Chapter 102: Chapter 102 Coulson in Shock!
Hawkeye, after performing a backflip, knelt on one knee, looking up at Batman standing before him, as well as the man dressed in green combat gear with a bow in hand who had emerged from behind him.
From this man, Hawkeye could sense a kindred spirit.
"...Your opponent is me!"
The man in green combat gear spoke, then stepped forward calmly, passing by Batman and fixing Hawkeye with a cold stare.
"Who is he?"
Behind Hawkeye, Natasha and Coulson exchanged a glance, both visibly startled.
"Who are you?"
Hawkeye asked in a cold tone, his voice steady.
"Green Arrow."
The man before him replied evenly.
"Wait a minute, this guy looks familiar!"
Natasha, having worked at DC Studios for a while, connected the green-clad, bow-wielding man in front of her to one of the company recently promoted virtual superheroes.
"Green Arrow!"
Hearing the stranger answer, Natasha was stunned. "He Green Arrow!"
"Green Arrow?"
Coulson, unfamiliar with comics and novels, found the name entirely new and confirmed he had never heard of it.
"Who Green Arrow?"
"Oliver Queen," Natasha explained, suppressing her shock. "In the story, he a wealthy heir stranded on a deserted island who, after acquiring survival skills, returns to his hometown as a superhero. You can think of him as a low-budget version of Batman."
"Sounds a bit similar."
Coulson thought back to the time he'd watched Batman Begins to better understand Batman, and now he had a faint grasp of this newly appeared Green Arrow.
"So, not only is Batman real, but even Green Arrow… isn't just a fictional character?"
Coulson was deeply shocked, his brow furrowing as he looked at Green Arrow. "What his real identity? Batman is one thing, but Green Arrow… DC Studios seems to be hiding a lot of secrets. What exactly is Anton up to?"
Muttering to himself, Coulson expression turned grave.
He had initially believed that, despite Anton mysterious behavior, he had managed to peel back half of Anton mask.
Now it seemed Anton was still deeply concealed.
Perhaps what he had uncovered was nothing more than a sliver of what Anton had deliberately shown.
As he reflected, Coulson even began to question whether Anton might actually be Batman.
Just as Anton had speculated earlier, while S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't have definitive proof tying Anton to Batman, the accumulation of information over time had narrowed their suspicions down to Anton.
However, just when they were about to act on their assumptions, another complication arose.
Out of nowhere, another supposed fictional superhero appeared.
Green Arrow!
Did these people think this was all some elaborate role-playing game?
The more they uncovered, the more chaotic it became!
Coulson resolved to conduct a thorough investigation of Anton DC Studios after tonight.
"Green Arrow?"
Hawkeye, hearing the man response, paid no attention to the conversation happening behind him between his colleagues.
His focus was razor-sharp. The arrival of Green Arrow brought with it an immense sense of pressure.
This feeling was completely different from the one Batman evoked.
Batman and he were fundamentally different.
But Green Arrow felt like a peer.
And peers were the best for determining superiority.
The atmosphere grew tense, as though the air itself carried a spark of gunpowder. Their gazes met, and it seemed as though sparks of electricity were crackling in the space between them, ready to ignite a fight.
Hawkeye reached behind him for his bow, moving swiftly into a combat stance.
"Let leave the battlefield to them."
Batman, unfazed by the mounting tension, ignored the electrified atmosphere entirely.
He walked past Hawkeye without sparing him a glance, heading toward Coulson and Natasha.
"We need to have a serious talk, Coulson."
Anton gaze lingered on Natasha for an extra second before landing on Coulson.
"Come in," Coulson said, opening the door to welcome Batman.
Natasha glanced at Hawkeye, showing no particular concern, and followed the two inside.
The battle between Hawkeye and Green Arrow was already set in motion.
Hawkeye frustration with Batman and Batman utter disregard for him left him no choice but to vent his anger on the Green Arrow before him.
If I can't beat Batman, surely I can beat you!
Hawkeye, though reluctant to admit it, had to concede that there was indeed a gap in strength between himself and Batman.
But just as he was about to challenge Batman again, Green Arrow had stepped forward, seemingly under Batman command, to block his path.
A subordinate can't possibly be stronger than the boss!
If I can't even beat you, I might as well go home and take care of the kids!
Hawkeye thoughts raced as he pulled an arrow from his quiver and aimed it at Green Arrow.
Coincidentally, Green Arrow mirrored his movements.
Whoosh!
Both released their arrows simultaneously.
The sharp sound of the arrows slicing through the air echoed as they sped toward each other.
Yet, under the threat of these arrows, neither flinched nor dodged. They walked directly toward one another.
As they moved, both slightly tilted their heads to dodge the incoming arrows, their actions perfectly synchronized. They each drew another arrow from their quivers, took aim, and fired again.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Arrow after arrow passed just inches from their faces.
Without hesitation, both continued advancing until their combat reached the point where they were face-to-face.
Bang!
Finally, the shooting stopped, and the fight turned into hand-to-hand combat.
Meanwhile, inside the house—
Batman, Coulson, and Natasha had begun their conversation in the living room.
"I'll be straightforward," Anton said firmly, his tone leaving no room for misinterpretation. "I'm not interested in your security agency. Whatever plans you have, don't count on me."
"Technically, we go by the acronym S.H.I.E.L.D.," Coulson replied with a polite smile. "Our director is assembling a superhero team, and we'd like to invite you to lead it. Regardless of your initial stance, I hope you'll at least consider it."
"A superhero team?"
Anton expression didn't change as he revealed a major secret.
"In fact, I've already joined another team. It wouldn't be feasible for me to join another superhero group."
"What?"
Coulson was visibly shocked, his composure slipping as his expression shifted. "May I ask, when did this happen?"
"Not long ago," Anton answered calmly.
"Would you mind sharing a bit more?" Coulson asked hesitantly. "For instance, the purpose of this superhero team you've joined?"
"We share the same goal: to address critical threats," Anton replied, his tone indifferent. "Just like what you're concerned about… threats from other planets, from outer space."
As soon as Anton uttered these words, Coulson pupils contracted, and he stared at Batman in disbelief.
These were words he had only ever heard from Nick Fury.
The origins of this concern dated back to a massive crisis in the 1990s—a matter classified as one of S.H.I.E.L.D. highest secrets. Within the agency, only a select few operatives had clearance to access the details.
As someone who had been partially involved in that event, Coulson was well-informed, especially about the implied agreement between the current director and the extraordinary individual who had resolved the crisis.
Yet, Coulson couldn't fathom how Batman could also know about this matter.
How was it possible?
This information was top secret, known to perhaps ten people within S.H.I.E.L.D.
And of those who fully understood it, the number dwindled to a handful.
Who exactly was Batman?
Where was he getting his intel?
