Chapter 20: Mini vacation and nth metal

"She was a woman with the gift of seduction. She even tried to seduce me into not taking her life," Teleute remarked as we looked at the hieroglyph of Cleopatra's story.

A few days ago, after confirming the serum had no side effects, I decided to visit Hawkman at the Egyptian Pyramids. I wanted to enjoy a little mini vacation with Teleute.

That's why we are exploring the pyramids before I 'borrow' some of Hawkman's nth metal.

"Would you like to go somewhere else?" I asked Teleute. She had already met all the figures on the wall; reading about them again could be boring when she met them personally.

"I know most of them, but I haven't met them all, darling, I didn't want to take Anubis' job from him," Teleute replied as a small whirlpool of sand formed and a black hound appeared.

[Anubis]

"You summoned me, mistress," Anubis said, bowing his head respectfully.

"I only mentioned your name, Anubis. I didn't summon you," Teleute said, gently stroking Anubis' head. "I appreciate your hard work, Anubis. I don't want to waste your time."

"Please, mistress, you could never waste my time or anyone else's."

His words ring true. My beloved wife could never waste anyone's time. If anything, they should be blessed to be in the same existence as her.

"You are a good boy, Anubis, but you know I don't like things like flattery. Return to your duties; you're interrupting my time with my beloved," Teleute said, and Anubis finally acknowledged me.

"Master," Anubis nodded to me before turning to sand and vanishing.

"We've been here for hours, my love. Let's go grab a bite," I suggested, taking Teleute's hand.

Then we found a restaurant that served ancient Egyptian cuisine with a modern touch, and since my wife doesn't like crowded places, I bought and closed the entire restaurant.

"I like the food of this era more. It has more seasoning, and the aroma is richer than in the Middle Ages or the future, where it's all about nutrition without any taste," Teleute said, enjoying her meal while I simply watched her.

"You really shouldn't skip meals, darling. You're still growing," Teleute remarked as she offered me a spoonful of her dish.

"Unless it comes from your hand, food tastes like poison," I said, kissing her hand.

"You are always flattering me, darling," Teleute said, her cheeks adorning with a slight blush.

"You deserve it and more. I'm sorry that this is all I could give you," I said, wrapping my arms around her.

"You are everything I need, my love," Teleute said, hugging me back.

Breaking the embrace, I gently lifted her and placed her on my lap.

"I've never said this before, but with you here, I feel happy, my love. I truly do. I have you as my wife. I'm rich and free, and I'm going to be a badass anti-hero. My life is pretty much perfect. Before you, my life was messed up. I was abandoned by my parents, sold by the nuns when I was a mere child, and then trained until I puked blood just to kill. Every mission was a suicide mission because if I failed at killing, I would be killed. No friends, no lover, and no one who cared. Even the women in my life either wanted something from me or were forced to be with me. And a life like that ends in betrayal," I said as I rested my head on her bosom.

"You are with me right now. Don't think about your past," Teleute said as she stroked my face. "I'm happy too, darling. You don't have to be so hard on yourself."

"That's why I consider my death a blessing because it led me to you. You are kind, loving, fun, supportive, and beautiful; you love and care for me unconditionally," I said as I kissed her softly. "You are perfect in every way, my love."

"I want to give you something." I took a black box with an ankh symbol and opened it. Inside was a black ring with an entire galaxy as a gem. It wasn't what I had intended, as my original plan was to put an entire universe on the gem.

But if I were to put the entire universe inside the gem now, it might bring some trouble for me. I'll do it later when I'm prepared enough.

It took me two years to find a galaxy and shrink it down to fit on the gem. I hope it at least makes her a little happy.

"I know this ring may not be worthy of you, but I hope you like it."

"It's beautiful, darling. Thank you," Teleute said with a happy smile.

And that smile was all I needed; everything I do is just to see that beautiful smile on her face.

She reached for the box, but I held her hand and kissed it.

"Let me do this, my love," I said, placing her delicate hand in mine. I picked up the ring and carefully slid it onto her finger, treating her like a fragile porcelain doll.

"Dear, you know that you don't have to give me anything. Just being with you makes me happy," she said, stroking my cheek as I leaned into her touch.

