Chapter 103: Chapter 103 Batman Friendly Reminder!
At that moment, Coulson suspicions about Batman true identity deepened.
Anton?
No!
Anton Jameson was very likely just a smokescreen created by Batman.
Half-true and half-false information made it impossible to discern the reality.
Even now, if Anton were to remove the Batman armor and stand directly in front of Coulson, he would still doubt whether someone had undergone plastic surgery to impersonate Anton and deceive his eyes.
Otherwise, why would Batman show up with Green Arrow in tow?
Was it a show of force?
It was worth noting that when they first suspected Anton was Batman, they had combed through every detail of Anton life countless times.
Anton life before taking over the Daily Bugle and producing the movie Batman Begins was completely at odds with S.H.I.E.L.D. profiler analysis of Batman.
In other words, according to the experts, Anton and Batman were two entirely different people.
If not for the undeniable connections between Anton and Batman, S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't have linked Anton to Batman at all.
Now, Batman had casually revealed top-secret information from S.H.I.E.L.D.
The source of his intel was unknown!
Anton didn't seem like someone who would have access to such classified information.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had thoroughly investigated Anton, unearthing every aspect of his interpersonal relationships to the point of what could only be described as "digging three feet deep."
Coulson couldn't imagine how Anton could have obtained this intelligence.
The Daily Bugle?
If the Daily Bugle had such power, it would have long surpassed Stark Industries and Oscorp, and J. Jonah Jameson wouldn't just be a wealthy man—he'd be the world top media mogul.
So, could it be that Anton was indeed a pawn or spokesperson pushed forward by Batman?
Coulson expression darkened, his mind racing with thoughts, yet he remained hesitant to draw any conclusions.
Standing beside him, Natasha Romanoff was equally shocked to see Coulson in this state.
Coulson was the most seasoned agent in S.H.I.E.L.D., second only to Director Nick Fury himself.
Having worked closely with Fury for years, Coulson had learned much from him and, in some ways, had even surpassed him—especially in terms of charisma.
Many of S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran agents held Coulson in high regard, which spoke volumes about his capabilities.
Yet now, even Coulson couldn't control his emotions, his face betraying his inner turmoil. It was a testament to the shock he was experiencing.
"Threats from space, from the universe…"
Natasha silently repeated the words, finding them hard to believe.
Could they actually be true?
Was Earth really facing a threat from beyond the stars?
She recalled DC Studios' recently released movie, Cyborg.
In the film, there was a significant emphasis on extraterrestrial threats, including a Mother Box from Apokolips and a name…
Darkseid.
"Could this be the threat they're talking about?"
Natasha felt completely lost but kept her thoughts to herself, standing quietly and observing the exchange between the two men.
"I understand," Coulson finally said, regaining his composure. He was wise enough not to ask Batman about his sources. Instead, he replied seriously, "I respect your decision."
To Coulson, Batman had positioned himself in a very unusual role.
And this kind of role often came with many dangers.
Nick Fury was in a similar position.
Hearing this, Anton was slightly surprised.
"I'm starting to like you more and more, Coulson. If you ever decide to quit, feel free to come find me. My doors will always be open to you."
Anton nodded, not forgetting to subtly poach talent on his way out.
"And you, Black Widow," he said, pausing as his gaze shifted to Natasha beside Coulson.
Natasha heart skipped a beat as she abruptly raised her head to look at Batman.
At that moment, she was certain that he already knew her true identity.
In other words, if her identity was no secret to Batman, could it still be a secret to Anton?
Recalling her interactions with Anton over the past few days, a sense of confusion suddenly washed over her.
Coulson, however, wasn't the least bit surprised by the remark.
If Batman could know all the intricate details about the alien invasion of the 1990s, Black Widow identity was hardly a challenge.
"Oh, one more thing," Anton said before leaving. Out of respect for Coulson tact, he offered him a piece of friendly advice.
"Go back and tell Nick Fury that it not that I dislike S.H.I.E.L.D., but that I think you should clean your house before inviting guests over."
With that, he pushed the door open, left the house, and disappeared into the darkness.
Coulson and Natasha stood in silence, watching him leave before moving to the doorway. There, they found the ground in the yard littered with arrows.
Green Arrow, his back to them, followed Batman into the shadows, soon vanishing without a trace.
Hawkeye lay on the ground, panting heavily, his face bruised and battered, with a dazed look in his eyes.
Clearly, he hadn't fared well against Green Arrow.
"Barton," Natasha said, pulling herself out of her tangled emotions. She walked over to help Hawkeye up with a smile. "Looks like you got beaten up again."
"He didn't walk away unscathed either," Hawkeye retorted stubbornly.
The fight between him and Green Arrow hadn't produced a definitive winner, but if he were honest, he hadn't managed to defeat Green Arrow.
Throughout the fight, Green Arrow maintained the upper hand.
Even by the time Batman emerged from the house, Hawkeye hadn't managed to turn the tide.
While it could be dismissed as a mere sparring match, Hawkeye knew deep down that in a fight to the death, he'd have no guarantee of victory against Green Arrow.
"Damn it!" Hawkeye muttered, frustration burning within him.
It was one thing to lose to Batman, but now even Batman "subordinate" had bested him.
"When I get back, I'm doubling down on training!" Hawkeye resolved.
Next time he encountered Batman and Green Arrow, he vowed to make them see him in a new light.
Meanwhile, Coulson stood in front of the house, silently observing Hawkeye and Natasha. He was deep in thought, replaying Batman parting words.
It not that I dislike S.H.I.E.L.D., but you should clean your house before inviting guests over.
His expression darkened as his thoughts turned to Batman possible sources of information.
A mole?
S.H.I.E.L.D. had a mole!
There was no doubt in Coulson mind that this was the hidden meaning behind Batman words.
The conclusion was both startling and deeply unsettling.
Within S.H.I.E.L.D., only a handful of people were privy to the details of the alien invasion in the 1990s. Each of them held significant authority and influence.
If Batman claim was accurate, and there truly was a mole among these individuals, it would be nothing short of catastrophic.
Batman words likely weren't a bluff.
After all, he had explicitly disclosed the information to Coulson.
"This is terrifying," Coulson muttered, his head pounding as he considered the ramifications. The fallout could trigger an unprecedented crisis within S.H.I.E.L.D.
Determined, Coulson decided to head back to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in Washington that very night for an urgent face-to-face discussion with Director Nick Fury.
