Douluo: Becoming a God by Relying on my Enemies

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: What Exactly Are Shrek Academy’s Strengths?

Yun Feng clearly understood what Flender wanted to discuss but chose not to answer directly.

"Use your eyes and see for yourself."

"You know that's not what I'm asking," Flender replied, exasperated.

Yun Feng smiled faintly.

"Dean, isn't it a bit early to talk about this? I've only just joined the academy. You can't expect me to have any strong loyalty yet. Besides, even if I said I did, you wouldn't believe me, would you?"

Flender opened his mouth as if to respond but fell silent. Yun Feng's words rang true, though for some reason, they irked him.

Yun Feng had joined Shrek Academy, yet his attitude remained indifferent, even to the point of considering leaving earlier. Flender couldn't help but feel annoyed but had no grounds to argue further. His irritation toward Yun Feng only deepened.

"Fine. These things can't be forced. You'll come to appreciate the academy in time."

"Maybe," Yun Feng replied nonchalantly.

Seeing no point in continuing the conversation, Flender turned to the rest of the group.

"There's still some time left. Follow me."

Leading the six students, Flender entered a modest teahouse on the street. They all sat around a round table, and Flender ordered seven cups of the cheapest tea.

Xiao Wu frowned at the tea, which was full of floating leaves.

"Dean, we're not having our first class here, are we?"

Yun Feng glanced at the tea and immediately called out to the server, "Bring us three cups of your finest tea."

Flender, Ma Hongjun, Tang San, and Dai Mubai exchanged incredulous glances, especially Tang San, who was clearly puzzled. He hadn't done anything to offend Yun Feng—so why the favoritism?

Noticing Tang San's confusion, Yun Feng feigned a moment of realization and added, "Make that four cups."

"Right away!" the server replied.

Tang San's expression softened slightly, though his forced smile betrayed mixed emotions.

When the tea arrived, Flender reached out for a cup but stopped when Yun Feng personally handed the better tea to Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Tang San, keeping one for himself.

Flender hesitated briefly, then shamelessly picked up his own cheap tea and took a sip. The taste was predictably unpleasant.

"Your classroom is over there," he said, gesturing outside.

Following his direction, Yun Feng saw a massive building not far from the teahouse. It stood nearly a hundred meters tall, its sheer size making it imposing even at night. Faint lights flickered from within.

Dai Mubai's expression shifted, and he muttered, "Dean, you're taking them there on their first day?"

Flender's tone was calm but firm.

"Remember, you're all monsters, not ordinary people. And as monsters, you'll train like monsters."

He paused, letting his words sink in before continuing.

"Each of you has a unique martial soul and your own cultivation methods. What the academy teaches is how to better use your martial souls, acquire superior soul rings, and gain practical combat experience. We'll help you unlock your potential."

"Beyond that, you'll learn about martial souls, the broader soul master community, and the state of the continent."

"Of all these lessons, the most crucial is real-world combat experience. In battle, it's not just strength that matters but adaptability and quick thinking. The outcome of a fight between evenly matched opponents often hinges on experience."

"That's why your first class is combat training. And that building over there—that's your classroom."

Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun exchanged uneasy glances. While Ma Hongjun stayed silent, Dai Mubai's eyes betrayed his reluctance.

Tang San suddenly asked, "Dean, this so-called 'monster training method' sounds like something any other academy could do. Teaching knowledge, arranging battles… If I'm not mistaken, that building is the Great Spirit Arena. Anyone can fight there. So what exactly is Shrek Academy's advantage?"

Yun Feng was surprised. He hadn't expected Tang San to raise such a direct question.

Unbeknownst to Yun Feng, Tang San harbored suspicions that Flender might be connected to his mysterious ailments, prompting his blunt inquiry.

Flender was momentarily taken aback.

What advantages did Shrek Academy have? He knew all too well that aside from its relatively numerous teachers, the academy offered little else.

In truth, even the "numerous teachers" claim was dubious, as it included local villagers nominally listed as staff. The actual teaching faculty was sparse, and most were notoriously lazy.

Student success depended entirely on their own effort and comprehension.

As for resources? Apart from hunting soul beasts, there were none to speak of.

Flender couldn't deny the harsh reality. Tang San's question made him silently curse Grandmaster for not properly briefing Tang San about Shrek Academy's situation.

Awkwardly, Flender finally responded, "Of course, there are advantages. Do other academies have a soul saint personally guiding their students? Our soul power levels are the foundation of Shrek Academy's strength."

While not the strongest argument, it was enough to salvage the conversation.

However, the exchange made Flender realize something crucial: the newly enrolled students, though incredibly talented, were also highly rebellious.

Their defiance had nearly driven him to a breakdown on the very first day. Who knew what other challenges lay ahead?

Tang San, sensing the tension, chose not to push further.

But just as the situation seemed to settle, Xiao Wu voiced her own question.

"Dean, isn't being a soul master supposed to be a prestigious profession? Why are there places like the Great Spirit Arena? Forcing soul masters to perform like circus animals—what's the point of that?"

Thankfully, Xiao Wu's query was more reasonable, and Flender relaxed slightly.

"You're mistaken," he replied. "I don't like the Great Spirit Arena either, but I can't deny its importance. It's a place where soul masters can truly showcase their value."

"The Great Spirit Arena isn't just a simple battleground. It's an independent organization with its own intricate system, and it's essentially a powerful entity in its own right. Established by the most renowned soul master factions on the continent, it's a financial juggernaut."

"Soul masters who achieve fame in the arena become stars within their nations, gaining immense wealth and prestige."

"Moreover, the arena offers a level of fairness unmatched elsewhere. Here, ev

en if you kill the heir of a powerful clan, you won't face retaliation. That's the fairness it provides."
