Douluo Dalu 3 | Divine Destruction

Chapter 12: Clash of Monsters

Standing across from one another the two of them took in each other's features. Both seemed casual at first glance yet upon closer examination the opposite was true. Both were tense, prepared to begin at a moment's notice.

'Danger is estimated to be less than 7%.' Tang Wulin noticed, roughly estimating from vague factors. It was an estimation meant to be a baseline rather than a final all inclusive conclusion. In comparison, the danger level of his classmates is less than 0%.

"Begin!" Wu Zhangkong commanded them both, preemptively covering a large area around them in a shield of his soul power much thicker than he used to block the winds from the prior day.

Once again the battle began with the earth shattering, debris and dust launching in the air as though a bomb had gone off. In front of his opponent with his fist shooting forward Tang Wulin noticed his opponent's eyes widen, a response generally associated with surprise, before she vanished in a flurry of silver sparkles.

'Space element. Danger increased to 36%.' Tang Wulin determined instantly. A space element user was dangerous for their versatility rather than their direct offensive power in most cases. He would have to be aware of all directions as she could appear anywhere.

Taking note of her position in an instant using his spiritual power he turned around and dashed forward, the earth shattering beneath his feet once again. Suddenly in front of him, the dust was cut horizontally, two blades of wind cutting toward him.

'Wind element. Danger increased to 42%.' Tang Wulin noted, noting the look of surprise on his teacher's face. Ignoring the wind blades he continued to charge, the wind blades tearing his clothing but not even scratching his durable skin even without his scales.

Appearing in front of his opponent once again a wall of earth appeared in front of him, water appearing under his feet before freezing in an attempt to slow him down. Ignoring the ice around his feet Tang Wulin turned around, forging attacking the earth wall in favor of finding her next location.

'Earth and Water elements. Danger increased to 53%.' Wulin observed, searching the area with his spiritual power. Location her Tang Wulin changed his attack plan. Bringing his foot back Tang Wulin kicked his foot deep into earth sending shrapnel of earth flying at his opponent.

Once more his opponent teleported away, the earthen bullets creating ripples in the barrier Wu Zhangkong had created in anticipation of the thing he had just done. If he hadn't made a barrier, the school would have been destroyed once again.

Turning around to face his opponent once more Tang Wulin wasn't met by his opponent but rather by an icicle propelled faster by the wind element. Ignoring the attack Wulin continued searching for his opponent, no longer able to find her using his spiritual power.

'She can merge elements. Danger increased to 61%' Wulin determined. His opponent hadn't just enhanced her attack with wind, she transmitted it to another location using her space element.

Searching his surroundings using his eyes Tang Wulin could not find his opponent, even the tugging feeling was momentarily removed. Closing his eyes he ignored the attacks of various elements and attempted to use his other senses to find her.

'There.' He declared to himself. Practically teleporting forward, his fist mere inches away from striking her and ending the battle once and for all. Yet his fist stopped in place for a mere instant, space itself wrapping around him.

He broke free of it nearly instantly however in that mere second she vanished, once more teleporting away and in her place was a mix of the four elements wind, earth, water, and fire expanding ominously.

A large explosion erupted from the explosion of four elements that was only contained by the barrier of their teacher, cracks appearing in its light blue body before vanishing as more energy was pushed into it.

'She can merge four of the basic elements. Danger increased to 84%.' Tang Wulin determined, the dust quickly fading revealing his bare upper body which was crimson and covered in dirt and grime but otherwise unharmed.

"You're a tough one. It seems like this will drag on, why don't we admit to a draw?" Gu Yuena questioned him, swallowing her pride without hesitation. Her voice was filled with approval and respect, a blessing given to very few.

Ignoring her offer Tang Wulin charged forward, finding her location using her voice despite her using the wind and space elements to diffuse it from various directions. For a normal person, it would be close to impossible to tell the difference but his senses were enhanced to the peak of mortal limits, it was hardly a challenge.

Punching the air toward her once he was close enough she was sent flying backward, her untouched body being 'soiled' for the first time in quite some time. Using the wind element she reorganized herself mid air however, Tang Wulin once more appeared beside her, his leg mid flight toward her abdomen.

Coming into contact with her body, his leg tore through her completely spreading blood and organs all throughout the air however he ignored it all, once more searching for her true location.

'Light element. Danger increased to 89%.' Tang Wulin distinguished, using all his senses to discover her location. She was using light to hide her body, wind to hide her scent and sounds, and earth to remove her traces. She was nigh impossible to find.

From an outsider's view, she was winning. She had repeatedly made contact with him while he had only struck her once, barely at that. However, in terms of damage taken and energy reserves, he was in much better shape.

If Tang Wulin wished to win the fight he would simply forgo offensive and focus all his attention on defense however that was not what was required of him. He was required to 'battle' not to 'win'. His task was to battle until the end.

'Yet… why do I want to win?' Tang Wulin questioned himself, his lips faintly curled upwards.
