Denizens of the Labyrinth

Book 2 Chapter Ten; Guard and Keep me

Sadé was focused ahead. She was standing atop a carriage directing the rider to keep going as they were being chased.

“Keep riding, do not worry about anything but riding!” she shouted over the whinnying of the horses and the crack of the whip.

She looked back and just like her Katie was atop another carriage, she was holding on with chains from one of her wrists and she was using the other chain in her other hand to whip the beasts attacking the carriage.

Foxfire!!

Sadé yelled and rather than using a torrent of blue flame, she changed it and made her Mana form smaller orbs of fire that exploded when Mana that was not her own, neared it. She watched as they floated dazedly around her carriage.

The task from the system was to help the carriage get from one town to another and they had been mobbed by monsters from the start. Even now, they were rushing with the support of all the party, and it was becoming overwhelming.

“Watch out!” Bannerman growled as he bounded beside her carriage.

She looked up and leaping up to attack her was a single man.

Thunderfire

She shouted and the man was struck but he deflected it off his sword and then struck her, she dipped but the sword slashed her arm, chest and back. It was deep and the system sung of warning.

DANGER!

BLEEDING IN EFFECT

HEALTH 25% DOWN!

She kissed her teeth. One attack and half her health had been taken. The man landed pass the carriage, but Bannerman assaulted him, drawing his attention. She heard it before she saw them, dodging left and then right, two arrows flew past her.

An archer was running towards the carriage and her next arrow was aimed at the horses. She leapt off the carriage top and landed by the woman, the archer was already prepared. She fired three arrows, before even having to go into her quiver again. the first one skimmed Sadé. The second she deflected and the third she cut through. But the time it took her to react, the archer was already creating distance to pick her target again.

Thunderfire!

Sadé yelled, sending the weird merging of flame and thunder. It struck the archer and she rocked with the thunder burning through her body. She screamed and Sadé removed her head before she could scream again.

“No!” someone shouted and looking up she saw it was the swordsman from before, he had taken his eye off of Bannerman, who roared. His wolf man form hot with bloodlust. He caught the hand with the sword, breaking the wrist. He bit down into the throat of the man and roared at his win.

“Pup let us go! Sadé!” Katie called out, she was atop the second carriage, the first had kept going and as Katie rushed past, she swung her chain out for Sadé to catch. She caught it deftly, maybe it was her dexterity, or maybe it was her elf blood flexibility. She swung from the chain and using the momentum she flipped herself onto the roof of the first carriage again.

After that they rode along with few ambushes.

When the crown of thunder is worn Mana will deplete 10% for every strike. All attacks will be wreathed in thunder and lightning. Burn affliction possible.

She grinned at that, she had gained her third skill, it made sense, she had a fire and thunder skill, then a fire skill. Now a thunder one.

“You were reckless.” Baek told her, stepping from the carriage and helping down a frail looking woman who had also been seated in the carriage.

“I did what was needed if I did not. They would have attacked the carriage.” She pointed out and he shook his head.

“Your life is just as important as the task, plus I am here. they would not have been able to do anything.” He prompted and she lowered her defiance a little.

“I know why you are rushing, but I promise you. It will not be at the death of you, that we will meet up with him again. you need to stop.” He scolded her, she nodded. Knowing he was right and that she was indeed being reckless, she needed to be more cautious.

“I got a new skill.” She said, changing the subject.

“Show me later, we need to get these carriages away and then we can move on.” Baek pointed out, just as Katie, Bannerman and Patton who had been riding in the third and final carriage appeared.

They all entered the guild hall, to complete the task they had been given and await the rewards from both system and guild.

She sighed and looked up at the sky.

Where are you, Jazmel. She wondered.
