he had tamed.

His goal wasn't to be a mere devil, a blood soaked monster that killed effortlessly. He didn't want to rely on power alone, he wanted to utilize the techniques honed by humanity to surpass the limits of divinity. He didn't want to be the Golden Dragon King or even the Dragon God.

He wanted to rule over the martial world, the world where technique was raised to its limits. He wanted to take technique to its limits and then break past them. To take even a child's strength and split the world. That was what he desired.

To do that, the Golden Dragon's Nine Moves weren't enough. If he wanted to surpass the expectations of the universal order he needed more than that. He needed something stronger, a set of divine techniques perfectly crafted for him, the one who would stand unrivaled on the battlefield forevermore.

Martial God's First Step: Splitting the World

Breathing out heavily, the flames flickered for a brief instant before all of Shrek was engulfed in nine colored lights. Stillness covered the battlefield as a weak cry filled the battlefield, the soft flicking of flames an unusual chill permeating the air.

The phoenix large enough to blot out the sun had been rendered nothing more than a candle flame, the imposing aura it released gone as though it were a mirage. It had taken a brief, silent second for the Dragon of Destruction to defeat the prideful phoenix.

The punch had simply made the phoenix… disappear. The nine colored light annihilated any and all fire elements on the battlefield. All flame no matter its size or power had been snuffed out leaving the arena with a thin layer of frost.

"Phew…Not bad." Smirking proudly at his work, Wulin was covered in a thin layer of sweat as he approached the slowly recovering phoenix. The fact that it could restore itself at all was impressive considering that there were no flame elements anywhere nearby. It seems a phoenix truly was the closest existence to immortality.

[Not bad? I think we may be seeing different things.] Rolling his eyes, Tang San could hardly believe his eyes. If it were anyone other than his own son he would have called them crazy. It wasn't just a name, divine techniques were truly divine. They reached a higher dimension with their power, potency, and prowess and allowed even a mortal to harm a deity.

A talented mortal could learn a divine technique but creating one of their own? That was not only unheard of but also impossible. Or rather, it should have been. Wulin had done so many impossible things that Tang San was beginning to rethink his definition of the impossible.

Wulin may have the power of the Golden Dragon King at his beck and call but there was a vast difference between having the power to rival divinity and being divine. With his Divine Heart, Wulin now had both power and divinity. And now he had a divine technique suited toward himself and him alone.

Calling Wulin a god wouldn't be so far fetched.

****

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.

I absolutely loved writing this chapter because it's a nearly perfect encapsulation of Wulin's growth as a person. In the past he would have been content with just being the Golden Dragon King and raising his cultivation to house that power. Now, he wants bigger and better things. And to some extent, he needs to surpass the Dragon God and you'll see why in the next few chapters.
