Douluo Dalu 3 | Divine Destruction

Chapter 128: Stopping the Maelstrom

"That is… correct." It took Imort a moment but he eventually overcame his surprise and continued his explanation. "At the current border of the continent, we have found a sort of spatial distortion though coming in contact with it is impossible. We assume this continent was the starting part of the distortion and slowly it will spread outward."

"Its influence isn't limited to only here." Placing both Sea God's Pearls on the table Luslec didn't have to wait for long before the Slayers realized what was going on. Even White seemed to be content with not interrupting a matter as important as this.

It was something even Luslec found hard to believe but with all the facts available to him it was really the only option. Whether he could understand or not, his world was being merged with that of some kind of parallel universe.

Additionally, the fact that the new continent was slowly appearing indicated that this was some kind of spatial ability rather than a temporal one. Rather than combining a possible history with their own, they were instead becoming one with a universe that has already existed. That means it's more than locations that will be brought over.

"So that's the origin of all those strange spaces." Looking at the two Sea God Pearls in unhidden interest, Seto was very interested in the two divine objects. As of late, he had been working on borderline divine tools quite often but they all felt subpar. If he could study actual divinity however…

"It's as we expected then." Looking at his God with a mixture of worry and immense interest Imort continued speaking only after Luslec nodded. "The strange areas appearing around the world will only increase in number over time and things such as that will be common." Motioning toward the two pearls Imort was visibly concerned.

And it wasn't just him. The Slayers may be the best of FUG, the best of the world even, but that didn't mean they were invincible. Turbulent times were to be expected with a man such as Luslec leading them however this went far past mere turbulence. Fate was changing before their very eyes.

"What is the synchronicity rate?" Lazily looking at Imort the God of Devils didn't look particularly concerned. No, it would be more apt to say he was hardly perturbed. It was then that they remembered who exactly their leader was. The one and only God of this world, the strongest man alive by far. If they weren't safe, the world was doomed from the start.

"Less than twenty percent." Replying to his God with newfound calm, Seto's uncharacteristic frown was replaced by his usual warm smile. "It's difficult to say for certain however we estimate that the first fifty percent are something like a foundation. After that barrier is breached, the remaining half could come in as little as a single day."

"Is the spatial anomaly that is spitting out the new continent the main outlet?" Smiling slyly as she played with her crescent moon earrings, Arlene almost seemed too calm. She was always like that, an enigma that could never be understood. Combine that with Luslec's clear bias toward her and it made sense why White and Trantus found it hard to like her.

"There are surely others but this is the only one large enough to be seen." Nodding his head calmly, Imort didn't bother reacting to White's little scoff. The Fifth Slayer may be good at killing but he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

White had been a Slayer for the past three years. In that time, he had tried to murder Luslec numerous times with the same result each time. His determination was admirable and his growth enviable but madness was still madness even when respectable.

"Then it should be easy enough, right?" Sending the First Slayer a cheeky grin, Arlene relished the subtle anger from the other Slayers. Loyalty wasn't exactly a concept among the Slayers, they were often moving due to a shared goal more than any form of bond, but when it came to Luslec that wasn't quite the case. Even White was loyal to some degree.

It was obvious if you spent even a moment thinking about it really. The Slayers worked together for one goal, a goal that only Luslec could grant them. In return, they would follow his commands and accomplish his goals. That was the price for divinity.

Glancing at her for a moment those black eyes were eerily familiar, a relic of a bygone past, but she could see the familiar affection hidden beneath the surface. She hadn't gotten so old as to forget the gaze of her partner even if it had become more 'human' as of late.

A ripple passed through the space around them, the world bending and twisting as reality itself bent to his whims. In the blink of an eye, they stood in front of a massive maelstrom of unadulterated power.

It stood taller than any mountain and wider than even a dozen fully grown dragons, a maelstrom of twisted space that forcefully bridged together two parallel universes. It radiated such intense power that even the Slayers felt small before it, weak and vulnerable like a child standing before a dragon. They who stood at the top of the world were so far away from the power of divinity.

Stepping forward, the maelstrom of distorted reality fought against the approaching deity to no avail. Extending a single finger toward the twisted space, a sliver of divinity so potent the newly formed continent quaked shot from his digit.

In an instant, the world lost its color as even the breeze froze in place. Time itself had frozen, the warped space struggling against the hold of time itself without result. If the Slayers weren't exempted from the temporal control, they would've been in the same position, frozen as though they were merely lifelike statues.

"You have two weeks. Restrain it." Glancing back at Seto and Imort the truth behind his words was clear. Despite how effortless Luslec had made it seem, despite how firmly the spatial anomaly had been sealed away, it wasn't enough.

Two weeks. That was all the time they had.

****

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.

I feel like it should go without saying but the fact that Wulin can't stop the spatial anomaly that is affecting the entire world isn't in any way an indication that he is weak. He can use the power of a third class god for ten minutes and yet he managed to stop a spatial anomaly that can bridge together universes for two weeks which I would say is pretty impressive.
