Denizens of the Labyrinth

Book 2 Chapter Nine; the Black Dragon

He was tired, he had been tired for a long time and yet nothing seemed to help him recover.

He had been battling in the labyrinth for months, almost a year now since he had returned home. But he could not bring himself to return to those halls. He felt more dread there than even when he was facing down a beast. Even now, while he fought, he felt nothing, not fear. Not even worry. Just fatigue, he was exhausted and morose with it.

DING!

THE HUNDREDTH FLOOR HAS BEEN OVERCOME

XIAN FEI IS THE FIRST TO PASS THE HUNDREDTH FLOOR!

WELCOME THE FIRST MONARCH!

The system chimed in his mind, and he sighed as something twinkled in his chest. What was a monarch, he wondered but killed the beast he was playing with, with a quick strike with his katana.

“Merrick.” He said and a young man appeared beside him, from the shadows.

“My king.” He bowed low.

“Find out what Xian Fei has done.” The man disappeared back into the shadows. He headed for the gate and released his pressure around him, scaring away all beasts.

“We return home to the kingdom. After that, we will head to the hundredth floor. We will also overcome it, prepare yourselves.” He told his followers, retainers, and believers of his cause.