"You know, I struggle to express my love with words, so I hope these gifts show how I feel. I'll give you anything you want, my love. Anything you want, just say the word."

"I'm happy with our life, beloved. I don't need those fancy gifts, only you."

Just when I thought it was impossible, she just can't stop making me fall in love with her more and more.

After that, we enjoyed each other's company before we explored different tourist spots while she shared some of her stories.

[3 days later, at night.]

After having a 3-day vacation with Teleute, I decided to do what I came here to do.

I activated my stealth suit and quietly entered Carter Hall's hotel room, aka Hawkman. I searched the room but couldn't find any armor or weapons.

Standing by Hawkman's bedside, I looked at him as he slept soundly. Before entering his room, I released sleeping gas through the vent inside his hotel room. However, it wasn't enough.

[Hawkman]

After a while, instead of falling deeper into sleep, his eyes shot open. Quickly, I leaped into the air and grabbed the ceiling. As he got up and scanned the room, before he could look up, I let go of my grip and fell behind him.

I put him in a chokehold while I locked his legs with mine to prevent him from kicking.

"Sun is getting really low, go to sleep you damn overgrown chicken, don't make me break your neck."

I created an oxygen mask out of my suit and put it on Hawkman to make him sleep by directly releasing sleeping gas inside his mouth and nose. It worked; he gradually stopped struggling and went limp.

I held his neck as a needle extended from my palm to draw his blood.

"Analyze his blood, Eden." In less than a second, Eden processed the blood and sent me the results. Looking at the results, I finally found out where he hid the nth metal, inside his blood.

I lifted him up and flew to the Batwing that Teleute and I had arrived in.

Once inside the Batwing, I laid him down on the operating table.

"Begin extracting the nth metal from his body, Eden."

{As you wish, sir}

A barrier formed around the operating table, and mechanical arms with different tools emerged from the side of the table.

"Now that I have you, darling, I understand his suffering more thoroughly." Teleute said, looking Hawkman with pity."What a poor man, forever doomed, destined to suffer and never to be fully reunited with his soulmate; every time they bond, they die."

While she felt sorry for Hawkman, her love for me outweighed her kindness, so she didn't stop me, just as she didn't intervene when I brought Selina in. It wasn't out of pity; I saw Selina as an investment. She understood my intentions even before I spoke, but Teleute, being the bundle of kindness and joy that she is, just told me not to break Selina's heart.

"Don't make him suffer too much, dear," Teleute said, holding my hand, being the supportive wife she said she would be when I first met her.

After some time, Eden finished extracting most of the nth metal from Hawkman's blood, not all of it, and I took him back to his hotel room.

Then we returned to Gotham, where I began another headache of a project: combining promethium and nth metal to create a smart liquid metal, then injecting it into my bones and organs.

[Meanwhile]

[Selina POV]

I took the chance while Bruce was away to get into the elevator and hit the button for the third floor.

{Access denied. Unauthorized personnel}

"Fuck!" Hearing the familiar sound, I cursed and kicked the elevator's door in frustration. I tried to reach other floors, but it always failed. The elevator only went to the second floor. I tried to use the stairs to get to the third floor, but every time I stepped on the stair that led to the third layer, I passed out and woke up back on the first floor. Even with Alfred with me, I couldn't get to the lower levels; I just kept passing out and ending up back where I started.

Getting out of the elevator, I lay on the Batcomputer's keyboard.

Even after all those years, Bruce still doesn't trust me. Yet he trusts Zatanna, since she has access to the third, her own, and fourth layers with Alfred by her side. I mean, I kind of get it since they are childhood friends, but she doesn't spend as much time with him as I do. I'm with Bruce almost every day, talking and training with him, even though he rarely talks to me unless I talk to him first.

Sometimes I think Bruce doesn't like me, but then I remember all of the things he has done for me. He saved me and Maggie from the streets, gave us a home to sleep in, and warm meals to eat, and helped us with school. He even gives us money to spend. It's really confusing. If he doesn't like me, why is he doing all of those things for me?

I'm doing my best to be useful to him. I train every day, both my body and mind, in case he ever needs something from me. I'm scared that if he were to ask me something and I couldn't do it, he would abandon me.

It's cold. This cave is cold without Bruce. I hope he returns soon. I miss him.
